“Wonderful hotel and staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 August 2014 via mobile

This was our first holiday abroad with our 5 year old twin daughters. We chose the hotel due to its location and the standard of the rooms. Many of the hotels we looked at elsewhere offered family rooms at a similar price point that were just that - one room for the adults and children. For this reason we booked the deluxe duplex garden room. This gave a bedroom for the girls on the ground floor and a seperate bedroom upstairs with separate balcony for my wife and I. The hotel, room and staff certainly did not disappoint (I can post some photos of the room if this will help as official online images are not that helpful). We stayed halfboard and lunch and drink prices are reasonable given it is a five star (approx 30 euros for a generous family lunch, wine at 5 euros a glass, bottles from 19 and cocktails at 9). Will not repeat other poositives from other posts (but there are many)

Helpful Tips
1) The rooms have an integrated av system that you can hookup to ypur phone via Bluetooth for streaming). The instructions in the room are pretty poor. To set-up enable Bluetooth pairing on your device, then on the upstairs tv hold down the button on the "Trust" Bluetooth device on front of the tv. Keep holding it while it flashes red and blue . Your device should then show "Trust Wireless" select this to pair. Once paired you then need to go to the A-bus control panel that is on the wall (this was near the light switches for the upstairs bathroom in our room). On this panel then hit the power button quickly four times until your music plays (the power button also serves as an audio source selector). This last bit was not explained anywhere.

2) Walk along the beach to/from Vilamoura. It will take about 40 mind and is a beautiful walk.

3) The sunloungers on the beach do not belong to the hotel. If you only intend to use for a few hours ask for half a day rental. The owners on the beach will not advertise this but it is available.

The bad
The hotel is very modern and quite chic. The hotel therefore attracts some clientel with very high expectations and demands. The staff deal with this well; however, I was not always comfortable with this and I felt that some of the body language and attitudes of the guests did result in a slightly awkward ambience and enforce an insular attitude between the guests (although I must admit I may of been over sensitive to this given it was our first holiday abroad with our young girls).

This hotel is simply amazing. Great location, with a direct descent to the beach and great pools. The design is beautiful, the main lobby breath-taking and the staff very friendly and professional. We had a pool-view room, which was beautiful, and the check-in was done directly from the room, which makes it a lot friendlier. The breakfast in the morning is plentiful and possibly one of the best I ever had. There is absolutely everything, including a chocolate fountain with strawberries and marshmallows that my son absolutely loved. Lunch near the pool is a bit overpriced and dinner in the evening is usually a buffet and, again, we felt quite overpriced, so we ended up going out every evening and tried out a few of the local restaurants both just outside the hotel and in nearby towns (like Vilamoura, which is like the St. Tropez of the Algarve). All these were amazing value and really good quality compared to the hotel, so that is something to keep in mind. Other than that, the hotel is a bit paranoid over the beach towels and goes to extraordinary lengths to make sure you return them every day (or else!), but we loved our stay and will definitely be going back.

Pristine and shiny new, this beautiful hotel brings modern design to a new level. Starting with a lobby that glistens in turquoise and white and rooms that are well appointed and futuristic in style. A staff member takes you on a general tour of the facilities which include a beautiful spa, indoor pool and gym before registering in your room. Rooms are lovely; beds are comfortable with an abundance of storage and a bathroom that is open and centrally located. No room for modesty here, but privacy can be provided with movable walls. Our room had a large balcony with plenty of furniture to enjoy the ocean view.

The grounds and plantings are gorgeous. There are 3 wonderful pools, including one for adults only. The incredible cliffside beach is only steps away, 150 to be exact, so keep that in mind if you have bad knees! The main dining hall has buffets that are plentiful, but average. The poolside dining area is a much better choice and there is a gourmet restaurant open Thursday-Sunday that is pricey and a true experience, but only serve a few tables a night. Staff is young, energetic and helpful, tho recommendations may be geared for younger travelers.

Epic Sana is new, bright, and provides a vacation where you can relax, recharge and take in the beauty of Portugal.

We have stayed in this quiet resort 4 times and decided to stay for a short break of 4 nights. We had only been here a few hours and a quick phone call to cancel our flights and extend our stay by 2 days. This hotel is wonderful and i can only find one small blip but i will get all the positives out of the way first. Positives - The hotel was huge, modern spacious and very relaxing. The room was immaculate cleaned and refreshed with tea/coffee and toiletries. We tried all restaurants including room service. Room service was priced as normal UK prices service was perfect and quality excellent. We informed them we were celebrating and a complimentary champagne and cake was delivered along with the room service a very nice touch ! Breakfast was calm even though this was a busy time for the hotel. The Pool was very good for mid day snacks (if you could eat after the breakfast) we had a meal on the night time and was excellent with fresh oysters and the tuna and sea bass cooked on the barbecue. On the second night we ate in the Gourmet restaurant we hadn't booked but I suggest you do the quality of food was magnificent. We had the fixed menu along with the tasting wine menu with each course. Each course was introduced off our waiters describing the food and where the wine came from. Some people may not like this but it was part of the meal in total a brilliant experience. No hurry for a sunbed plenty to chose from. We had a deluxe double resort view as you receive the sun from around lunchtime to 7-8 o'clock which meant we could just chill out and relax . Bar area was very chic although quiet had some lovely cocktails and some very gin & tonics very good. Now the very very small negative - drink prices . Paid around 13 euros for a gin & tonic it was a very nice gin & tonic but if the hotel maybe reduced the price slightly more people would use the bar which again was very nice..... The staff were all very polite attentive accommodating and very friendly and could not do enough for you. We ordered our taxis in advance for when we wanted to go out as we are familiar with the Portuguese ways and they were always on time . Will we be back Yes without a doubt in fact looking at dates already !

