My wife and myself are regular visitors to the hotel and make a special point of returning every May without fail. It hardly needs to be said that we think everything about the hotel, and the location, are great.

The Hotel …
The Falesia is an ideal for a quiet, relaxing and stress-free holiday for adults. Visitors tend to be retired couples and the occasional honeymoon couple. As a Thomson Gold hotel children are not catered for which contributes to the quiet and relaxing atmosphere. All the rooms have free Internet connection, full air conditioning, television and a private balcony. In standard rooms there is a safe for valuables and a fridge that may be used but only at an extra charge. In Superior rooms or junior suites the safe is included in the room price but the fridge is still extra and, in my opinion, too expensive to be worthwhile. The hotel grounds include the usual pool with the organised games but the lawned garden with fishponds is always a quiet alternative in which to relax.
The restaurant is all self-service with a wide variety of dishes to satisfy all tastes. There are frequent “themed” evenings where, for example, Chinese, Italian or Portuguese dishes will be offered. My wife is a vegetarian and is often spoilt for choice when choosing between the offerings. The head chef, Angelo, actively manages the restaurant by mingling with visitors helping and advising when choosing between the many offerings. The food choice and quality is excellent but be warned, the price of water at the table is too high at about 3.5euros a litre.
There is the usual evening entertainment. Many people enjoy it, some hate it. We don’t know, we go for a walk instead.
The reception staff all speak English and we have always found them to be pleasant and helpful.

Location …
Acoteias is not a “resort” but a quiet, largely residential area is situated in the Algarve approximately half way between Albufeira and Vilamoura and is close (1.5miles by road) to a small fishing village called Olhos d'Agua. The walk to the beach is an ideal stroll after dinner and is just under a mile and takes you through the Pine Cliffs resort. This is a private resort but has a special arrangement with the Falésia. Here you can watch the sun set over the cliffs or continue your walk using a private lift down to the beach. During the day the Falésia hotel runs a shuttle bus service to take visitors to the Falésia Beach. Within a couple of hundred yards of the hotel are a cash machine, supermarket, pharmacy, cafes, cycle and car hire, taxis, tour agent, bus stop. There are also a few restaurants that look very attractive but I must add that we‘ve never used them because the food at the Falésia is so good and we don’t want to miss a meal. A short walk along the beach or along the road to the fishing village Olhos d'Agua is very pleasant. Here there are a number of gift shops, cafes and restaurants. A great place to sit on a sunny afternoon, buy a drink, sit and watch people passing. We use the local bus service to travel to Albufeira and Vilamoura and then to walk back to the hotel along the beach or cliffs. From Vilamoura along the beach or cliffs is just over four miles and from Albufeira about five miles. The last part of the walk from Albufeira must be done at low tide to avoid a long detour by road. Either way you should carry plenty of water.
The Thomson rep will offer the usual coach trips to the usual places, markets and beauty spots etc. These tend to be expensive and sometimes fail to deliver exactly what they advertise.

Finally …

The Falésia Hotel is a Marmite hotel. One reviewer said, “it’s not a proper resort”? He may be right! Some will love it and some will hate it. Some will miss the sports bars, time-share touts, illegal immigrants selling sunglasses and noisy stag party crowds found in some “resorts”. If these are the things you want then the Falésia is not for you. Others will value the peace and tranquillity in Acoteias that the absence of these brings.

Room Tip: Junior suites and superior rooms do NOT have a pool view. Only SOME standard rooms overlook the poo...

This is a wonderful , well run hotel. The accomadation, we upgraded to a junior suite, was first class. The food was excellent with plenty of choice for both breakfast and dinner. You couldnt fault the staff they were friendly and efficient. The two pools were clean and there was plenty of sunbeds and shaded areas. We would recommend this hotel to anyone, and will be making a return visit in 2013.

Your Reviewers: A couple in their late forties who have had 20 years of child based holidays and are now holidaying on their own.
Hotel (General): A quiet location, 15 minute walk from the beach (free transport provided by the hotel 3 times a day if required). The town consists of a couple of hotels, a few roadside cafes and a couple of decent supermarkets.
The hotel is clean and well run, the pool area/gardens are well kept and quiet. There is no need to get up at the crack of dawn to reserve a lounger, there are always some available whether you prefer sun or shade. The reception staff are courteous and help when required.

