I have stayed at this property twice before but this year we had the most horrendous time it resembled a European 18-30 holiday full of gangs of young lads and girls no sleep whilst we were there due to the noise that they made all night , there were also incidents of throwing glasses from balconies during our stay and there were young children including our own around the pool , when we complained to reception staff nothing was done even though the hotel states they do not take group bookings from same sex groups , we had 14 nights of no sleep at this hotel with two young children it was like staying in hell I would never stay at this hotel again !!!!!

From the minute we arrived in the Almar Hotel the staff did everything in their power to make our stay a happy one. Lau who worked at reception was really lovely and Fernando was a real gem. The room was basic but spotless, cleaned daily by a lovely woman. There is no air con in the Almar but with the sea breeze blowing gently through the open patio doors the room remained cool considering the temperature was in the mid to high thirties at the beginning of August. The pool is clean and the gardens are well kept. The hotel is situated less than ten minutes from the beach and nightlife. We loved our stay in the Almar and would hope to return someday.

Room Tip: It costs a little extra for a room with a sea view but it is well worth it.

Sorry but our experience at the Almar wasn't the best... Upon arrival we were told that our room wasn't ready although we were offered a luggage room to store our bags. Our room was basic and very dated - resembled a flat from the 1980's. The balcony was very low and an immediate concern as we had my 8 year old son with us and were situated on the 3rd floor (I must say however, the staff immediately fixed the problem by adding an additional safety bar). The TV.... a small portable with no remote control which made us giggle I must admit!!! The lamp in the room resembled something from the antique roadshow too. The beds were 2 singles pushed together with very uncomfortable pillows - very flimsy with very little stuffing!! On the first morning we couldn't locate the kettle, when I spoke to reception I was told that the Hotel only had 'a few' to share between guests as it wasn't something that was widely used by hotel guests (hmmm!!) Now to the bathroom!!! I've seen better showers in a low class caravan - having to tie something around the shower fixtures to prevent the hose moving around and spraying the room with water whilst showering. The bar area - closed most evenings whilst on our way out so no chance of a drink on returning to the hotel (and no entertainment at any point throughout our stay) We had a fantastic time mainly due to the fact that we spent most of our time around another hotel pool and used our room as a base to wash and change. We booked our holiday in February and it wasn't booked on a budget so can't even say we got what we paid for. Service from the staff was mostly good but I'm afraid I won't be returning.

My partner and I have just returned from a 7 night stay at the Almar and while the stay wasn't terrible, we wouldn't stay there again.
On arrival the staff were quite friendly, however didn't seem to have much information about the area and were quite vague about places to visit in the area.
The Room
We stayed in a studio room, self catering with a garden view. We had expected a bed, however the mattresses off the couches needed to be put on the floor each night to sleep - both were extremely uncomfortable and the pillows were extremely thin and useless. We had to roll up the winter blankets to try and create a better option.
We also thought we had air-conditioning, however it turns out there's no air-conditioning in the hotel at all. The room was stuffy during the day and didn't cool down till after midnight.
The bathroom wasn't great - large chunks missing out of the bath, shower head wouldn't hold up, no fan and cracks through the bathroom counter. It needs a refurb.
The Kitchen was minimal and basic, however did the job. They could provide a few more dishes, utensils and containers though.
The Pool was lovely and with a big grass area, it was easy to get a spot when the sun chairs were gone. We didn't use the pool bar much, but when we did, we had to wait around for a while each time,
The location was great - you can walk nearly everywhere from the hotel. It's a short walk to the beach and the old town via the escalators. It's also close to major shops and a big supermarket. The other beach and 'the strip' is a short distance away.
The staff
This is where we had our biggest let down. The different staff on reception were not very good. Granted, they were friendly when we arrived and left, however in between they gave us very little help with any request. Extremely vague with any travel options in the area (didn't know about buses and didn't even know there was a train!), vague an unhelpful about car hire, almost dismissive when asking for help with the Wi-Fi.
We also had no luck when repeatedly asking reception/security for assistance with some guests to be quiet when they arrived back at 4am on multiple mornings from drinking and waking up the hotel guests. Trying to sleep on the horrible beds was impossible when the noise was added.

The cleaning was also pretty lacking. Over a 7 night stay, our towels were only changed ONCE. We took to washing them in the broken bath ourselves. The general cleaning of the flat wasn't the best either.

We spent a lot of time away from the hotel, so still had a good time, however there are definitely a number of things they could be doing better.

Room Tip: If you're after a studio for self catering - none of them have a sea view. We were in 107 - rig...

This was our first holiday as a couple staying in an apartment, we usually choose 4* hotels and eat out all the time. This was a great alternative. My husband had work to do and the apartment was so close to the centre of the town (about 10 -15 mins walk) that I was able to head off on long walks every day and then we could break for lunch as the shops were all close by. The large supermarket was 10 mins walk and I found a Lidl 15 mins walk away. Lots of restaurants near the apartment. The apartments were quiet and the pool and grass area were lovely offering cocktails and drinks from an outdoor bar. There was wifi in the reception and on the landings on level 1 and 2, but we were on level 3 which was a shame. There is a penthouse on level 3 with a small private pool which is suitable for groups. Overall very happy with the stay, everything was clean, and kitchen was well equipped, the bed was slightly hard but I was probably just comparing to our bed at home, we slept without problem. The upgrade for beach view is worth waking up to each morning. The weather was lovely 25 degrees on average and reception staff were very helpful, would definitely stay here again if we go back.

Room Tip: Upgrade for the beach view rooms

We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Almar, we arrived at the hotel 10 minutes before check in and had to wait an hour for the room to be ready as the maid was on lunch, however we were offered a secure room to store our luggage whilst waiting.

Once the room was ready we were given a ground floor apartment with a sea view ( we had paid extra for a sea view room). As the room was ground floor it was right in front of the pool which meant that everyone outside could look directly into the room and we had no privacy. We spoke to the receptionist about this and she moved us to a sea view room on the top floor and the view was beautiful.

We're not usually fussy about what floor the room is on but we did not want to spend all our time in the room with our curtains constantly closed. In light of this the reception were very helpful and accommodating and throughout our stay we found all of the staff to be very friendly.

The hotel is a very short walk from the old town and is at the top of a gentle incline, we expected it to be steeper going off other reviews we read on here but we found it to be no problem.

The rooms and hotel in general is extremely dated but was clean on arrival, the maid came in daily but only seemed to replenish the toilet roll and mop a small section of the floor.

The towels were meant to be changed twice a week but after leaving them in a pile on the bathroom floor, after a few days, she didn't take the hint, folded them up and hung them back up. Unfortunately no matter how obvious we made it we didn't receive fresh toweling throughout our stay.

The pool seemed clean although we did not use it, reception did inform us if you wanted a parasol for the pool area you would have to buy one from the local store. We also noticed that there were very few loungers, maybe 12 tops so unless you are an early riser don't expect to get one.

All in all we wouldn't stay in this hotel again although the reception staff are excellent the rooms are very dated, the bathroom was very poor and the cleanliness awful.

Room Tip: Ask for the top floor or pay extra for a sea view as the view is wonderful. Beware there is no air c...

This hotel is located at the top of the escalators just 350meters up a gentle incline along 2 streets,a nice easy walk, rooms are very nice with a kitchen, lounge, bathroom and bedroom, the balcony is spacious with a table and 4 chairs, sea view is worth the extra payment, pool is nice with a terrace and garden and a bar open until 18.00hrs, the hotel bar opens until 23.00hrs,this is a nice hotel for families to stay.
