“good value.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 September 2009

This hotel was chosen because it was set away from the noise of Albufeira but maybe a little too far, not the desciption given by Globespan..... also there is no indoor pool or gym as indicated.... It is a long walk to the beach but you can take the courtesy bus to Felisia beach and walk down the steps, well worth it. Bus driver was very cheery unlike the reception staff who we found to be moody and not as helpfull as they could be. There is little information at the hotel about the area.
The hotel is clean, apartments are very spacious and cleaned every day. towels changed daily, no gripes there, even BBC1 and ITV channels...
Albufeira by night is very busy, lots of stag and hen doos, saw an obvious drug deal go down on Friday night, lack of Police presence considering they are so blatent. On the whole a fab holiday, great hotel but maybe a little too far away from town if you want to pop out at night because there is little to do around hotel.

Just back from excellent 7 day holiday at the Alpinus. We had booked a one bedroom apartment with our adult daughter intending to use the sofa bed in the lounge. On arrival we found that one of the metal folding supports on this bed was broken and would not allow it to fold properly.
Reception immediately offered a two bedroom/two bathroom room overlooking the quieter of the two pools at no additional cost.
Both bedrooms were a good size as was the kitchen/lounge area.
Reception were always very helpful the only downside was that there is almost a complete lack of information on the surrounding area or any other hotel facilities.
Yes the area is very, very quiet and you do need to visit Albufeira for a much wider choice of eating facilities/bars etc. but we were aware of this before we went.
However prices generally in the local area are better value than those in Albufeira.
Sun Loungers were always available at both pools but this probably was because it was mid September
Towels were changed daily and the rooms were given a quick clean.
Not a hotel if you want action but fine for a peaceful break!

If you are travelling with young kids, and want to chill out by a pool then I think this is a fantastic hotel. We are in our early thirties but as we have a three year old little girl clubbing and bars were not our top priority (if they were you'd be disappointed coming to this location) . We were looking for a room that once our little girl has gone to bed, you aren't cramped into a balcony whispering while she sleeps so this spacious room was great for us.

The room itself (we booked a two bed suite and got room 442) was perfect for our needs, with a double room with ensuite, a twin room, separate bathroom, separate kitchen, dining table and lounge area. We also had two balconys so could get the sun pretty much throughout the day. The cleaner came daily and did a quick clean throughout (I'm not going to say it was thorough but was adequate) and changed towels daily.

It was generally a quiet room, my only complaint was that twice in the week the 'hollywood bar' over the road had karaoke night which was loud (and bad singing!) until 2am.

The other reviews vary on distance to the beach, but it took us just over 20 mins (but remember we had a 3 year old child in tow). Lovely unspoilt beach - well worth the walk and stairs down to the sand.

Local restaurants were ok but the Langosteria was fantastic. We got the free bus into Albufeira one evening (very prompt) and went for a lovely Chinese meal (the one which is set back from the main strip, the one with a very welcoming if not slightly eccentric host).

We borrowed the free towels (deposit of 10 euros each) and you can get them changed as often as you wish. This was great for us as we were travelling with ryanair and only allowed 15kg suitcases!

We didn't check out the evening entertainment.

Breakfast buffet was good selection for 6 euros each (our daughter was free), we didn't try the evening buffet as it was usually quite quiet and looked lacking in atmosphere so preferred to dine out.

The pool side bar drinks were expensive (but aren't they always), it was about 2.5 euros per can of coke, so we just stocked up on drinks from the shop at 50 cents a can.

We had a great time so would recommend this to people looking for a relaxing holiday where nightlife isn't a priority.

We have been holidaying in the Algarve for the last 30 years and this is probably the worst holiday we have had there. However I appreciate that everyone has different tastes!
Alpinus
Once a time share resort, now reopened after closure by the new owners. Accommodation is large, airy and well equipped. We found housekeeping hit and miss. The majority of the rooms overlook a very busy road so noise levels are high. Rooms overlooking the South Pool suffer from the noise of the 1 star entertainment that takes place in the evenings- I will say no more! The other few rooms may be quieter but overlook a carpark.
We found reception extremely helpful. Their jobs would be made much easier if there was more freely available information either in the lobby or the rooms - eg it wasn't until our last day that we discovered pool towels were available free (subject to a deposit).
North swimming pool - bordered on 2 sides by the busy road (fumes) - non stop "euro music" to drown out the noise?) Sunbeds are A1 in comparison to those at the other pool, which are on the point of collapse.
Hotel bus service is not very convenient, but neither is the local service!
Location
Other reviews have described it to perfection. I would add that it is not easy to access the beaches, (especially if a wheelchair is needed) in temperatures of 90 degrees. But the beaches in this area are some of the Algarve's best - they are spectacular! (Beware cost of sunbed and parasol - 12 -18 euros). Did not find a bar or restaurant that I could confidently recommend in the immediate vicinity. Far superior restauarants and bars elsewhere.
We made the most of our stay at the Alpinus by hiring a car - there is so much more to the Algarve than this vicinity. Most of the bars and restauarants here are geared to serving the guests of hotels such as the Sheraton.

We did spend 3 weeks here. Real bargain off-season price direct from net.
Rooms. Lots of space, Furniture bit old, but ok. Kitchen is super. Bathroom ok. Bedroom is ok, bed was ok too. Balcony was good size. Daytime was silent, but night-club was just under bedroom - quess this was due/reason to our extra low rate. Music ended usually before 00,for off-season maybe.
All other people were nice, except people in reception. (There was customer always wrong).
Cleaning was ok. Service did work when asked straight past reception.
Pools were very nice.
4 expensive internet coin-machines - 2 did even work (except sounds).
Albufeira was accessible by bus or taxi. At busstop was timetable.
Beach was super, and walk to beach was nice 15 min. Not bad. There was some bars and restaurants and shops to serve also people living in Sheraton next door, but they are still guite nice and cheaper than in Albufeira city. There is also countryside to walk between orange-trees.

Our 1st choice hotel was overbooked so we were moved to Alpinus by the appalling Direct line holidays. We wondered what sort of hotel would still have spaces at short notice and soon realised why! Reception staff were mostly surly and unhelpful. Breakfast was poor, we resorted to buying our own cereals to take into the restaurant. We had to ask several times for sufficient linen, bedding, and towels.the floors were dirty too. As for the nearest beach, it was a long, 30 min walk along a main rd with several buildings under construction along the route and little safe pavement. The beach itself, Felesia, was not worth the walk with decrepit sunbeds for 4euros each + 4 more for an umbrella. Absolutely not worth the 4*s. Only positive the children enjoyed the pool.

This hotel was brilliant! It was very spacious and really clean. Loads of cupboard space, iron, cutlery etc... all the facilities you need. Shops, chemist and quite a few restaurants nearby. Beach within a ten min walk. Beach is lovely! in fact most beaches are great.
The one issue with this hotel is that it is far from the old town and the strip so if you want a night out be prepared to take a taxi. Its not that expensive - around 6 euros during the day and around 10 at night. It can all add up tho if your on a budget. Other than that, nothing else to complain about at all. Reception staff are always there to answer all questions and a cleaner comes everyday.