Room Tip: if you want a sunny experience pool side for morning and resort side for afternoon soon I would sugg...

We stayed at the Epic Sana for 1 week at the end of June 2014.
It is a modern hotel set with 8.5 acres of land, much of it landscaped.
The reception area is spacious and attractive.

The Room was of a high standard, with an unusual screened-off bathroom area.
It is tastefully furnished, with space in the min-bar fridge for your own purchases.
The maid was excellent and we were re-stocked with Toiletries promptly.
We had a resort view and had no problems.

The Hotel Staff are all well-trained and aim to please.
The restaurant area is spacious with seating inside and outside.
The staff are very attentive.
The food quality is excellent and the wine reasonably priced.

There are four outdoor pools, not heated and the water does give you a refreshing shock when you get in. At least one pool is Adults only and there are shallower pools for the children.
Towels can be exchanged at the Towel Hut, located between the Adult Pool and the Children’s Paddling Pool. If required, they have a limited number of pillows available, at the Towel Hut.
There is one heated indoor pool, in the Spa / Gym area.

The Bluum Cocktail bar is a nice place for having cocktails or whatever your tipple.
There is also an outside seating for the bar next to an ornate water feature.

Nearby, is the beach, reached by a wooden walkway and there are some steps.
The beach itself is lovely, very picturesque and great for morning strolls. We walked from the Hotel along the beach to Vilamoura, this took approximately 1 hour.
The Taxi back was about 13 euros plus tip.

The local amenities are about 80 metres from the Hotel’s entrance gate.
There are not many shops, but those that are there are of good quality.
Special mentions to the Pizzeria Falesia and the fashion shops.
The supermarket is very reasonable, a lot of the bottles of spirits here were cheaper than at Faro airport.
There is an on-site cash machine, we were not charged a handling fee using a Caxton FX Europe Traveller Visa Card.

The only downside we came across was that it was very quiet in the evening. There aren’t any local bars of note outside the Hotel Complex – some guests took taxis to Albufeira.
The Hotel was only about 25% occupied and even though they weren’t full, there was no offer of a free upgrade.
We asked to use the Steam Room and were quoted 18 euros each, it is only free for Hotel guests between 1200-15:00.

Despite this, the Hotel is lovely and the staff attentive.
If you want Five Star, quiet & relaxing – then this is the place for you.

stay at the sheraton if you are into GOLF or have Kids Under 10. Other than that is the Epic Sana all the way. 1 It's new and fabulous and more suited to teenagers and young trendy adults, the old folks prefer the Sheraton around the corner. 5 swimming pools and they are lightly used….the restaurant is Michelin star style ( they only serve 4 tables at every sitting - seriously !!!!! )…there is a casual pool bar restaurant and its ideal …. this hotel has only downside TAXIS are unbelievable slow and late ( up to 30 minutes). so you arrive at reception and ask for a cab, it's nearly always a 30 minute wait, and then another 30 minutes late, so you wait for 1 hour for a taxi. other guests waiting with you in the lobby. so book early and let them call your room, don't expect them to whizz up the avenue 10 minutes after you ask for a cab. always allow 30 to 60 minutes for normal service. all fine once you know as we say. overall this hotel is TOP NOTCH. Free wifi is good, I have 3 teenagers...

The hotel seemed unseasonably quiet for the holiday season, but you do get the feeling that's going to change. The hotel and the facilities are excellent. The spa is super and averse as I am to using them even I tried and thoroughly enjoyed being 'fixed'! The buffet at the Abyad was varied enough for the whole family. Having chef there in the evening to cook on demand made the difference and the food was excellent! The breakfast though was fantastic. From pastries to omelettes and everything in between.

Falesia beach is easily accessed by a well set out walkway and some wooden steps. But to be honest, the pools were perfect - dragging the kids away was impossible, so why fight it! Little Stars (kids club) was quiet but loads of activities to keep the kids occupied. We needed this holiday as a family and we were not at all disappointed.

The biggest factor though, the people, every single person there were a pleasure to meet and talk to. But more importantly they all engaged with the kids which meant they were settled and enjoyed themselves. Happy kids, happy parents!

I would have no problem recommending it to anyone, it just seems a bit quiet at the minute, if it's your thing, it was ours, then that's not a bad thing so enjoy it while it lasts!
