“A Fabulous week”
Reviewed 21 October 2013

My wife and I visited the resort on 14th October, for a week. We drove to the hotel from Faro airport and on arrival, Ana at reception was very welcoming and helpful. Tito parked our car and showed us our room. He also gave us a quick tour of the main facilities at the hotel which we thought was very helpful.

The room is modern, spacious and very clean. We had tea and coffee facilities, a mini bar and a safe. I would have liked a desk/table rather than the large settee. The air conditioning was good and the views from the balcony was stunning. The bed was comfortable, lovely soft pillows and the room was cleaned daily.

We did not realize we were on half board and that was a good surprise. Breakfast was well stocked with very good variety. The quality was superb. There was freshly cooked omelette and pancakes, and the staff especially Colin and Eduardo, made it an enjoyable experience every morning.

The resort being so close to the beach is ideal. It also has the biggest pool I have ever seen at a resort. There are three pools in total. With the good weather we had nearly all week, relaxing by the pool with a cocktail or two was one of the highlights. Ahh, Miguel will appear from somewhere and ask you to play a game to win a free cocktail. Brilliant idea.

For dinner, I think the buffet system worked very well. The Sushi restaurant and Mama Mia Restaurants were also available at a discount for hotel guests. We did not use those. The choice of food was endless. The quality was superb and the staff were polite and very helpful. Marisa, Neuza and Pedro were always at hand. Pedro does excellent cocktails!!!!!!

Overall, the location of this resort is ideal. Away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist centres, good for quiet times, overlooking a golf course (and if you play all the better), and right next to the beach.

I am looking forward to my next visit already.

Reviewed 16 October 2013

I and three friends visited the Vidamar Algarve Resort from 16 September 2013 to 23 September 2013 and stayed in rooms with a sea view on half board.
There was a real wow factor on arriving at the hotel. It was very large and airy and the staff were extremely welcoming. The Staff were the biggest plus of our stay. They were always cheerful, polite, helpful and professional.
However, we will not be returning for a second visit. The Five Stars which is seems to have been awarded leaves one wondering what is needed for such an award. No way is this five and I would place it in a Three category.
The rooms were large and very clean but very much in the minimalist style. There was a large settee but no desk/table to rest on unless the one on the balcony was to serve as such. The bed was very comfortable and large and linen was very clean. The glass opaque doors to the toilet and shower room may be OK for some but it was not acceptable to me. The lighting was a real mystery at the beginning but I managed to sort out which switch turned which light by the latter end of the stay. However, the lights were very dim and I found difficulty in reading – thank goodness I had my E Reader which has a light attached. The Air Conditioning remained a mystery throughout. No matter what I did it stayed the same. The rooms were cleaned everyday but, as I found to my detriment, the balcony rail was never brushed/wiped and left a dirt stain on a shirt. No information booklets were in the Room explaining any of the procedures of the Hotel e.g. the Room Service Menu, Laundry Services etc. We were given a piece of folded A4 on arrival but it contained very little information – the Menu each evening was just a title with no explanation of what it really was.
There was always plenty of choice with both Breakfast and the Evening Meal. However, I would have preferred less quantity and more quality. The fried eggs at breakfast were extremely rubbery and most of the other food was only ever warm. The evening meal seemed to be overcooked and very often many of the dishes were tasteless. However, the waiting staff were always trying to help and were very cheerful and polite. There were two other Restaurants but we did not try them as one of our party does not eat fish. When we enquired as to one of the staff as to what other menus were offered he was unable to say whether there was any choice other than fish.
Surprisingly there was nowhere to sit outside in the evenings. The two bars are inside the hotel, the outside one closing at 7:00pm. These two were very small. We were fortunate in that there were many families with very young children so there were very few in the Bars in the evenings. However, if this had not been the case I believe that there would be very little room if the majority of guests visited. As was expected the drinks were five star prices and at least double what they were in the bars around Albufeira.
Other Hotels I have visited usually have a small coach that runs into the nearest town a few times a day. There was nothing like this and to get anywhere it was necessary for a taxi, or take the Touring bus which was a very slow ride.
To sum up: it was a very disappointing venue where the staff are trying their best but it is very much work in progress. Communication using brochures and information booklets are necessary. I wonder if it would have been better to have waited until everything was up and running properly for it the to maybe achieve the Five Star Status which sadly it just does not deserve.

