“A Fantastic Holiday!”
Reviewed 31 May 2009

Myself, Fiancee and my two best friends have just got home from what was a lovely holiday. We chose to stay at the Paraiso because of the good reviews etc. I must say we were not disappointed! We were greeted on arrival by pleasant staff and the entrance to the hotel is very grand, it was clean and bright. We stayed in a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment and although we asked for a pool view we unfortunatley didnt get it, but the room made up for that!

When arriving in the room we couldnt believe how big it was, there was ample space in the bedrooms and bathrooms and the kitchen/lounge area was huge! We didnt eat at the hotel so cant comment on the food in the restaurant. One tip would be to grab a sun lounger early as it did get quite busy around the pool area during the day.

The cleaners were very thorough and came everyday, they even did the dishes for us on one occasion! On albufeira as a whole I would definatley recommend visiting the Old Town rather than the strip, even though my group are all in our early 20s we far preferrerd the hustle and bustle of the old town, the bars there are brilliant!

Overall I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a relaxing week in the sun!

my husband myself and my teenage brother have just got home from our holiday to paraiso de albufeira...what a fantastic place! On arrival we were pleasently suprised with the size, cleanliness and overall presentation of this amazing hotel. We found the staff to be very polite and helpful speaking very good English. The apartment was of fantastic size, modern and spotless. The food was prepared lovely though like many places towards the end of the week became repetetive (this was on all-inclusive basis) stunning grounds - with good pool bar (though does get very busy at times with a bit of a wait) Excellant entertainment - thomas cook entertainers - kazza, johny, lee and Kim - comedy legends!! you will be singing the songs and doing the actions for days!! Overall wicked holiday - we recomend it- Give it a go!! xx

travelled with partner and an eight year old and a six month old. Holiday was excellent for families. I thought the hotel was clean, baby changing facilities throughout the hotel. Cleanist toilets i have ever seen situated by a poolside. Didnt get bored with the food on all inclusive as i have in other hotels in the med.

Eight year old enjoyed all the sports activities and the evening kids entertainment. Didnt stay up for the adult shows on after 10 pm !

We stayed in a two-bedroom duplex apartment, located on the 8th floor of the hotel, and it was huge. On entering the apartment there were two twin bedrooms (yes people have complained about not having double beds in this hotel, but how many apartments in Europe have these? I've certainly never had one!) with balcony overlooking the pool area and a good sized bathroom, then upstairs was a large lounge, kitchen and dining area, a room with a single bed in (ideal for storage, wouldn't recommend for sleeping due to the sloping roof and skylight with no blind), a second full bathroom, and a massive roof terrace, again overlooking the pool area. The apartments were well equipped, clean, and well maintained.

Our only issue was the pool, which was freezing despite the weather being very hot. Also, if you are not all-inclusive, you do have to pay for mattresses on the sun loungers every day, and they aren't the comfy without them! And you do have a buy a swim hat if you want to use the indoor pool and jacuzzi, but no one monitors the pool... There does appear to be more additional costs i.e. on the welcome pack it states you will pay an extra 3 euros a day if you want your towels changed more often than 3 times a week, but the maid changed ours every day regardless and we never got charged. Air con is free of charge. The only thing we had to pay for was a 25 euro deposit for a remote control for the TV which we had back on departure.

The hotel is family orientated with a kids club, and childrens activities each evening. There is a small playground by the pool, with Little Tykes equipment. There is also a tennis court, football pitch and mini golf course. The Thomas Cook tour reps do stuff by the pool each day as well. Guests seemed to range from families with young children, to couples, to groups of friends, to stag dos to golfers. Yes, some people were getting up early to reserve their sun lounger, but that's more to do with the guests than down to the apartments.

The hotel is in a great location. Modelos (supermarket) is a couple of minutes walk to the left as you come out of the hotel. The Old Town of Albufeira is approx 10-15 minute walk, again to the left. The Strip, with a good range of bars and restaurants is about the same distance to the right. The beaches are around 15 minutes walk - avoid if you get annoyed easily as the men selling sunglasses (and insisting on asking you if you want some when you are blatantly wearing them) and Chinese girls selling massages does get tiresome after you're asked for the 10th time that morning! The sun loungers are also more expensive than other parts of the Algarve at 12 euros for 2 loungers and an umbrella.