Restaurant: Typical hotel half board selection and quality, you get what you pay for. Fine for a week, presumably a bit 'samey' for 2 weeks. However given the price paid a couple of evenings out would be sufficient to break things up. The staff in the restaurant were efficient and courteous and the service was better than the norm.

Room: We had a junior suite ( or superior room) which was nice and clean and furnished with bottled water daily. The air con wasn't particularly efficient, but it didn't really affect us as the nights weren't too warm. The term 'junior suite' could be a little misleading though.

Entertainment: This is an adults only hotel with an average guest age of c.55. ( I know this as I'm writing the review by the pool on my final day and have just had a quick sweep of the other guests) and therefore the entertainment is geared to the majority. The daytime activities are low key i.e giant Connect 4, quizzes etc. The evening entertainment is organised by the 4 cheerful and hardworking Thomson entertainers who put on their own shows (which were good). The resident group (Obsession) weren't our 'cup of tea' and appear to be a bit of a 'bar clearer'

Surrounding Area: We liked the walk along the beach to Vilamoura which took c. 2 hours or 4 hours return. If you don't want to walk both ways you can get a taxi back from the Marina for 11 euros. We also took the shuttle bus from the hotel to Albufeira one day which goes at 10.00 and collects you at 3.00, which was ample time.

Summary: Good value, enjoyable holiday. The location is well documented, but we didn't find it a problem. There are buses and taxi's if you feel the need to venture. The Hotel is nice, the food good and the staff friendly. The Thomson team work hard to entertain, but are not over pushy. All in all, we would come back.

We first stayed here 3 years ago and really enjoyed our stay. Returning was not such a good idea. Everything was not as good. Plenty of food but average and the restaurant staff very slow in clearing tables, often our table stayed cluttered until the end of the meal. Slow to come and take our order for drinks, sometimes over 15 mins and a lot of trainee staff who perhaps should not have been in the restaurant. We were given glasses with lipstick on and it was a struggle for them to open a bottle. Service was also bad at the pool bar and the show bar. We had a junior suite so had a safe included, but had to pay for a fridge. This is bad for a **** hotel. Both should be provided in the cost of the room. The a/c did not work properly and for 3 nights had an uncomfortable sleep as it was very hot. This was reported to the hotel and our rep but nothing was ever done. Room was always cleaned to high standard but unfortunately the public areas were not. Chairs were grubby in the tv lounge, the tables in the reception/sitting area where drink stained and sticky. The pool area was not cleaned each day and often saw the same piece of litter, the pool itself was very clean. Sunbeds were not always tidied at night and were where they had been left the previous day. Drinks were very expensive and Happy Hour was looked forward to but only 1 person serving so was always a queue. Having said all of that, we did have a good holiday but will certainly not go back. Shame really, just thinks it needs a major re-fit and a better training programme. The entertainment team were very good during the day and the evening.