Room Tip: Sea view top floor

Thank you for the comments you0ve posted regarding your stay with us last Septmeber. I am sorry to read we haven't fullfield your expectations and that you feel somehow dissapointed with some aspects of our Hotel.
Without being an excuse at all, the hotel opened early May last year and it is a fact that we've struggled with some of the aspects you've mentioned.
However, I am pleased to inform you that, during this Winter, we've managed to complete all services and facilities, imploved quite a few of those having had the first Summer season in operation, implemented quite a few new service procedures and carefully choose and trained the team for this year's operation, in order to achieve the objective of reaching a much higher level of Guest satisfaction.
Therefore, we are very confident about this year's operation and we do hope you are open to the possibility of returning to out Hotel and give us a chance to change your current opinion.
Thank you and warm wishes.

Spent one week here at the end of August. Great facilities for children. Rooms are very good - modern and spacious. Pools are amazing. Buffet restaurant is fine - and well replenished throughout breakfast/dinner. Staff are excellent, always helpful. Great location so close to the beach. This is the place to go if you want to chill out and spend quality time with the family. If there was one criticism it is that the maid service is not to the standard of other 5 star hotels, and the rooms can be cleaned very late in the day. We didn't get any use of our balcony because there were so many flies and we had to keep the door shut - i'm not sure there is much they can do about this but i did have to ask for it to be given a good brush down and spray which helped for a while. Overall, a very relaxing holiday which we all enjoyed very much. No noise issues at all and the AC worked very well.

Room Tip: We booked a resort view but we had a view of the golf course so think we had a slight upgrade. It wa...

