Never been Portugal, never been alone so booked the ALBUFIERA SOL HOTEL & SPA has it ticked all my boxes. Well pleased with the hotel, only stopped 4 nights as a last minute bargain break. Very very quiet hardly saw another person in the complex, I personally could not find fault with the place new beds beautiful decor flat screen tv, everything in the kitchen you require cleaned everyday free air-con, great view to the pool and sea (room 410) wi-fi in the room for 7 euros for 3 days, supermarket 2 minutes away, a great little cafe / bar even closer where all the Brits congregate in the afternoon with superb friendly atmosphere, couple of beautiful beaches about 20 minute walk but worth the effort. I only payed £50 for the 4 nights absolute steal believe me. Very impressed and may soon be back work permitting.

Room Tip: Sea veiw room on a high floor

Ive just turned from a 4 night break at the albuferia sol hotel ( ex Dom Pancho ), i arrived at about 11.30 pm and was greeted at reception and checked in very fast. I walked through the corridor which is very old fashioned and outdated and didn't know what to except with the room , when i got in the room it was fine very spacious and a clean and tidy bathroom even though it smelt very funny i think the whole of portugal had bad drains not just the hotel. The hotel is not in the best location you are about a ten minute walk from new town and 40 from old town. Whilst in the hotel i seen about 4 other people so was very empty and no atmosphere also the bar was not open and as for there being a "spa" there isn't one the indoor pool is a building outside which isn't even open. I never ate or drank in the hotel so can not comment on the prices or quality. As for calling it a 4 star hotel i would say its more 3 star compared to other hotels I've stayed in.
If someone asked if i would stay here again or recommend it i would say no due to location and lack of atmosphere and facilities but i paid cheap for it this time and was happy with the hotel for what i paid.

We stayed here for a week in October and couldnt fault the hotel. We got it very cheaply and I was worried that we would end up in a dive but it was a completely different experience. The hotel is easy to find and has plenty of free parking, it is tucked away in a quiet corner so car was safe (I can vouch for this as I left the door open in the car for the bones of an hour by accident while we were in the room and it was still there when we got back down) The reception in bare enough but the receptionist helpful. We did find it a little odd that they kept your passports for the whole week but maybe i'm new to staying abroad. The hallways are very outdated and may scare you at first glance but we got one of the updated rooms on the third floor and couldnt fault it. We spent alot time in the room as we just wanted to relax and stay away from the heat so it was great. The kitchen was well equiped and has everything you need for a short break like ours, beds very comfy although two single beds together did not bother us. little sitting room with couch and tv with a few english channels kept us happy. Room cleaning service was good but they did come at odd times to clean like 4-7 in the evening but this did not bother us. Very honest too as I left a ring in the bathroom and was worried that it may not be there when I got back in the evening but was glad to see it still there. Our room also had a pool and sea view (room 316) and we didnt even ask for it. The alternative view probably wouldnt have seen great (car park and other apartments). The pool is a lovly size and was nice and quiet while we were there.

The only draw back of this hotel is that it is about 20 minutes walk from the beach in the newtown down a really steep hill and not worth the walk, not a nice beach, dont bother and as for the newtown thats about a 5-10 minute walk which is grand if you like cheap drinks and night clubs but even as a young couple (ages 23-27) we didnt love the "strip" went there the first night and never again. We took a taxi to the old town every evening costing max 5-6 euros for us both so it was grand! Old town is way nicer.

While the food can be cheap in lots of places you do pay for what you get here as anywhere else and we like our food so we probably ate more expensively than most every night but here are some really nice places, Casa de Fonte in the old town (really nice owner may even buy you a free drink) and the Sizzling Stone in the newtown is a definate, such a nice place, you can cook your dinner on a hot stone brought to you. This was definetly the nicest place I ate for the whole week and we returned twice.

