“Great location, great value!”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

I stayed here for a week with my partner in a 1-bedroom pool view apartment and we were more than happy with it!
The apartment was a fantastic size for the two of us, loads of room, good sized balcony, kitchen had everything we needed.
The room was cleaned/beds made etc. every day and towels changed every other day, the air con worked very well (also as a heater as it was a bit chilly one night!) and there was a free code-activated safe in the bedroom which was a great bonus for peace of mind for our passports, tickets etc.
The pool was lovely and a nice size, reception was open 24hrs and everyone was helpful & friendly, they were happy for us to leave our luggage for safe keeping once we checked out in the morning as our flight wasn't until later in the day.
We had a hire car & there was plenty of safe parking just outside the front entrance.
Great location close to the beach, they say a 15 minute walk to the Old town but I wouldn't even say it was that far... maybe if you take the scenic route along the beach rather than via the main road. The New town was even closer - the hotel is pretty much smack bang between the two and far enough away from both to be peaceful - Great experience all round!

We stayed at this hotel at the end of May 2014. Booked it due to its location and for this reason it was a great choice. Everything was within walking distance, max 15 min to Old Town, the Strip, the supermarket. If you don't fancy walking you can go around by little train, children loved it or by taxi.
So the hotel itself is all right, when we arrived we were given our room straight away even it was only 11.30 am. Great service. The appartment was spacious and kitchen very well equipped. It was cleaned daily apart from Sunday, because staff had a day off. When we asked about our full rubbish bin, we been told to empty it ourselves in the bin slightly outside the hotel. Not a big deal but never had to do it in any other hotels:)
As was mentioned in prevoius reviews there was a problem with sun loungers. One day we have to put our towels on the grass and not just us, about 8 other guests, some went to the beach. Taking into the account that the hotel was half empty can imagine what it's gonna be in high season. Also a lot of sun loungers were broken.
During our stay a big group of males arrived, they been drinking a lot of bottled beer, so next day we found a lot of broken glass around childrens pool. There is a note no glass is aloud in the pool area, but staff didn't take any notice of what was happening.
I wouldn't recommend this hotel to families. We had two children aged 10 and 2. They had nothing to do, only few other babies to play with. We went to the beach every day to entertain our older son, so he can run, built sand castles, play ball, the space around the pool is very limited.
Everyday we went out for dinner. The prices are around €40-50 for two main and two kids meals with drinks. Highly recommend Blue Sky family restaurant, great food, service and not expensive.
In overall really enjoyed our holiday, loved the area. Definitely be back to Albufeira, but be staying in different hotel only because of the kids. However this apartment is good for anyone without children. Most of the residents were pensioners or groups in 25-40s.
To get to the hotel from the airport we booked a transfer with Yellow Fish. Very good service and highly recommended.
Visited Zoomarine and Slide and Splash, both very enjoyable experiences. Children loved every minute we spent there. So if you have kids definitely recommend to visit.

The hotel is half way down a side street on a hill which is pretty steep, especially as you go down towards the beach. There are no signs on the main road to tell you where the hotel is but if you see Santa Monica Hotel then that is on the same hill!

As the crow flies, about 10 mins outside Albufera town, it was just finding it in the first place that was a nightmare. Recommend arranging an airport transfer if you are not too keen on driving abroad!

Also, the little touristy train which constantly tours around the beaches and town etc can be found at the top of the hill on the roundabout. Runs by every 20 mins or so.

We visited ZooMarine and the parrot, sea-lion and dolphin shows were so professional and just great entertainment.

We also visited Villamour and enjoyed the Family Golf Park - must be the most upmarket crazy golf anywhere. Brilliant.

Clube Oceano apartment spotless, spacious and with perfectly adequate kitchen facilities. Lovely big sun-catching balcony with furniture and drying stand. Great view to the sea. Baby pool and big swimming pool lovely.

Didn't dine in hotel as prefer to get out and about and try different restaurant - and there are loads to choose from all around. Meal portions in Portugal seemed huge to me but all food excellent.

Room Tip: We were on 4th floor on the Right wing of the hotel as you walk into reception. Had great views and...