Room Tip: High floor overlooking the gardens

Dear guests,
We are very sorry to see that your return trip was not up to your expectations. It is always disappointing to learn that customers have not enjoyed the stay with us but that much more when it is the repeat customer.
Our aim is to do our very best - at all times - and meet our guest expectations. We do realise that everybody has got the individual needs and expectations and it is our job to meet them. For that reason - the day after arrival, we are asking all our guests to let us know immediately if - by any chance - we are not meeting any of their expectations and give us the opportunity to put it right and the guests continue to enjoy their stay. Of course, any suggestions for any possible improvements are welcome.
We have to admit that at the end of June we did have some issues with our air-conditioning which was not working to its full capacity. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and in particular that we failed to explain the issue to your better satisfaction. At the same time we are also disappointed to see that we were not aware of all the other issues mentioned in your comments and again – sincerely apologise.
We are sure that from your past experience you are aware of our internal - as well as Thomson customers research. Both surveys are showing us very high satisfaction of our customers with the services provided and in particular our cleanliness - hence our disappointment to learn that you thought otherwise.
Also agree with you that there were a few comments regarding slow service at the happy hour as increased demand required more staff. Pleased to let you know this issue has been already rectified.
There are certain policies in the hotel that were not changed since you visited hotel 3 years ago and concerns facilities in the rooms. We believe in offering good value for money rates and for any extra services there can be extra charges - if services are required. We believe that there is no point of including the extra services (which create extra costs - charges) for all guest if not ALL guests require it. Good example would be not to include coffee at the end of the meal if guests do not drink coffee at all (or any other drinks).
All our rooms (and there is a choice between standard rooms and junior suites with different rates - depending on the size of the room and how many extra services are already included in the rate) have also got a mini bar. This can be used as such – mini bar – and one pays whatever is consumed. If guests would rather use the same mini bar as a fridge for storing their own drinks – there is a charge of €2.50 per room per day. All Junior Suites (ex superior rooms) have got a separate sitting area and the following is also included in the rate: Tea & Coffee facilities (replenished daily), bathrobes and slippers, welcome gift, larger TV screen and safety deposit box. However – if anybody would like to use the mini bar as a fridge – there is the extra charge mentioned for all room types. Please note that there is no extra charge if the mini bar is used as mini bar.
Once again we would like to apologise for your disappointing return trip but still pleased to hear that you have had a good holiday. Hope the above explanations can be of some help to you as well as to all our future guests. Wishing you happy future travels and we would be very happy to welcome you back.
Yours sincerely,

André Aparício

Just returned from our 2 week break at this hotel.( positives,) hotel and garden area beautiful also a big variety of food to choice from although sometimes not very warm. The Thompson staff did a very good job at entertaining worked very hard and the special entertainers from u.k. were great. This hotel is a wee bit out of the town as you had to get taxies at night if you wanted to go into Albufeira or Vilamoura as it is a very long walk, they do lay on a bus to go here through the day only, if they had have done that at night as well.So if your looking for a relaxing holiday this is the one to go to.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with an odd number as the even numbers are smaller.

I am just back from vacation in Falesia. There are a lot thorough reviews, so I just share some points.
Transfer from airport : we booked return transfer with yellowfish and found it very accurate. It costs 60 Euro and we also got red wine bottle as a present.
Hotel : clean, bright, nice pool area. We booked superior room (No 341), it was quite big and spacious.
Staff: extremely polite and anxious to help.
Food: very good!
Extras: safe and fridge cost 2,50 Euro per day each. It is optional.
Falesia Spa: quite good back massage, indoor pool and small jaccuzi.
Beach (short walk via Sheraton hotel): really nice, the most colorful and beautiful cliffs in the area.
Jogging: by the coast of the ocean on soft sand, perfect seven kilometers race to Vilamoura.
Surroundings: To get to Albufeira (six kilometers) costs 3,20 Euro by local bus and 8 Euro by taxi. If you are three people just calculate. Taxi to Vilamoura costs about 14 Euro.
Car rent: We were surprised – if you rent a car (Typa A-B) from local company for five days it will cost you about 20 -22 Euro per day and additional 5 Euro for full insurance!
Short resume: Your vacations satisfaction depends on your expectation. You must to know that two thirds of holidaymakers are over their sixties in this hotel. Evening entertainment also is matched to meet their needs. You do not find any nightlife in this area except two bars. This place is for simply relaxing vacation and this hotel lives up its slogan.

The staff are friendly in the hotel and shop assistants outside seem happy to see visitors.
The hotel is clean and comfortable but the bathrooms need a bit of a refurbishment.
There is so much to choose from at the buffet and the quality of the food is quite high. There are afew kitchen staff hanging around but once a tray of food has been taken it quickly gets replaced.
Thomson's have cut back on the entertainment and rely on the Thomson team to fill in. They were a nice talented group who always seem cheerful which must have been difficult at times.
Lauren the Thomson rep was a bit distant, she only spoke to a chosen few people and ignored the rest of us!
We went on the mini bus provided by the hotel (5 euros each) and it was well worth it.
We took a short walk with Victor to the beach which was really helpfull, as we could walk rather than wait for the bus and we were happy to climb the steps.
A lovely holiday and would go again.