Other suggestions: Go to Slide and Splash, we really enjoyed our day there, defo a must, also take a trip to Villamora as it is way more upper class and cleaner place and walk around the marina. Lastly definetly do a jeep safari and see the real algarve, we went with extreme tours and definetly would go again. If beach lover go to the oldtown definetly.

Albuferia isnt for everyone and I would defo recommend this hotel as extremely good value but if only you could move it to the old town as you will just end up going there every night anyway! Personally Albuferia needs a serious clean up, the place has rubbish strewn everywhere and footpaths falling apart and graffiti everywhere, I live in Ireland and we take pride in our towns and have much nicer beaches just not the weather, your really only going to albuferia for cheap drink and a bita sun, dont expect much else. dont think we'd go again but enjoyed our stay.

We stayed here for 2 weeks from 20th September, it has changed its name to Albufeira Sol, we were in a 1 bedroom apartment with pool view. The room was very spacious, nice sitting room, bedroom with plenty of hanging space for clothes. Lovely bathroom with bath and shower which dont normally get, the kitchen had 2 hobs, a combination oven/microwave, toaster and plenty pans, plates etc.....

The rooms were cleaned everyday and cannot fault the place, we were self catering so never ate in the restaurant, just had a few snacks by the pool like chips and sandwiches, they were okay but did prefer to either do something in apartment or pop out for breakfast/lunch....... Supermarket is just along the road so very handy. Also like Rumours for breakfast or they did lovely homemade burgers for lunch, we also liked a bar at the end of the road where hotel was on the right hand side, was run by a local lad, 1 pint was just 1.50 euros.

We loved the pool and could always get a sunbed, was plenty and did not have to be up at a daft time for this ( some people have commented that couldnt get sunbeds, maybe is a problem in high season but not when we were there) The pool was very cold but very refreshing if you were hot from the sun...

On a night time we like a restaurant down the main street called Rania's, ate there around 4 times and never had a bad meal, also liked the food in Little Britian and a restaurant called Cockerel Kitchen (need to book for here ) Also the Dubliner irish bar very good, live music on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, good laugh. We also liked a bar that was on the bottom road as if headiung for the strip, cant rem its name but it started with I and had cocktails half price before 10pm.

We personally were not taht keen on the strip, found it a bit OTT but liked the shops along there, on a night time prefered to go down the main street instead of the strip.. We also went into the old town which was fab, with all the different shops, bars, restaurants, live acts, music was great and plenty happening. We sometimes used the little train you can get (one way is 2.00 euros or all day 3.50 euros) or sometimes we just got a taxi as was only 4.50 euros

Overall I Think this area and apartments are fab and we would go back again

Room Tip: we paid a little extra and had a pool view room which was fab

stayed here last year and am so glad went back again. the hotel is now called albufeira sol, but nothing has changed. if you are wanting a quiet getaway with excellent facilities then book here. everything you need for a self catering holiday. rooms spotless and cleaned everyday. receptionists are very polite and helpful, especially the lady whose name we didnt get, but she always had a smile on her face and we had a good laugh with her everytime we went to the reception. 5min walk to the lively 'strip' and 20 min walk to the old town. ideal in everyway. entertainment only on in the hotel every third day, but with everything close by its not needed in the hotel. will be returning next year.

Room Tip: depends what you want, all rooms have balconys. we always pay that bit extra for the pool view as we...

Stayed here at the beginning of July and loved it! Good mix of people- families, young groups and couples. Huge pool, never over crowded. Always sun beds available and plenty of shade. Rooms are well equipped and spacious. We were lucky and had a view over looking the pool :). Staff very friendly and helpful with 24 hr reception. Location was spot on. About a 20 min walk to the beach. A great choice of restaurants on doorstep. Close to the strip of bars but not too close to be disturbed. Old Town is a must visit, especially in the evening when it comes alive. Outside escalators take you down to a different world. Loved it. Loads of bars, restaurants and live music. Great beach. About 6 euro from the hotel or a 40 min walk. Would definitely recommend. Everywhere was very welcoming. Ps. Being a light jacket as gets windy in the evening.
