My wife and I took a last minute trip to Vidamar and were very happy with the resort - the sun shone for the whole time and because the resort was new, we practically had the place to ourselves. Great room, great views, friendly staff, no screaming kids (very relaxing) - we definitely went at the right time :-)

have just returned from a short break to this hotel i can only say that all the comments that i have read are correct , the food was cold ,the spa was not open the pool side bars were not even finished been built,we asked for a top floor room only to be given one on the second and all we could see was palm trees, so we went to the reception and was moved to the top floor with a sea view , we were lucky to get tea and coffee making facilities in our room but was told that if we wanted more milk or coffee it would be 2 euros , have never had to pay for this in other hotels, we was given a vip package on arival and when i asked what this was i was told it was a free bottle of water , the good thing about this hotel was the staff they could not do enough for you , the only thing the manager keeps saying is it was a soft oppening he must have got fed up with all the people asking to see him

Dear Sir
Thank you very much for your comments about the recent experience in our new Hotel.
It's true that some facilities have not been available since it's opening on the 8th of May and others won't still be available until the end of this month and middle of June. The Spa has opened today and yes we've had difficulties with the hot food in the Ocean Buffet until recently; however, that situation has been solved, the hot food temperature in the Ocean Buffet has been between 50-60ºC.
This Hotel offers 4 different types of Double Rooms at 4 different rates; the hotel has beautiful extensive palm gardens and one of the room categories is facing this garden; obviously the Ocean View rooms have the best view.
Anyway, it is also true that we cannot be hold responsible for what any third party website describes and informs about our Hotel; we can only be responsible for our own website www.vidamarresorts.com and the information in it.
We knew from the start that the Hotel was still to be completed and a small number of facilities would not be available; because of this, we've decided to launch a very discounted opening offer to our commercial online partners asking them to clearly inform the clients about the soft opening, to avoid disapointments our negative comments.
I hope you understand our point of view as I fully understand yours and I aplogise for any inconvenience we may have caused.
Thank you.

Just back from a 3 night stay at the unfinished 5 star Hotel. Staff are friendly and very helpful and the room was nice but no tea making facilities, no waste bin,no air extraction in the toilet,no guest guide of things to see and do in the area, certainly not 5 star. The location to a lovely beech was great even though it was remote and the only attraction is a nearby golf coarse.
There is no atmosphere in the hotel and it was like staying in a conference centre. The breakfast was adequate but the evening meal was cold with very little choice so we decided to eat in Albufeira, 15 euro taxi ride away, for the rest of our stay. The only bar was virtually non existent and i do not class a parrot show as 5 star entertainment. I would like to think they will get issues sorted and bring it up to 5 star quality in the future but i would not stay there again.

Room Tip: All rooms are quite because of the location.

Dear Sir,
Thank you for your recent stay in the new Vidamar Algarve Hotel and we appreciate your comments about your experience in the Hotel.
Vidamar Algarve Hotel is a brand new beachfront modern Hotel with contemporary furnishings and atmosphere.
We are open since the 8th of May 2013 and, until the end of the month, we are operating on a "soft opening" mode, which means, some facilities are not yet available and other may experience some service constraints. Because of this, we've decided to open the Hotel by launching a super opening promotion based on very reduced half board rates.
We offer complimentary in the room on arrival, one bottle of mineral water (1lt) and a selection of teas and coffee; we do have a waste bin in the room/toilet and the air-conditionning and air extration is indeed fully operational, it is operated manually in each room according to one's individual needs.
Our front office staff and guest relations is more than happy to assist every Guest about what to do around and about; in the near future, all this information and other services will be available in a digital tablet in every room.
About the evenijg meal in the Ocean Buffet restaurant we did have a problem with a faulty new equipment and the hot food was only lukewarm. This situation is now solved and the food is hot as it should be.
We provide a weekly entertainment programme for adults and children and obviously the parrots show are an extra activity for kids to enjoy.
I'm apologise for any inconvenience we may have caused you and again thank you for your comments.

