“Lovely, restful, friendly and quiet”
Reviewed 3 August 2009

Travelled with a friend - 2 x 40-somethings wanting to escape and relax - and we managed to do just that. The complex is small and very well maintained. We expected a basic holiday, but would say it is far better than basic. Not 5 star, but has everything we needed, very clean, with sheets and towels being changed during the week. There are a couple of small supermarkets nearby and you can get everything you need there. Some have recommended bringing an electric kettle, but we found the electric cooker ring worked OK with the provided kettle once we realised you turn it the opposite way to the intuitive direction... We walked to the next village along the coast and found people selling oranges and strawberries from their gardens - delicious and much cheaper than the shops! Local restaurants varied; we saved the most expensive (still not excessive) Piri-Piri for the last night; very good food and service was excellent. A bus trip to Albufiera is worth doing; be aware you can only buy single, one-way tickets. Trips to markets are on Tues and Weds, but because we arrived late on a Tuesday, we missed both. The two pools in the complex are lovely, warm and quiet, though probably not so later in the school holidays. Take plenty of books; after a few trips up and down the coast, without your own transport there is not much easily accessible. However, we had a great time, would definitely recommend to others and even plan a return visit.

Had a lads holiday here with two other friends (we are all in our early 20s). It was very clean- the maids came most days. The apartment on the whole was a good size and comfortable; we had a studio room and there was plenty of room for the three of us. We had a first floor room with a nice balcony and ground floor apartments have a small patio area. There were a few issues with the room however. The beds were not particularly comfortable and there was a bad rotting smell that lingered thorughout our weeks stay. Opposite the apartments was a house with dogs that seemed to bark constantly, even throughout the night making us think twice about opening the windows (we ultimately hired a fan).

The rest of the accomodation was good. There were 2 relatively small pools and a tennis court. A small bar/ restaurant served decent food at a cheap price, although it did not appear to offer much in the way of evening entertainment. Place is suitable for children although the kids club did not appear to be very lively. The staff were very friendly and helped us arrange a trip to the Aqualand water park which was great fun.

The main issue to be had with the place is the location; there is very little in the way of restaurants and evening entertainment nearby. On the flip side this meant thep lace was rather peaceful and relaxing, particularly at night. There are a few shops and restaurants a 5 minute walk away yet would not really suffice for a night out. The beach is a good 20 to 25 minute walk away and there was not always adequate pavement so we did have to walk on the road at times. The apartments do offer a free shuttle service to the nearby beach, however this is only at certain times, not giving you much flexiblity. We hired bikes for around 85 Euros for 3 days and this made seeing places much easier. It was a 20 to 25 minute bike ride to Vilamoura which is much more up market and definitely worth a visit with its nice restaurants, mariner and beach. Albufeira was a longer ride of about an hour and the beach we visited there was very busy although there were rocks which were great for exploring. I'd definitely recommend hiring some form of transport otherwise bus/coach/taxi fares will really mount up.

Would recomment but be expected to travel for beaches/ restaurants etc

Stayed here in June, had a bit of a nightmare finding it but that was my fault which you probably won't suffer if you visit the website prior to travel. Straight away met with very friendly and professional service. All in all the rooms, grounds, pool, bar etc. were very clean and well maintained. It is about 10 minutes from the beach and there is a free mini bus which runs twice daily (not Sunday). Food on site is nice, not gourmet but not bad and there are a couple of bars restaurants and supermarkets a short walk away. *IT IS NOT FOR YOU IF YOU WANT TO BE IN THE HEART OF ALL THE ACTION* but is only a 10minute drive to the heart of the action so if you don't mind getting a taxi or if you have a hire car then its great. Its very well situated if your up for visiting all the sites of southern portugal as well as having enough facilities on site if you fancy a lazy day. Nice pools, nice atmosphere, great for families and those wanting a base for sightseeing, I had a fantastic time in this small, intimate yet well equipt resort. Only downside was the sofa beds wern't very comfotable. Rooms were not 5 star but had everything you need. All things considered, great!

This was my first experience of a package holiday and I was very pleased with the choice. Upon arriving outside the apartments the first thing you notice is the white washed buildings and flowers, they were so cute. We had a full apartment rather than the studio as other reviews suggested that the fridge was noisy. What an apartment it was huge for two people and very clean. Our apartmet was near the quiet pool. The beach was a long walk or a free bus ride, but the return trip only happened at certain times. The area the hotel was situated as very quiet and there was only a couple of resturants. Pateo du Golf was one of the best! Take a trip into albuferia's old town for more resturants and just a nice evening.
One final thing was the sprinklers, I don't know if it still happens but during the night they switched the sprinklers on at various times and one night it woke us up as the jet of water hit the window! Scared the life out of us!

