This is a small 2 star hotel/pension and in a great location. We had a kettle and fridge in our room which makes a huge difference - cups of tea/coffee in the morning and chilled wine in evening! Balcony was very small - too small to sit out on. If you have a room overlooking the old town the views are great - but take earplugs unless you are out till 4am cos you can hear all the noise from the bars in town. Pool very small and sunbeds need a good clean - always covered in bird muck. Reception generally pleasant and helpful. Breakfast limited choice - just cold meat, cheese, bread and fruit. Rooms need updating but kept clean and air-con very efficient. Great value for what we paid on Travel Republic.

This is not a 5 star hotel, but the price should give that away!!! We booked last minute at a very good price. It is a great value budget hotel in a great location, far enough out of the old town to not be too noisy and yet a very short walk to get to the beach and the bars and restaurants. Maid service is provided every day in the clean, air-conditioned rooms. We were staying as a 3 and had a very nice spacious room that had a twin bedroom and a pull out couch in the decent size living area. The breakfast is just basic continental stuff, ham, cheese, cereal etc, but it is plentiful. The pool and sunbathing area is quite small but it is not fully utilized so there was always space whenever we went. There are also sunbathing areas on the rooves which no one seemed to know about. But I suppose it is hardly surprising that there was always room when the beach is just a 10 minute stroll away. I am looking to come back to Albufeira next year in a group and this is the 1st place I will check for prices and availability.

Room Tip: Our corner triple room was very spacious.

Characterful little hotel conveniently close to the beach, Old Town Square and shops.
Basic and a little dated but spotlessly clean with a dedicated daily maid service, tidying rooms and changing towels. Very hot when we stayed so air conditioning welcome.
Great little pool tucked away in a small courtyard, which never seemed overcrowded.
Staff throughout extremely pleasant and helpful. A special mention to Marie Rosa who
looked after our room and the industrious bar man who fetched our Sagres - thank you!
We will be back again in September.....

stayed here in june`11 the hotel is small and friendly . we had room only so cant comment on food but there`s a decent place across the road for breakfast, £4 for full english . the hotel is in the old town of albufeira100 yards from sol y mar at the top of the steps and a 3 minute walk to the lift for the beach. our first room was small and poor quality, no balcony, broken tv remote, peddle bin, fridge (warmed drinks up !), shower head and no coat hangers! we moved next day to room with everything working , balcony and view. room 304 . we did request this room , so its worth asking for rooms 302 through to 316 , even numbers. hope this is helpful ;-)

Room Tip: 302 to 316 sea and pool view with balcony

The hotel is far enough away from the hustle and bustle but close enough to all the restaurants, bars and shops! Very small pool but a great place to get to know other guests - some of which are from all over the world! Basic continental breakfast but will keep you going if you like fresh bread, cheese, ham and preserves! Delicious coffee even if it is from a machine! Bus stop for the open top bus tour just around the corner - quite leisurely! Lovely room (with a not so lovely view, but who spends that much time in the room anyway!) with air conditioning, (Phew!), refrigerator and microwave. Bathroom with bath and shower! Book a high floor room with sea view - maybe the extra supplement will be worth it. Lots of fab restaurants close by. The Old Town of Albufeira is vibrant, colourful, cultural, exciting - WONDERFUL!

We have just returned for a week at the Vila Recife. I wasn't too sure what to expect as we booked the hotel very last minute and just hoped it would be ok. First impressions of the hotel was that it is very dated, however is very clean. The main guy at reception isn't overly friendly - so we weren't particularly 'greeted' when we arrived but he was helpful if we had any questions.
Good points on this hotel -
* Air Conditioning ( although we didn't use this much as it was pretty cool at night)
* Rooms have a safe (15 euros + 15 euros deposit)
* Rooms dated but extremely clean - towels were changed on a daily basis. Everyday when we returned to our room the beds had been made and everything was clean and tidy. In other hotels I've stayed in you may find the odd day this doesn't happen however at the Vila Recife this always did!
* Brillant location - 2 mins walk into the main square which has lots of places to eat and some really nice shops
* The pool itself was small but you could get a sunbed on most days
* The sun terrace was great - you could go up there once the sun had gone from the pool area, it was often really quiet so we mainly had it to ourselves....apart from the seagulls!

Not so good points -
* I personally didn't find the staff overly welcoming or friendly (however this may have been because the hotel was so busy)
* The bar didn't look too great - I can't fully comment on it though as we never tried it for that reason!
* Showers were a bit cold!
* We had private transfers to take us to and from the hotel....the day before we were due to go home we had a receipt from the transfer company to call a number to find out our pick up time. We asked reception if we could use their phone for this - it was an automated service which told you your pick up time in 2 seconds, however the hotel charge a euro everytime someone wants to ring this number which I thought was a bit OTT!

Overall the positive things outweigh the negative for this hotel and I would return for a cheap week in the sun!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 10 days at the end of June. This seemed to us to be the perfect time of year to go, as everywhere was busy but not overcrowded, and the weather was hot and cloudless every day.

Positives of the hotel – brilliant location, good value for money, free air conditioning, rooms cleaned and towels changed daily, hot showers (for about 5 minutes), pool never too busy and sun loungers always available, roof terraces had beautiful views and were usually empty (really nice to sit up here in the evenings with a drink), supermarket opposite.

Negatives of the hotel – tiny balcony in rooms, small pool which gets shaded in the afternoon, 2 sea gulls nesting by the pool who squawked all day and messed everywhere, maids extremely noisy from about 8am onwards.

The hotel is a bit of a lottery in terms of the rooms. We were originally given a room in the old part of the hotel near reception, which was large but carpeted and very dated, and had no balcony at all. Reception were helpful when we complained and found a different room for us to change to the next day. This was in the newer part of the hotel and the room was much better, it actually looked like a holiday room. However, we were on level 2 which was street level and we looked out on an alley. Any rooms below level 2 on the alley side were below street level and so had dark enclosed balconys. Rooms on the other side of the hotel overlooked the pool and the town, so had much better views but probably got a bit more noise from town.

Albufeira Old Town centre is only a few minutes walk from the hotel, and is lovely. There are plenty of good bars and restaurants, and there was entertainment provided most nights in the square. It had a very friendly atmosphere and most other people there seemed to be couples or families, rather than stag or hen parties or rowdy groups of teenagers getting drunk. The Albufeira strip would be more suitable for groups of that kind. We visited the strip one night, the taxi was very cheap to get there and back and we had a really nice meal in a restaurant called The Sizzling Stone. But after seeing the strip we were very glad that we were staying in the Old Town, which is much nicer.

The beach was also a short walk away, and was very large and clean. It was close to town so easy to pop to get drinks and icecreams. The only downside to the beach was that it is extremely shelly, so your feet get scraped a bit, especially in the shallow water.

Albufeira was lovely and we would go back to the Old Town again. Vila Recife was a cheap and basic base in a good location for the beach and town, and we would consider returning. But if you like to spend a lot of time in your room or by the pool then it would probably be worth spending a bit more money on another hotel.
