hi

we arrived on the 28th of july 2007 for a 2 weeks stay , the room was very spacious for a studio by far the biggest i have even been in,very well equipt and clean, defo no complaints (room 16), it was not modern by all means a bit dated but who cares if we wanted 5* modern facilities then that what you have to pay for i am affraid !!!! this was a simple 3* apartment complex very quiet, do as you please lovley pool and right on the beach exactley what we paid for.

our room got cleaned tuesdays, thursdays and saturdays and towls changed 3 times a week and bed sheets once per week.

The reception was open 2 hours per day but to be honest through out the whole two weeks i went in twice once to pick up the keys and the second to drop them off.

the complex is set down a very steep hill and to be honest i would not recomend to anybody in a wheelchair or infirm a bit of a killer, we went with a baby in a pushchair, we are a young couple in our 30's and reasonably fit so wasnt to much of a problem for us.

if you are after a in your face holiday with hundread of kids, kids clubs, entertainmment ,loads of reps mythering you ,noise etc... this isnt the complex for you ..
its a quiet family/couples complex for the clienst that like to have a bit of piece and quite no noise,be independent and dont need there hands holding 24 7 from a rep etc..

p.s please note hundreds of people travel to this complex evey year as a general rule if you have had a good holiday nobody other than family and friends get to hear about it , so i wouldnt worry about the odd complaint hear and there they are not major ...

Well we arrived after a very pleasant journey to our apartment. What a disappointment! It really was very basic and dirty. Someone had quite obviously been ill in our toilet and it had not been cleaned, there was a big pile of rubbish under the sink and for some reason the fridge had been pulled out from under the units and left out.
The shower curtain was vile; it really made me want to be sick just to look at it. Too say I was unhappy was an understatement! I rang First Choice and asked to be moved. No joy, they were less than useless. I offered to pay to move, still no luck their attitude was 'its high season there is nothing we can do'
Yes they did offer to get the room cleaned but it would have still been very miserable looking and there was no way I was getting in that shower with that mould encrusted curtain.
Eventually, I spoke to the Manager who was very pleasant and helpful and she arranged to move us to another room which was an improvement but still not great. I would never come here again.

Booked this holiday to escape the scottish weather and we certainly did! Weather was wonderful the whole week we were there. We stayed in appartment 16, which unfortunately was one of the appartments that did not have air-conditioning so after a few uncomfortable nights and searching up and down the shops on the strip we found an electric shop in the Old Town and bought a fan, which helped alot!
The bathroom was not particularly clean at all but if you put the fact there was something splattered on the outside of the toilet basin out of your head, didn't look too closely at the tiles and tried not to let the very questionable shower curtain touch your skin you are fine.
We did not use the kitchen at all with exception of the kettle for making coffee as again it was not the cleanest but cleaner than the bathroom! Besides who wants to be stuck in the kitchen cooking with that view.
Best bits - sun terrace looking onto magnificent ocean view, pool area clean and really nice. Huge living area.
Bad bits - no air-con, uncomfy bed, maid service only once for towels no clean sheets, bathroom, cardiac hill down to appartments.
Overall we loved our holiday, restaurants nice, beer cheap, good location bit of a walk to strip though. would definately go back just perhaps not to these appartments. If you have booked here don't worry as rooms are adequate just don't expect the ritz, and have a great holiday.

Stayed in Rm 31, double bed studio. Clean apartment but bed awful, very creaky, falling apart, ended up putting mattress on floor to get some sleep. Kettle lead had wires hanging out and had been burnt on cooker, no battery in smoke alarm. Poor selection of crockery (slept 3 but only one wine glass, one side plate, one bowl ...). But apart from these moans PdA was in a lovely situation, superb views from balcony, quiet, adequate sunbeds, did not have to wake at 4 am to go and reserve one! Only downside no parasols so had to try and grab a palm tree for shade.
Booked with First Choice and, as with previous reviewer, was annoyed at their money grabbing tactics (prebooking return seats etc). It seemed that those who prebooked were nearer the front of the plane but I don't think it is necessary.
DO NOT go on the gypsy market trip, biggest con going. Everything is 5 euros and fake! Full of "Lookie, Lookie" people! What a waste of half a day.
The hill from apartments was a killer, but found a short cut through an alley at the top of the hill (head to the right and it runs beside a house and the wall, comes out behind Kiss night club)which cut off a good 5-8 mins off the walk to the Strip. Would go again but may pack paper plates and plastic glasses!!

