Having the hotel recommended by tripadvisor l booked a week at the Hotel Vila Gale Praia at the beginning of May. On arrival l was warmly welcomed by a member of staff. On inspection of my room, l found it very chic, with a contemporary feel along with soft lighting and balcony. Pool area was very clean and gardens well looked after, pool was very cold. Beach only 400 yards away and 2 miles of soft golden sand, most of which was near deserted. Gale is a very quiet area, ideal for a lazy relaxing holiday, highly recommend hiring a car and exploring surrounding towns and villages. Breakfast is a buffet affair, which is good with a reasonable choice. However lunch or dinner is far from great, to be honest it's a big negative, and very expensive. There are 3 restaurants on the beach which are slightly better, but a little expensive. Apolonia supermarket, a few hundred yards away is excellent for quality and choice. If the hotel is to hold on to the top spot it must improve the food dramatically.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a week in April. Overall, we liked this hotel because it is a quiet spot in the upmarket area of Gale. There is a beautiful beach just yards from the hotel and there are 3 places to eat including a nice fish restaurant. I would definitely recommend taking a wander to the beach for some lunch or popping to the nearby posh supermarket Apolonia as the hotel food is pretty dire. We had lunch once and dinner once and that was enough!! The dinner was especially disappointing with poor cooking charging London prices and barely enough food to feed a child. My husband is a strapping chap and after ordering the sea bass with veg and potatoes was presented with a watery fillet with just one potato sliced up and three pieces of tomato all for nearly £20.00. The lunches too were pricey and unappetising. On the plus points the staff are quite friendly and happy to help but they are all quite young and sometimes come across as being inexperienced.
We had a car for the week and I would strongly recommend this as it is difficult to get around without one, there is a real lack of public transport and I find taxis very impractical. This is especially true if you want to tour the Algarve region and have a look around. We visited Portimao which is a bit grimey and was everything was shut on a Saturday but had a nice waterfront. Lagos is a traditional Portugeuse town which some lovely buildings and some curious shops. Albufeira seemed very trashy to us although some have said the old town is nice. Use the car and go to the hypermarket on the main road from Gale. There are also some nice shops at this retail place. We stocked up on drinks and snacks as the hotel were charging so much for them...believe it or not they even charge for ice! A gin and tonic will set you back £10.00.
While we were staying at Villa Gale we noticed another hotel across the road called Vila Joya my husband and I had the most wonderful dinner here at this gorgeous moorish villa. If you fancy a blow-out dinner and a night to remember get a table here. It's quite swish and don't look at the price but if you want a Michelin starred dinner at one of the best reaturants in Europe go here!
Overall we liked it here, it is quiet and chilled-out and free from screaming children but we resented paying over the odds for bad food and drink. The rooms are a nice size all with balconies but the beds were a little hard to feel totally cosetted. We were lucky with the weather and some days had 30c in the sun. Would we return? Probably not but we would definitely stay at Vila Joya across the road it was out of this world!

My husband and I stayed here for a week at the end of April. We had a lovely time and found the atmosphere very laid back and unobtrusive. Rooms were very comfortable and clean and the pool area was gorgeous.

Unfortunately the hotel is let down by the choice of food on offer. Breakfast was buffet style and although limited you could usually find something you fancied, the 'English' selection was awful, but they had lots of lovely pastries, fruit and yoghurt to choose from and would make toast if you asked for it.

The biggest problem was lunch and dinner, which we thought very expensive and not particularly interesting! We only ate in the restaurant for dinner once and tended to use the fantastic local supermarket (Appolonia) to buy supplies and make up our own lunch. There are a couple of nice restaurants on the beach if you want fresh fish but for any kind of choice you would need to get a taxi into the Old Town.

The local beach was lovely and a nice way to spend the afternoon, all in all a nice quiet place for a short break.

