“absolute bliss for romantic couples”
Reviewed 11 July 2011

we travelled with thomson, transfered from airport by minibus due to narrow roads in praia de gale which was a bonus for us. on arrival to the hotel we were greeted with green tea with lemon and cold damp flannels to freshen up and very friendly staff.
Then our second floor, pool view room was clean, modern and peaceful and exceeded our expectations. We then ordered room service to top up our tummies which was very timely and gorgeous (good variety on the menu, however lacking a pizza).
We ate in the hotels restaurant once, which was very nice. I had mushroom risotto which was yummy! we also enjoyed wine from the vila gale's companies very own vine yard which was tastey and good price (however first bottle free). We only ate once in the restaurant as we found it expensive and limiting as i am fussy with meats and dislike fish, however this was the case across other restaurants in the area. there are a hand full fo restaurants in walking distance, however for those who dislike or would prefer a change from fish and meat, there was a modern pizza/italian called he lighthouse which we recommend highly.
We enjoyed the peace and quiet by the pool many days, soaking up the sun and enjoying a freshing dip in the pool, with afternoon drinks it was prefect. Drinks in the hotel and area are expensive, ie small coke cola is 2.50e, large water 3.50e. we recommend going to supermarket which is a five minute slow walk.
The spa was devine, however was disappointing as there is a fee to use facilities of 5e before 3pm and 10e after 3pm. However, if you book and have treatment you can use the spa free that day which we did. We had a romeo and juliet full body massage which was perfect to aid relaxation and destress, however, costly but worth every penny. Hotel stayers get 20% off spa treatments.
We also booked a great boat cruise for the day via the rep, and it was like paradise! we were taken to a small sucluded beach were we had a bbq and seen some dolphins :)
Overall, our holiday was peaceful and perfect for us.We will be going back to vila gale praia in the future and recommend it to any couples...all ages!

Room Tip: All pool view rooms are superb....on 3rd floor there is a sea view also

We just enjoyed an 11-day break at this small and very nice hotel. The whole place is very calm and relaxed. It is located about 5 minutes walk to a great beach and also near to a superb supermarket. The pool area is quiet and tranquil. We stayed on a half-board basis and the dining room is well run by the very efficient Philip (Head Waitor) and his team. The food is very well presented with good attention to detail. We did have a slight issue with the gym which was too hot due to a problem with the aircon. However, the manager arranged for us to use the gym at the much larger sister hotel nearby. We would like to express our thanks to the manager of the health club at this other hotel (Joao Sousa) he was alway very welcoming and efficient. All together my wife and I had a super stay. By the way the rooms are very nice and kept very clean. Well done to the staff who were always friendly and helpful.

We stayed here for the first 3 days of our honeymoon and had a very nice, relaxing time. The hotel is a short stroll to a very good beach and a handful of restaurants. The staff were very helpful with restaurant recommendations and driving directions to local sights. The pool area was not particularly spectacular, but was quiet and met our needs just fine. We ate at the restaurant the first night and were pleasantly surprised by the sophistication of the food. A little pricey, but pretty tasty. The hotel is across the street from the Vila Joya restaurant, which we also ate at -- a truly wonderful culinary experience if you're willing to spend $700 for dinner for two.

One drawback of the hotel location is that it's surrounded by vacation condo complexes, which at the time, seemed mostly empty and kind of creepy. The hotel itself lacks a little bit of character -- the beds are awfully hard and the rooms are carpeted an odd mauve color. Overall, though, it was a pleasant, quiet stay.

We explored up and down the Algarve and I can't express how much we appreciated landing at the Hotel Vila Gale. So much to choose from in the Algarve; from the overpriced, the good, bad, and ugly, and we felt blessed by our pinpoint accuracy! Very relaxing and tranquil, in fact, very quiet. The atmosphere promoted by the hotel, and respected by the guests. The hotel was nearly full, but I suspect the time of year outside and around the hotel may play a part in how quiet, but then again probably not much. Such good value, and located far away from the edgy tourist saturated Albufeira, which may/may not be worth an evening visit for dinner and drinks. But that's how we like it. Gloria and her fellow staff were welcoming and accommodating. Spa, gym, pool and well appointed bar, were just what we needed. 2 minute walk (literally) down to one of the most beautiful and scenic stretches of beach east and west. 3 restaurants/cafes/bars (depending on time of day) and all three offered a varied menu and style. All perfectly placed for stunning sunset views. Across the road from the hotel is the magnificent 5* Villa Joya Hotel where the maitre d' was kind enough to let us have a night cap a la "regional wine tasting" (exorbitant, but in the light of a full-moon, hovering just above the beach: priceless). We would go back to Vila Gale.