Have just returned from a week at the Praia Dos Averios apartments, and had a generally enjoyable stay.

Plus points:

Very spacious rooms, adequate kitchen with decent cooker and fridge, but I doubt many people will spend much time cooking.
Large sun terrace for first floor guests.
Ideal location for the beach, which is literally a 500 yards away, and is very quiet.
Good pool area and gardens, beautiful palm trees.
Views out to sea are stunning.
Just far enough away from the busy resort, yet close enough to comfortably walk to, although as the brochure states, the inital hill up from the apartments is a killer, even for me!!

Negatives:

Lack of proper cutlery even for snacks. My girlfriend and I had one bowl between us and one glass.
Problems with the fridge and bath weren't dealt with despite several complaints.
Leading on from this, there was a general lack of staff throughout our stay. Reception is only open for two hours a day, and the pool bar was shut for the entire week, with no sign of life.
Pool area, although lovely, lacked any umbrellas/parasols under which to shade, which often left people fighting for the shade under the palm trees.
No fans or air conditioning made for a few sticky nights.

Overall, for a three star property, it's a more than adequte destination. Rooms are largely good, and the pool and beach are superb (Although if going to the beach I reccommend taking your own umbrella, the owners charge 15 euros a pop for theirs!!). Downside is the general lack of staff to deal with problems you might have, and the lack of shade by the pool.

Just got back from a weeks holiday in Portugal staying at Praia Dos Aveiros Apartments. We had a lovely time and really enjoyed our stay. Our trip was booked with First Choice (more about them later) but all the apartments are privately owned so every room is different. We stayed in number 59 on the 3rd floor and were not dissapointed, the decor/furniture is a bit dated but the room overall was good and very spacious. The views were spectacular. The apartments are very clean and well looked after and the beach bar food/staff are really nice and welcoming.

The strip is about a 10min walk from the apartments but to be honest we avoided it. It wasnt our cup of tea, lots of english food and english pubs with loud music bursting out of each one. We did spend our evenings in the Old Town which was perfect, just a 30 minute walk along Fishermans beach and we got the train back. The town is very low key and mainly resturants and a few live bands, we had some fantastic meals there.

We did one trip and that was excellent I would say that this is a must. We went on the Jeep Safari and was the most amazing day and great value for money. The drivers/guides make the trip and are a great laugh. Especially "Chicken George"

Be wary of First Choice reps though as they seem to use scaremonger tactics to get extra money from you. Their first scam seemed to be phonecards, they told us on the coach transfer to our resort that the phone calls cost a fotune on your mobile (this is true) and that its best to buy phonecards from them now for £10 euros each as they claimed that the ones in the shops dont work properly and you just loose your money. Total rubbish, we bought one at the shop for £5 euro and we made 4 5-10min calls to the UK from it. The next scam was pre booking your seats for when you travel home. The line was that the aiport only open about 3 check indesks maximum, even if its their busiest day and have 10 return flights, you all check in using these 3 desks and they will sit you anywhere so you may not be sat together coming home. We declined this as we have never had a problem with sitting together. This really annoyed us as when we got to the airport a lot of elderly couples seemed to have been conned by this and there was a lot of panic as when everyone got off the coach people were running to the desks and it caused chaos but when we got in the building there were plenty of check in desks, in fact 3 desks were open just for our flight!!

We really did have a fantastic time and would definitely return to Praia Dos Aveiros, just maybe not with First Choice.
