“Excellent holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014

Just back from two weeks at the Cerro Mar Colina with my husband and two young children, aged 3 and 14 months, and my dear old dad! Our room was block 4, room 301 and had a fantastic sea and pool view. Our two-bedroom apartment was spacious and lovely, with a full kitchen with all the equipment you could possibly need, a huge fridge-freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. It also had two bathrooms as one of the bedrooms was en-suite, and a huge balcony. And maid service and fresh towels every day! I couldn’t fault the place, although we were self-catering so didn’t use the restaurant.

I would definitely come back here. The stairs everyone complains about really were not that bad, we just carried the baby down and folded up the buggy, no problem. Sometimes we did get a taxi back up the hill (3 euros 50) but mainly because my 3 year old was getting too tired.

The only small disappointment with Albufeira as a whole was that the sea was a bit too choppy for my 3 year old who refused point blank to go anywhere near the water even if held tightly by her dad (although she loved the pool). The waves would be great fun for older kids though.
I’ve never been in a nicer apartment on holiday that’s part of a complex. And Kat the Thomson rep was lovely.

Weekends did get a bit lively with stag and hen parties coming home in the early hours, but otherwise very peaceful with very little noise.

A bit belated but stayed here for Christmas 2013
I have to say this was one of the best equipped apartments I have ever stayed in....
Large fridge, dishwasher, washing machine microwave plus all utensils that you need. The apartment was large and very well fitted and clean.
Yes it was a step walk into the old town so not for the bad of walking but helped to sober you up after a lovely night out.
We for one will defiantly be going back.

My husband, 2yr old and myself booked through Falcon (Thomson) and stayed for a week in the Colina block. We got a two bed apartment and it was very clean, spacious and comfortable.

I had emailed ahead to ask for a sea view. Unfortunately we got one of the apartments that's nearly underground, couldn't see anything out the windows! It was room 308. I didn't ask to have it changed so they might well have moved us. I was just too exhausted to move rooms after a 5am flight and they had gone to the trouble of organising an early checkin (9.30am) for us so we could nap and change etc.

We did have a large patio with grass, plants and decking, lots of patio furniture etc. it worked out well in the end as my son came down with acute laryngitis and chest infection so we spent a lot of time in apartment and keeping him out of the sun and he was able to play in the patio in the shaded area. The staff were very helpful in getting a doctor out and helping us find 24hr pharmacies in the wee hours.

The beds were surprisingly comfy, the furniture and fittings seemed quite modern, I'd be hard pushed to find a better apartment. The tv was from the Stone Age and just showed a few Portuguese and German channels. But thank god some of them showed the World Cup matches so we could see them while stuck in apartment.

The town was lovely and everyone we came across was so welcoming to our son, he got loads of high fives and tickles! The beach was beautiful but unfortunately we spent very little time there.

The pool at the hotel was fabulous, very clean and the gardens were well kept.

My husband got a full body massage in the spa for Father's Day and said it was excellent.

The weather was around 23-25 but felt much warmer, it was very pleasant. Wear your suncream properly people, I saw so many badly sunburnt, there's just no need for it!

We ate twice at Indian Taj just opposite Bank restaurant and it was best I've had in years.

Avenida Liberdade (sp?) just off the square is great for letting little ones run off steam in the shade of the trees.

The one major drawback was those steps! Grand going down but we found it very tough climbing back up with a toddler and buggy (and all the other stuff that comes with toddlers) in the hot sun. There is a shuttle bus but we never seemed to be organised to get it and you can get a taxi. If we were a couple on our own they wouldn't bother us but it's hard with smallies. Bring some extra cash for taxis back or plan your day around the hotel bus schedule.

Yellowfish all the way! I don't think my son would have coped with a long coach journey with lots of stops.

Aldi very nearby and well stocked. On the way there from cerro mar is a sign for a little bar off to the right. Very handy to stop in for a small beer and catch up on your internet with the free wifi.

All the staff at cerro mar and indeed in any of the restaurants we went to were so warm and helpful and brilliant with kids.

Just returned after a 9 night stay. Very spacious well equipped apartments and really clean. However, we booked with Jet 2 and felt like second class citizens compared to people who had booked with Thomsons. We were allocated an apartment across the road, not a good location, it was overlooking a busy road, so lots of traffic noise and barking dogs, hardly relaxing. To reach the apartment you had to go through three gates, a door and into a lift, then you entered a gloomy corridor which was like a cave, no light at all. We had requested a sea view, and if you stood on a chair or table you could just about see the sea. Only Thomsons guests stay in the main hotel. While we were there they were installing some wooden steps, this took several days, so lots of
noise with drilling etc. Hotel was spotless, breakfast adequate and most of the staff were friendly. Would return but only booking via Thomsons. Definitely not for people with mobility problems, 97 steps to reach the square, so you need to be pretty fit.

Room Tip: You need to be in the main hotel

6 of us stayed for 4 nights in the 3 bed apartment, the apartment was massive with a great balcony, rooms were very clean and specious,
Maid service daily,
Walk to the old town ok, the steps are fine, we just needed a taxi home after a few wines :)
We had a great time here. And will be back :)

Room Tip: 3 bed apartment is massive it was plenty of space of 6 adults

Friendly staff on check in, can't fault the rooms and facilities. Such a shame on the finer details, e.g when you have a genuine issue, uninterested and unaccomodating staff. Our room was directly under a hotel event, no notice , kept awake by staff setting up (2days) and live music scheduled. We're offered to move apartment but to another building across the street, which suggests they understood our complaint, but chose not to go out of their way to address our issue. An invite to the event is all that was needed!

When we arrived we were checked swiftly by a very efficient friendly guy he told me that my request had been accommodated and that I have been allocated a lovely apartment. He gave us a voucher for a free bottle of wine for the restaurant that night and a small map showing us to our apartment.

We were allocated room 503 in the Atlantic view building. The apartment was huge. Fully fitted kitchen with washing machine fridge freezer and dishwasher. The bedroom was spacious with large double wardrobe with a safe. The was a balcony off the bedroom with great views of the sea. The the best part, once we pulled back the curtain in the living room we had a massive balcony shared with one other apartment the gorgeous views over the old town and the sea.

The apartment was spotless and the housekeepers were brilliant and very friendly.

Wifi is very expensive it was 30 euro for 7 days which is a bit expensive.

There was a pool in our block but we preferred to use the pool in the main gardens building as the sun lasted there all day and also the pool bar was there with food and drinks.

There is also an indoor and a Jacuzzi, swimming hats must be worn here.
There was a spa and a 2 Lane bowling alley but we didn't use those.

The apartment were on a steep hill the Atlantic view building was halfway on the Hill across from the main gardens building and the colina block was at the top of the hill.

The steps to the old town were fine going down but on the way back up they were a killer even for us 20 odd year olds and then the hill after but I wouldn't let this put me off staying here.

I would definitely recommend these apartments and will return in the future.
