“Good size accommodation, in need of modernisation”
Reviewed 16 June 2014

Firstly there are two parts to Cerro Malpique one is old and dated the other, apparently much newer. We were situated in the old building, which although very spacious is getting very tired. Warped bathroom door, scruffy, kitchen cupboard door missing. Although reasonably clean, shelves had not been dusted and drawers in the kitchen were in need of a thorough clean. Mattresses were like rocks, after 4 nights with little sleep we had to mention this to reception, who were exceptionally helpful and managed to get some mattress toppers which made the beds much more comfortable. However the worse part of all was the situation of the property it was an up hill climb, impossible for anyone with walking difficulties and a definite no no for wheelchair users. We found the climb absolutely exhausting. Externally the grounds were well kept and the poor clean, although rather small for the summer months if the property was full. Reasonably close to the old town which was lovely, but a very steep climb with many steps unless you wanted to walk all the way round the roads, which was a long way. No amenities in the immediate vicinity if you did not want to to to the old town, restaurants, bars etc. We would look for somewhere flatter in future.

Spent a week at Cerro Malpique and had a lovely time. We travelled as two couples and both had a 1 bed apartment that were very spacious and clean. The kitchen was well equipped and the beds very comfortable. The bathroom was fine, the shower had good pressure and there was always plenty of hot water, one slight problem was that our bathroom door didn't shut properly, not a major issue for us though. The balcony had good views of the old town and beach and the pool area and the morning sun meant we could sit bad have our coffee and enjoy the town waking up. The apartment was well equipped, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster, coffee maker, fridge. We had a tv which didn't work, I reported this to reception and they sent someone up within 15 minutes, who did exactly what we had done and then rang reception and said the tv didn't work! It never was fixed over the week and as not all the rooms were in use it would have been nice of them to exchange ours for one from another room, it wasn't a big issue though. The walk to the square, phew! I had calf muscles I didn't know existed by the end of the week, yes there are a lot of steps, hard going in the heat of the day or after a few drinks and a big meal. All in all it was a really good stay, we enjoyed Albufeira and would return. One last thing, the steps down from the pool are VERY slippery, my brother in law slipped and bruised his back, shoulder and elbow even though he was treading carefully, maybe the surface should be changed?

Room Tip: Ask for pool and sea view or you may be down below pool level with little view at all.

We had a lovely relaxing time in Albufeira staying at the Cerro Malpique. We've been to the resort several times, so know the area, but it was our first stay here.
It's up the hill from the old town, with steps either side of the apartments down to town (95 one way, 98 the other). So you need to be mobile to enjoy the location.
Our apartment was ideal for the two of us, with a reasonably sized bathroom, well equipped kitchen, dining area, large living space with beds & sofa & a balcony.
From the balcony you could see down over the old town, part of the beach and the sea. We really enjoyed sitting out there for breakfast, before it got too hot.
The pool was large enough to swim or paddle, although the water was cold when first entering you soon got used to it.
As ever, the old town was a delight and we ventured up to the strip once just to remind ourselves what we used to do when younger.
An excellent holiday which was over all too soon.

We stayed in this apartment 2 years ago after being given an upgrade from Malpique 1. Then had 3 big apartments with huge balconies. This year as we had separate bookings and arrived on different days, only one booking was offered an upgrade therefore we ended up in sperate buildings. It wasn't a huge problem as I spent all my time at the other apartment. The apartments are clean and well equipped. Location is brilliant right in the old town and not far from the beach. With the amount of taxis we seen coming and going we were glad we were walking distance to bars and restaurants.

After staying at the cerro malpique last October, we decided to stay again in April. This time our daughter was travelling with us, so we decided to upgrade to a 2 bedroom 'superior' apartment. The apartment was not much better than the one we had last year, and the treck from reception to Malpique 2 was a marathon. No lift, and the view etc. wasn't as good either. Don't get me wrong, the apartment itself was ok, we don't do swimming pools etc. it is just a base to sleep and shower and chill out. So, basically, you are just as well staying at the Malpique 1 with a lift and everything you need. Saying that, we would stay again, mainly because of the location.

stayed for a week beginning of may - had apt 103 - very spacious, clean and had everything you could need for a self catering holiday (1st time SC for us so was a little worried)
the staff were fantastic.....even phoning one of the trips for us using their own mobile!....we didn't have a bottle opener.....no probs reception opened the bottle for us and within 15mins was knocking on the door with a new one purchased at the local shop!
yes it is on a hill so if you do have walking related health problems this could be a little difficult....there are steps leading down to the town & beach....admitt to finding these heavy going when we 1st arrived (more to do with being unfit) but by 3rd day much easier and now feeling much fitter :-)....reception will happily call a taxi for you and it arrives within 5mins. the local Aldi & Lidl are approx 15mins walk away....but you'll have to cross a busy main road for Lidl.....the pool is cold....but with the heat during the day it's refreshing....and once brave enough to dip it was lovely......pool area clean, pool clean, no issues with finding sunbed or parasol.....a couple of steps upto the pool area but not a problem. Nodoby we met there had found any problems either....and the main topic of conversation was the steps....but its a giggle and you meet some lovely people on the way up...oooo there's a bench at the top for you to stop and celebrate getting to the top :-D enjoy and have fun...where else can you eat all you want then burn off the excess each day

Room Tip: if you want a sea view then ask to be on the higher levels....the rooms facing the sea and pool area...

I've just returned from a 3 night stay here. The apartment is basic, yet comfortable, clean and tidy which is fine, afterall it;s only somewhere to sleep!. Had a lovely view of the beach from our balcony, which was something of a sun trap perfect for those holiday breakfasts and evening drinks.Staff were friendly. I would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to others thinking of staying in the same area.