We are both very well travelled couple and arrived at this hotel on 13th May 2013. Although the hotel is still in the process of completion this did not hinder our stay. The hotel is very impressive and our room was exceptional with a very large bed and a fabulous wet room. The staff were very polite and helpful throughout our stay. the only one negative was the food on the evening in which I raised with the Restaurant Manager as a comment not a complaint, as I felt this could contribute to the future success of this Hotel. Compliments to the RM and the rest of his staff! We look forward to returning in the future, thank you.

Arrived on 14th May expecting a good stay in a five star hotel. Greeted by a warm welcome from staff and our room was superb with a lovely view over pool and the sea.

Went for meal on first night to Ocean restaurant. Food was appalling. No labels to identify anything - had no idea what we were eating. Food was lukewarm to cold. In my opinion it was a food hygiene hazard. They would have failed a health and hygiene inspection in UK.

Following morning we went for breakfast. The presentation was good, cold food was excellent. But again all the cooked items, were cold. The scrambled egg was under-cooked and just luke- warm. On the second day I asked for my eggs to be poached so I knew they would be properly cooked. The staff were all very helpful. We mentioned at reception desk about the food being cold and were advised to try the fish restaurant in the grounds. This was very good but were only allowed 15 E each, so above that we had to pay the extra - despite being half board.

Our final night we again went to the Ocean restaurant. Once again all hot food was lukewarm. We stuck to cheeses and salad. My husband tried what he thought was a cold fish dish in aspic jelly. As it proved inedible we asked what it was and the head waiter told us this was a traditional Portugese dish - raw meat in jelly. Again no labeling, which placed anyone who might have possibly been pregnant at great risk. We asked about the cold food and were informed there was a problem with the hot plates - they were not working properly. In my opinion this should have been rectified on the day of opening. A serious health risk.
There was a great deal of discontent among the other guests. We considered the 2 E a day for 2 teabags and 2 small pots of milk too petty for a 5 star hotel.
I simply don't know where they get their 5 star rating from - cuisine wise it was nearer to 2 star.

Another great omission was any information about what places to see and visit in the nearby Algarve. As the weather wasn't good enough to sit around the pool, and the indoor pool and spa were not open, there was very little for the guests to do,so I found I ended up helping other guests with where to go, because we had stayed in nearby Gale twice before.

A free daily shuttle from hotel into Albufeira would help guests enormously - something again I would have expected with a 5 star hotel.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a pool view room. Other side of hotel gets little or no sun.

We arrived early afternoon on the 13th May, checked in and went to our room, which was on the 4th floor the room was very nice and the view was superb. Room had coffee making facilities, which comprised of two sachets of coffee and two small milks, on day two we asked for more coffee and milk as none had been left, We were then told that any further supply of coffee or milk we would have to pay for which we have never experienced this in a five star hotel before, it was the same with the toiletries in the room on the first day and no more after that. Housekeeping had a lot to be desired as the waste bin was not emptied at all during our stay by the time we left the bin was overflowing.

We stayed for three nights and decided to eat in the buffet restaurant, the breakfast was fine, but the buffet meals in the evening were not very good at all, the main meal was always lukewarm or cold. The staff at reception and in the restaurant were all very pleasant. Would need to read some good reviews before we stayed at this hotel again

We have just returned from a mini break to this hotel Although knowing it was their first season, we did not know it had been open only days. The staff were all very helpful, but we were not impressed that the porter came to our room asking for credit card details. My husband did question this at Reception. Our room on the second floor was beautiful and the large balcony had sun from early afternoon till evening. Request a pool view! As explained by the manager, some facilities are not yet open, including what we assumed would be the pool bar. There is a board- walk to a magnificent beach which was very quiet. We were half board and could not fault the breakfast but the evening meal was variable. We did have lunch at the out-door restaurant one day which was delicious, but we discovered a supermarket and bought food for picnics on the beach! Can't comment on the evening entertainment as we sat on our balcony enjoying the peace and heat!! Wasn't too impressed by pool bingo on the afternoon-- think they thought this is what English people want! Would be interesting to follow reviews as more facilities are open.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking pool and beach are sunnier.