Just returned from a lovely 7 night stay in a 2 bed villa. Check in was only 4pm (we arrived at 12.30pm) but we were told the villa would be ready in about 15 mins which was fine. Reception arranged for our luggage to be delivered for us and when the villa was ready they took us there by golf buggy, although it was only a 5 min walk away. The villa was lovely and the initial teething problems we had were quickly sorted (safe didn't work, fridge didn't work and no DVD player). What we weren't told was that you had to leave the patio doors open when outside by the pool (my husband closed them to to keep the mozzies out) and locked us out. He had to walk through the bushes at the back of the property to go to reception for another key. Not ideal. Mozzies are an issue here but that isn't the hotels fault. I was only bitten once and we managed to keep our toddler totally protected. The other annoying issue is the ants. They were everywhere in the kitchen ( including the fridge) but I managed to keep them in check by filling the sink with water as I think that is where they were getting in. I couldn't see any signs of the this issue being addressed by the hotel. The rooms are very spacious but the mattress in the main bedroom was very hard and uncomfortable and the kitchen not very well stocked. I couldn't get the dishwasher to work properly and I noticed that some of the dishes/cups were dirty (yuck). There were no glasses for soft drinks or small pans to cook veg for our toddler. I wasn't impressed with the bathrooms, as previous reviewers had noted there are plastic shower curtains and not glass shower cubicles which I have come to expect in 5* hotels. The actual shower was very good and toiletries replenished daily.
One thing the hotel doesn't tell you is that for €25 you can book a welcome pack which is great. It consists of bread, jams, margarine, cheese, ham, 3 large bottles of soft drinks, wine, water, biscuits, milk, tea, sugar ( no coffee), peanuts and eggs. Saved us a hasty trip to the supermarket on our first day.
The pool wasn't cleaned at all during our stay and whilst we had daily housekeeping, this didn't cover the kitchen.
The actual hotel was very nice. The large pool was amazing and the two kids pools nice. It was incredibly busy when we arrived (a Friday) but by the Monday the hotel wasn't even a quarter occupied so we had no trouble getting loungers and huge circular pool beds/umbrellas. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We ate at both the pool bar and Sabor de Mar at lunch, all meals (snack sandwiches) were very tasty, fresh and reasonably priced. Make sure you ask to the lunch time snack menu at Sabor as we were initially only given the a la carte menu. We did eat in the hotel one night, we were self catering so paid €23 pp. it was ok but not the best buffet I've seen. Not much choice for veggies but the desserts were nice. Had we booked half board I would have had to have eaten out at some point. We didn't have breakfast in the hotel so can't comment on this. Howevwr, we did find a few local places to eat out which were lovely. We asked for recommendation at the hotel and were sent on a 'scenic tour' of the area that we quickly found out added at least 25 mins to the walk to the closest restaurant. If you walk down Lote 2b (the villa area opposite the hotel) there is a little path to the right which takes you to a bridge and the club house for the golf course that the hotel overlooks. We at there once and it was very pleasant. Walk a bit further along the rows of villas towards Lote 4b ( it's signed tennis courts) and this takes you along a a concrete path towards the conference centre. Turn right after you pass the conference centre and as you continue you wil see Salgados do Mar where we had the most divine prawn kebabs for tea. A little further along the road you get to a t junction, head right and about 25 mtrs along is Prima Pasta, the most gorgeous Italian restaurant I have ever eaten out. We ate thee 3 times with the average bill for two at €35. Walking time back to our villa was approx 10/15 mins max.
There is a cash point on the opposite side of the roundabout to the hotel and a supermarket about a 10 minute walk away. The supermarket was very well stocked, lots of fresh foods and baby items so we could stock up for Our toddlers lunch/tea/snacks. As you walk away from the hotel to the supermarket there is a concrete path to the left that you can walk down and across to the supmarket. It's called Oceano and is very reasonably priced.
The beach is amazing and a very pleasant walk across the reserve via a wooden deck. There are also turtles living in the nature reserve and we spent some time watching them swimming/playing
Again the hotel don't advertise this - not sure why.
The shop in the hotel was rubbish. It is literally a kiosk that you are served through via a hatch. Not much on offer.
We didnt use the gin bar or the nespresso lounge.
The sushi restaurant looked amazing, the menu was very nice but we had to ask reception to see it. Bizarrely you could only book this restaurant from 4pm on the day you wanted to eat. With a toddler we couldn't predict what mood he would be in so couldn't commit unfortunately.
The albufeira tour bus passes the hotel and is a pleasant 90 minute return journey. First bus is approx 10.25am and is €13 pp. the bus stop is again on the opposite side of the roundabout to the hotel and jus by the cash point.
Overall, despite the minor issues, we had a fab holiday and would definitely return. We were told on checking out that the hotel is closing at the end of October to take on board and implement customer feedback which should vastly improve what it can offer to travellers.

This is a brand new hotel with excellent location and facilities.
Also because of that some services are not yet at the expected level considering its a 5 stars hotel, namely:
- Gym not yet fully prepared
- Breakfast missing some foods (natural juices, chocolate for bread, lactose-free milk)
- Lack of toasted break in all the meals
- Wet wipes to clean hands when shellfish is available
- Frequent lack of fresh bottled water and ice creams in the outside bar
- Lack of lifeguard with constant control over the big pool in order to ensure safety and rules are complied

The pain point is the overall quality of the staff in terms of experience and preparation for the 5 star service. A lot of temporary workers are on duty and the managers seems not to have control over the day-to-day operations. Delays and mistakes cannot happen so often.

I hope these "issues" are overcome in the short term as the hotel as fantastic facilities to become a reference in the area.
Best hotel pool I ever saw!

Room Tip: Avoid rooms next to elevators and ask for a top floor room which has better view over the property.