Room Tip: request 1st floor overlooking the pool

This was our second visit to this peaceful spot , many of the staff had changed but the level of service , the comfort and the best of food was still first rate.
On arrival we were welcomed with a cool glass of iced tea while our checkin was completed with the minimum of fuss.
We took a room with a balcony overlooking the pool - the benefit of this is not only a better view but the fact that the evening sun bathes this part of the hotel and it makes an ideal spot to enjoy a glass before you eat in the evening makes it worthwhile.
The rooms are very comfortable , the bed is large - the bathroom well equipped - a power shower over the bath - plenty of thick white towels - bath robe and gels. A safe and small fridge are included along with a hair dryer - if you wish you can also borrow DVDs to watch in you room. The public area includes a pool table and a well mixed library. There are two tennis courts.

It is very peaceful , a mix of age groups all apparently looking for - chill time Plenty of sunbeds around the pool although the water in the pool does take your breath away as you surface for the first time.
Food is excellent whether you want a sandwich at the pool or a three course meal in the evening - breakfast is fab - everything you could ask for , with a wide variety of fresh pastries every morning. We had a couple of evening meals during our stay - the service was smooth , the food whether meat or fish spendid. The wine white , red or rose very drinkable and fairly priced.
Remember to sign up for the Vila Gale card - it is worth a discount of 10% on just about everything - maybe not the spa.

We did not visit the spa but many folk seemed to enjoy it.

I enjoy visiting this part of the Algarve , the beach is only five minutes away , there are a number of small simple beach bars , eateries there where you can enjoy fresh fish or some salads over a glass of beer or wine. There is also a large Appolonia supermarket ten minute walk away that has a fantastic selection of ports , and anything else you may wish.

We don't normally return to places - there are so many sights still to be seen - this place was our exception - and we could go back again.

A final word it is - quiet.

Stayed there recently and it is an oasis in our modern hectic world. Staff very friendly and the place exudes class and is a very tranquil place to stay. Dont go looking for late night music or loads of stuff to do, but very close to beautiful beach and some lovely restaurants within 1 km eg Jompra and Sao Domingo. Hope to return again next year

Just got back from a long weekend at this hotel and would absolutely recommend it if you want a quiet, relaxing, modern hotel in the Algarve.

The good:
- Very quiet and relaxing
- Large, modern rooms with new bedding, individual balconies, good (self-controlled) air conditioning. I think the large room is key - so rare in Europe!
- Walking distance (150 metres) from the beach - two places that rent sunbeds (one day we paid 5 euros, one day 6) and a public beach in between
- Two restaurants down at the beach - also good for lunch and drinks (just average food)
- Food at the restaurant was surprisingly good - my friends had the steak with port sauce, and the tortellini with fish, and I had the buttered fish with pesto - the meals were better than mine, but all were good, and dessert was also good
- Pool is quite large, and has plenty of sunbeds (at least in May)
- The spa - massages, jacuzzi, sauna, turkish baths
- Large common area (including billiards/snooker table - not sure which) and library with plenty of paper back books to borrow
- Front desk staff were friendly, but not terribly helpful on restaurants (more on that later)
- Breakfast and dinner staff were very attentive and helpful
- Breakfast was a pretty good spread - 4 different kinds of fruit, 5 cheeses, meats, scrambled eggs, sausage pies, hard boiled eggs, 5 kinds of juice, yogurts, and at least 10 different bread choices (if not more) - crooissants, toast, rolls, sweets -- it also lasts until 11, which is nice when you want to sleep in

The average:
- Bathroom towels could be a bit nicer, but still fine.
- I've had better showers in my life, but still hot and good water pressure
- The gym is pretty basic (one treadmill, one bike, one stairmaster, some freeweights) and a bit stuffy
- Lighting in the rooms. Definitely energy-saver bulbs - quite dark at night
- There is a computer, but you have to pay for wi-fi access - I think 2 or 3 euros a day
- The bar itself is fine (6 euros for most fruity-girly-drinks), but the atmosphere is weird - as you can see in the hotel pictures, they have these models with yoga-style poses with nude underwear - very large, an a little unsettling (and the music was a little weird)

The key thing to know about this hotel is that there isn't much else around other than what I've described - Albufeira is a 10-15 euro taxi ride away. This was fine for us, as we'd rather be able to walk to/from beach on our own time, clean up, and then go into dinner, but it does make for a very low-key experience. This was fine for us, but if you are a party animal, then look elsewhere.

Albufeira - Personally, we didn't feel like we were missing much being far away - it was toursity and people keep heckling you to come to their restaurant. We were happy being in our hotel area.

Airport - Highly recommend booking your transfer from the airport ahead of time. We paid 35 euros for a prompt, clean people-mover with a driver who knew where to go, whereas our friend took a taxi and paid 55 euro for a guy that had to ask directions (he did stop the meter). We used http://www.farotaxi.com/albufeira.htm and would use them again. Note that they require 24 hours notice.

So, in short, while a little room for improvement, would definitely recommend it if you want a quiet hotel close to the beach!