Price wise, you will get a large beer for 2 euros in most bars and restaurants, and a main course for around 10 euros, so not too bad compared to the UK, especially considering the weak euro.

Overall, before the holiday we read quite a lot of negative things about this hotel, but we had a great experience and are looking at returning next year.

Would advise though, NEVER use Holiday Taxis for your airport shuttle transfer - the quoted time is 1 hour transfer. We were sat waiting at the airport for over half an hour for two passengers when the coach was already full, and then spent over 2 hours going via Vilamoura and what felt like going round in circles round Albufeira, with only 1 or 2 people getting off at each hotel. Nightmare journey. We eventually arrived at our hotel over 3 hours after landing, which when you've been up since 3am to get to the airport is not amusing!

The Paraiso on the surface has everything you need for a great holiday. The pool area is excellent, the indoor pool is great, the amenities are great and the location terrific. The rooms are of a good size and the one my family and i had which was a 1 bedroom apartment was more than adequate with a huge bacony.

I think that a few years ago this may have been a great place to stay but the rooms and the restaurant are in need of a makeover.

1. The room. The room size was as good as any we have stayed in and I am used to 5 star luxury when travelling on business. The kitchen area was a good size and well equipped - great for snacking. However, the beds were hard, the sofa beds downright uncomfortable, the tv a mere portable size (although did carry British channels). The bed linen was not the best and the curtains were a bit moth eaten.

2. The food was terrible. It was bland and tasteless. We travelled with a 4 year old and he would only eat sausages, ice cream, cheese and biscuits. There was no variety and the food tended to be the same every night. i am coeliac and so couldnt eat any of the puddings on offer and one night had to ask for them to grill me some fish because i couldnt eat anything on offer in the buffet (that took 30 minutes to arrive). Had we been all inclusive for 2 weeks it would have driven me mad having to eat the same food for 2 weeks. Note to the hotel: there may be a lot of Brits but we like some flavour, we dont all want the flavoured boiled out of our food and we like different cultures so some spice, or meditarrean influences would have been good. breakfast - in 7 days there was bacon only twice. what is a cooked breakfast without bacon!

We enjoyed the week and my 4 year old loved the activities particularly the evening entertainment. We would return if only they would do something about the food on offer. Albufeira itself is a great destination and I just loved the old town.

We stayed at this hotel for a week in May 10-17. The first impression that you get is the large size - I'm not sure how many rooms there are multiple lifts that go to differents of the floors which is initially confusing. This made it feel like more of business hotel rather than a holiday hotel. Intenet access as €50 per week is a rip off

We chose the self catering option - the apartment we had was OK, there is a small 2 ring electric oven which is a bit slow but otherwise OK. The bathroom was spotlessly clean, as was the rest of the Hotel . The apartment overlooked the pool side of the hotel which was better than overlooking the car park/road on the other side. I found the noise level quite high - the corridors echoed the sounds the the hard floors made the ceilings noisy - we have a 4 yr old and go to bed moderately early.

The pool side was OK, it was a bit cold to swim in but that is due to the early season. We had to buy swim caps (€3.80 each) from the hotel to use the indoor pool. The purple one that we bought for our child leached purple dye so be aware of that.

The holiday reps and kids club were excellent - they were enthusiastic and engaging and having a couple of free hours in the afternoon added to the holiday experience

We didn't eat at the Hotel other than the occasional ice-cream. We were offered the all inclusive option on arrival (€40 per Adult. €20 per child) but didn't take this as we prefer to eat out for breakfast/dinner which probably cost us a little less. I guess if you want to lie by the pool all day and eat/drink a lot then the AI option is worthwhile, but for us eating out is part of the holiday.

The hotel is about 15min stroll from the main strip area and 20mins from the beach (down a steep hill). The strip is pretty much like any mostly british destination with UK run resturants serving publike food, I'm no foodie so its was fine for me but nothing cultural. I felt the whole area was overbuilt.

We spent a day at Zoo marine which was a great day out for us (in particular our 4 yr old) - go on a weekday for shorter queues - we took a taxi from the hotel €13-15) rather than booking through the holiday reps (entry is €24). We just wanted the flexibility to come and go as we please.