My wife and I visited this hotel for four nights on late April 2009. We selected it following the many positive reviews we found on TripAdvisor and other web sites. Having visited we can only say that the other reviews were spot on. This hotel is an absolute gem. Being adults only one expected it to be fairly peaceful but it was tranquility beyond anything we have ever experienced before in many visits to the Algarve. Everything about this hotel ticks the right boxes if you are looking for quality, cleanliness, superb staff, peaceful location and serious attention to detail. If this is what you are seeking, then book now and you wont be disappointed.

Only one small factor was a little annoying:- Whilst the "boutique" style decor is simply wonderful, the shower screen in the bathroom is sadly too small. Unless you stay perfectly still in the shower it is impossible not to create puddles on the bathroom floor. However, this will in no way stop us from returning and we are already planning our next visit.

FIVE out of FIVE for EVERYTHING!

The hotel is beautiful. Room was large and very tastefully dcorated with a full complment of amenities. Breakfast was included and was a fully loaded buffet, something for everyone. Very very close to beautiful beache with many small caves that kids could play all day and never get bored. Dinner and service at the hotel was phenomenal. So good, we ate their the second night as well. Some of the best meals we had on our 8 day adventure. It was outside of town, and a rental car is needed if you are doing any sightseeing at all.

My husband and I came for our 2nd wedding anniversary and the service was just the same as when came here 4 years before. The service is amazing, nothing is too much trouble. The staff are friendly, polite and ready to give advice about the local area. As we stay before, the following morning we were welcomed back and congratulated on being married-This was a nice touch. Breakfast is great, because there's so much choice. The a la carte menu is just so good, the same quality as upmarket restaurants in London. The barman makes the best Margaritas ever tasted. Rooms are spacious, clean and have good internet connection. The beach at Gale, is so beautiful and full of local families. You can walk along to other local beach. There are 3 cafes on beach, all from which you view the sunset. There are other places to eat and supermarket around 15-20mins walk from the hotel. A car is recommended if plan to explore, the bus service is abit unreliable. This hotel gives all you need to chill out and have peaceful holiday.

This hotel was simply fabulous for a totally chill out holiday. We stayed for a week at the beginning of October arriving in a storm and thinking....oh no. The receptionist said that the weather was likely to remain that way for 3 more days ....oh no. However, the next morning.....bliss. Sun, fabulous view of the beach/sea/pool and it remained like that for the rest of our stay. Tiny problem when we went to breakfast in that the dining room had been flooded, however, all guests were driven round to their sister hotel a couple of minutes away and catered for there. Breakfast there was fine, similar to Albacora in Tavira where we stayed in March, loads of choice, lots of families but staff ensured everyone was catered for, so we couldn't complain. However, the following morning when we took breakfast in our hotel we realised just what we had missed the day before. The atmosphere was so relaxed, breakfast choice was of far superior quality, and the staff discreet yet 100% attentive to everyone's needs. It really showed just how different being a couples only hotel can be for ...well couples. Throughout our stay the level of service from all staff was exemplary.
We think the fact that the hotel manager, Margarida Antunes, maintained a visible presence and indeed organised an informal meeting for an hour one evening available to any guests who cared to join her, refelcted the the high standards of client service that are available at this wonderful hotel. We have never before stayed in an hotel where the manager was seen regularly and the meeting, whilst only attended by British guests (maybe we feel an obligation to attend something to which we've been invited!) appeared to be appreciated by others as much as ourselves.
As with another reviewer we didn't feel the need to hire a car - for a week there is plenty to do within the locale and the hotel offers a complimentary bus service to link you up to Albufeira. We walked a lot - there's so much lovely beach and yes the walk to Armacao de Pera takes a while but when you're on holiday you have the time. We went to Zoomarine in a taxi - cost about 12 euros each way - fabulous shows on there with all the animals, the marine shows were particularly spectacular.
Everything else has been said by other reviewers and photos posted are so similar to ours that I won't add to these.
If you're looking for something special that doesn't cost the earth this is it....just go