Arrived early and met with pleasant reception staff who checked us in and stored bags until our room was ready. Our first floor room was actually below reception which is level 2 and was only a few feet above and from the children's pool making the huge balcony useless as a quiet place to relax. We asked for a room on a higher floor but were advised there were no other rooms available so settled in as best we could.
The studio was a great size and the kitchen was well equipped - toaster, microwave, 4 hob + oven. Even a tea towel was provided (perhaps because there is a £50 charge if you leave unwashed dishes on departure) . Large sofa, table and chairs and twin fairly comfy beds. (A constant rattling pipe outside drove me demented but earplugs helped me get to sleep)Bathroom was clean, plenty of hot water and towels replaced daily.
There is no bar at hotel, only a poolside bar which had some soft drinks and a poorly stocked bar - not even a coffee available. So take a travel kettle if you like a tea or coffee. There is bar/cafe nearby but not within hotel itself.
Hotel has free wifi in reception but you have to ask - I only discovered this when I heard another guest using Skype.

Location of hotel is good but it took a day or so to truly get our bearings. Pick up free maps at some of the bars/restaurants on the strip or old town or have a look at freemapsalgarve.com before you go. Tourist train was 4 euros for day ticket and was always busy but we preferred to walk everywhere - although the hills make this a sturdy footwear job!
It's only a few mins to the lovely beach and if you want to visit the old town I'd say a walk along the beach is the easier route than the hills.

Unfortunately a large group of 27 males arrived a few days before I left and I'm sad to say I didn't feel the hotel dealt very well with the disruption they caused. I don't expect a family hotel to permit the drinking of cases of bottled beer from 9.45am until 19.15pm at the side of the pool - unruly behaviour, foul language and broken glass is not my idea of a holiday...... We couldn't use the pool, or balcony and had to shut the sliding doors every time we were in the room. I'm not averse to a drink by the pool or people having a laugh even if it gets a bit wild but this was altogether out of order! Come on Clube Oceano don't accept bookings of this sort unless you are willing to deal with troublemakers and lose decent clients.....

So, would I return? Only if I could have a higher room and be assured that no such large groups would be allowed to ruin others holidays...

Room Tip: Higher room might be quieter?

I stayed there in October shortly before the Club was due to close for the winter. It is I believe due to reopen in March. The apartment with two single beds was spotlessly clean and was serviced daily to a high standard. The kitchen was well eqipped with everything to make simple meals. Staff everywhere were polite, helpful, welcoming and well informed about local services. The Club Oceano was quiet at night and there was a very expansive clean beach just a few minutes walk away. The hotel also has a large swimming pool with sunbeds.Nearby, literally a minute away, there was a selection of bars and restaurants all reasonably priced.
The hotel is about a ten minute walk to The Strip, where the nightlife thrives with clubs, discos and more restaurants. The Old Town is a similar distance and was much more relaxing and atmospheric for a family visit, day or night. I had such a positive experience at the Club Oceano that I will certainly return soon.

Room Tip: Make sure you have an apartment on the first floor or above so that you can see the swimming pool di...

Stayed here end of July and on arrival knew we'd bagged an absolute bargain. The apartment was extremely spacious, clean, food rubbish removed daily and had all amenities associated with self-catering hotels. Hotel situated mid way between old town and the strip, ideal for us as we've stayed near the strip on a previous holiday and knew our way around. A couple of nice bars down the hill for a cooling sea breeze and drink or a leisurely walk to build up a thirst to the strip or old town, the choice is yours. I would highly recommend a couple of restaurants at the roundabout nearby, Tres Palmeiras (stunning quality for the price)and Palacete (get the cheeseboard for dessert). The only downside for us oldies was during the first few days of our stay it seemed like the Dutch 18-25 club had already booked in to the hotel ( surprising as the brochure states it's a family friendly hotel) which meant the pool area was deathly quiet til lunchtime and livened up as the day wore on, and they were obviously a litlle boisterous on their return from their nights out, this did not detract from our overall experience of this splendid hotel. We would definitely book this hotel again but perhaps book it a bit later in the school summer holidays.
