“fantastic relaxing break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2013

Myself and my husband have just returned from an 5 night break for my birthday, and we will def be returning. This is a wonderful quiet little hotel with lovely staff who make you feel most welcome. The hotel is spotless clean and has wonderful character. We ate 3 of our evening meals at the hotel because the food was better there than the few restaurants in the area. Most of the residents there are return customers. The nearby beaches are beautiful but be prepared to walk back up the steep hill in the scorching sun. We paid 9 euros each way in a taxi to the old town where it is a lot more busy with street musicians and several shops and bars. if you want a nice relaxing quiet break with the option to go into town then this is a ideal hotel.

Spent a week in July. Staff are wonderful, couldn't be more pleasant, helpful or cheerful. Rooms are basic and pretty tired, but you get what you pay for. Very clean. Comfy beds. Cleaned every day. Only facilities in rooms are small fridge, tiny tv with one news channel and a noisy fan. It's reasonable to eat out, and the hotel restaurant is good. We found best grub at OAmigo restaurant just 5 mins walk away at top of hill on main road. Coastline is stunning, small coves and narrow cliff top pathways are wonderful to explore. Can honestly say its one of the prettiest coastal stretches I've seen. Can get bus into town for under 5€ for two of you, get off at old town and wander squares and cobbled lanes, beautiful churches, nice beach. Gypsy market next to bus station on a Tuesday and Saturday is worth a look. Taxis into town from the hotel will be approx 9€.

Room Tip: We stayed in a twin on room only basis, so no breakfast included, and there's no catering facili...

Spend 10 days in Algarve The staff are very polite, funny and helpful especially Rui, Marta and Bela with who we had a lot of fun and excellent service. The food was always delicious and perfect drinks were served at the hotel.
There are few nice beaches located 15min walking away would recommend Gale which is the closest one and Praia dos Pescadores near by the Old Town.
I would recommend this hotel and guarantee you will like it... it's not a boring 5 stars but it's a simple and friendly place. I will miss Algarve and also this unforgettable holiday.
Thank you Torre Velha staff for the great time!

I had a great time here. 4 days of escapism on my own to read, sunbathe, and unwind.

The hotel is a little dated in style but serves perfectly well for simple needs at a bargain price. The room was immaculate, and the shower looked old but was brilliantly powerful. The hotel feels very relaxed, the staff are very friendly, and the food ranges from simple (burgers and fries) to wonderful evening specials (chargrilled meats and salads).

The location is not to everyone's taste as it is a bus ride away from the town and its many bars and shops. Instead it is in a quiet area, but the larger hotel next door has an ATM, and a shop for food, drinks, souvenirs, etc. Also the hotel sits right on a small road to the beach and there is very little between the pool area and the street pavement. But a 3 minute walk down the street takes you right to one of the many little beaches nestled in amongst the cliffs. You can wander through the scrub and cliff edges to the next beach and the next and the next. Many of the beaches have cafés/restaurants with free wifi. I must recommend Evaristo beach for having one of the finest seafood restaurants I have ever experienced (and I've tried a few!). A glass-walled restaurant right on the beach, that gets caught in the sunset, with 5-star service and food.
It is worth noting that the hotel advertises free wifi in public areas, but this does not include outside by the pool (or your room of course). It only extends from the reception to the inside bar area (which is quiet dark so not too appealing during the day) and if you're lucky, the edge of the inside restaurant area.
I would definitely return as it is clean, simple, and relaxed. And it is a moments walk to many lovely little beaches.

We stayed in Torre Velha in May 2013 and loved it! The staff were friendly, the hotel was clean and the food was excellent. We booked B&B with the intention of having evening meals in some of the local bars and restaurants but the meals were so good and reasonably priced that we stayed at the hotel most nights. The hotel is situated in a nice quiet area and is only a short walk from two beautiful beaches. If you're okay with hills, there are some lovely scenic coastal walks. Albufeira town is only 3 miles away which can be walked or is about 7 Euros in a taxi. There are two small supermarkets in the area, one of which has an ATM. Rooms have a fridge, TV, fan, heater and hair dryer but no kettle so you may want to consider taking a travel kettle. Transfers from Faro airport take about an hour. We booked our transfers through Monarch and they were a good price and hassle free. Every guest that we spoke to had been to Torre Velha before and after receiving such great, friendly service ourselves I can say that we will definitely be going back again.

Ive stopped here twice, Sept 2011 and in May 2012 and hoping to stay again during 2013.
We booked cheap ryanair flights to faro airport. It takes about an hour via taxi to transfer, quite costly. On our second visit we booked a hire car which was a similar cost to taxi transfer and allowed us to explore more!
The hotel itself is in a quiet location, with a couple of bars and restaurants 5 mins away. There is a fantasic beach 5 mins walk away.
We found the hotel to be good value for money, the rooms were ok, staff were nice and the small pool is nice to relax by.
So overall good value for money but dont expect busy, busy. This is more a quiet, chilled location!!!