Basic rooms but spacious.Although described as self catering-it was quite hard to make a meal on the 2 ring hob!We only ate at in once!Didnt sample the food at the bar.
There was a kids club but dont think it was up to much. The bar was quite pricey, but ok for a quick drink. There was usually an act on(the magician was very funny).Staff were pleasant and would help with anything you asked.
Unless you love being at the pool every day,I would reccomend you hire a car.We had a car for 2 weeks and went to 22 beaches all of which were gorgeous!!!
Not keen on Montecherro-bit like Blackpool. But Albefuira old town is nice.
You must try the Portugese dish of cataplanta..We had never had it before-its fantasic!!!Lots of shellfish in a big copper pot...yum yum.

I have just returned from a weeks holiday in Vale de Carros with my daughter. We had a fantastic time, the apartments are clean and met our requirements. The maids came in almost every day. The staff were very friendly, the prices in the bar were very reasonable and the food is good. It is a bit of a distance to the main towns but for 5euros you can book a trip with Pride of Place Autos to Albufeira, I reccommend the old town for some shopping or the beach for a swim in the sea. You can also book other trips with them at very reasonable prices e.g gypsy market and the largest marina in Europe for 10 euros They are across the road from the supermarket just next to Debbie'z bar ( which I also reccomend). Also give Nelson's bar across from the hotel a try, from the outside it looks a bit grotty but is ok inside .

The only downside to the holiday was the fact that we had our apartment broken into on the last night. They gained entry by removing the beading from a pane of glass on the patio door. This was the only night we did not close the external shutters. I have to say the Staff, Renato and his father ( sorry but I did not get his name) were just fantastic they took us to the police station to fill in the report about what was stolen, then a couple of hours later took us back when the police caught the theives and returned some of our belongings. I have to say I was very impressed by the police, someone had seen the theives driving away, taken a note of the registration and the police were able to trace the car very quickly. Dont be put off staying in the apartments because of this as realistically this can happen anywhere in the world and frequently does, just be very security conscoius.

I will have no hesitation staying there the next time I go to Portugal and once a again want to thank Renato and his father for everything they did for us see you next year.

On arrival at the accommodation we were ushered into another room as our apartment was not ready. The reception staff told us to “leave our cases there an go an sit in there” we sat in the bar area for an hour where we had something to eat, this was ok but very basic.
The apartments are extremely basic. We have just returned from a week’s holiday with our grandchildren (11 & 6) on 12th July 2009. When we booked the holiday we were told that there was plenty of entertainment for the children, this consisted of (can’t be described as anything other than a hut). All it had in was a dart board, tv and board games. The tv was there to play films on which as a result we had to find a member of staff to put it on for the kids. The pool area was clean, although we got frowned up on by taking young children into the big pool, both my grandchildren can swim so didn't see why they couldn't go in. Isabella was an extremely helpful member of staff who tried to help out as much as possible.
On arrival we were surprised to how far away we were from anything else, its says the accommodation details say it’s in Albuferia we thought this should state (no-where near) to say it’s in the middle of nowhere would be an understatement. Self catering was impossible with the two heated rings which didn’t heat up to the same temperature. Everything was available at an extra cost, toaster 10 euros a week, electric kettle 10 euros a week, tv remote control 10 euros deposit which you got 5 back at the end of our holiday. There was no microwave in the room, and were told that this would be at an extra charge too, we didn’t bother. The beds were like boards to sleep on. The one thing I can say is that the towels were cleaned every other day and bed sheets once a week, which was fine.

We felt that the accommodation should be more catered towards 18-30 groups and not families with young children. We wouldn’t recommend this accommodation to any of our friends or family. If anything we would tell them to stay away.

When we booked the apartments we were told that there was a curtsey bus available to take us to the next beach (Falesia) which is a nice beach, it only had one café at the top the steps which was reasonable. The bus was free but had to be booked the day before unless you couldn’t get onto it, so instead it just sits outside the accommodation entrance. The bus to Albuferia you were charged for, and it dropped you off on the outskirts of town, at the bus depo which resulted in us having to get a free shuttle bus into the actual town. We were told to take advantage of taxi’s but if you can - don’t book them through the hotel as they automatically get a 3 euro commission on each taxi ride. What ever you don’t try to walk to the beach if you have young children with you, it’s far too dangerous! We ate out a lot a the top of road which was about a 15 minute walk away from the complex, they are nice and friendly restaurant with helpful staff. If you are after a holiday in the middle of nowhere then take advantage of this accommodation. It would be recommended that you hired a car, but by doing this you take you live into your own hands; to say they drive mad is another understatement!

Albuferia town itself is lovely, the town itself is buzzing and we were told had excellent night life.

We booked through sunmasters as a last minute thing. Would reconsider next time to check out other people's reviews properly and not go off what the tour operator says. We did check on several webpages what other people had said before actually booking it, the tour operator told us that the accommodation had great reviews and had everything we would need, but while we were away my daughter came across up-to-date reviews that basically said the same as what we have!!! Too late then when actually there.
