Stayed in this hotel end of January for 3 nights with my 3 children. In my opinion the hotel couldn't have been any better. The rooms were modern and very clean, spotless in fact. The staff were all so friendly and helpful and the service was excellent. Could not find any fault with this hotel at all. We had a lovely holiday and would definitely return.

I first contacted this hotel before we arrived as I wanted to enquire about the gym. The manager Jo replied almost immediately with the info I required. Jo then went on to provide information about things to do when we got there etc etc. we arrived at the hotel and had an amazing reception, the staff were so friendly, as though they had known you for ages. The food was delicious and the area was beautiful. Would definitely recommend this hotel, what a fabulous place run by fabulous people xx

Room Tip: Ask for floor one block one, balconies are huge. We had room 1140 and it was amazing xx

I absolutely loved this holiday,it was great,I met some amazing people! All the staff were so welcoming and polite, and the holiday reps were so nice to you and the entertainment was fun for both kids and adults.the food was really nice aswell, which I never seem to expect when I go on holiday ,the children's watersides is great for kids, and the ariel adventure is really great for kids and adults,it's brilliant that you have the steam room And sauna aswell,so people can have a break and relax ,there was always something for everyone to do whilst being in the hotel, for instance when they put quizzes on and pool activities ,i would deffinatley come to this hotel again and I will also let people know how amazing this hotel is. I rate this hotel 10/10. From Paige and Tina room 316 and 1302

Room Tip: It's easier to stay in block one because it's close to everything.

Having read some of the negative reviews, we were a bit wary.... NO need to be! The place was brilliant! From the efficiency of checking in to the minute we left, it was as near a perfect holiday we've ever had. We had an apartment in block 1 overlooking the pool and with a sea view. Even tho we were right over the bar and sitting area, there was hardly any noise after 11pm. Those who complained about food in other reviews? Where they in the same hotel? Food was varied, perfectly cooked [well, 98% of the time], plenty of it, and you could have as much as you wanted. The staff were great, didn't meet a one who wasn't happy, smiley or chatty. ALL the staff were good at their jobs and very efficient at it too. Hotel public areas were spotless all the time, rooms were cleaned every day. If you have kids, this has to be the hotel to go to...we were disappointed we didn't have the grandkids with us as they would have loved it, there was so much for them to do. But plenty of adults there without kids too and we all enjoyed ourselves. I had a slight accident on our last day and the staff couldn't have been more helpful or considerate. If you have any mobility problems, stay in block 1 as block 2 is down, or up, a steep incline but its nearer the buffet/snack bar and has a lovely pool. The pools.... plenty of sunbeds [or grass] to sunbathe on but a few more parasols or a shady area would be nice too. We are definately going to go back one day but with the family and grandkids!. My tip? Take, or buy, your own toilet paper... Portugese stuff is rather thin! And opt for an apartment, loads of room and only a few quid extra.

Room Tip: Take plenty of euro plugs to do all the chargers! Ask for rooms with the higher numbers if you want...

Stayed for one week travelling as a couple with no kids - even though it is really a brilliant family hotel, we still enjoyed our stay. Block 1 is better as it's near the buffet restaurnat, hoowever we spent most days around the quiet pool at block 2 down very steep slope (steps or slope). Never any rush for a sunbed at any of the pools, there was plenty of beds and shades. There was a relaxed atmosphere with no real reserving of beds wth towels.
The food was plentiful and varied, allways fresh and hot. There was a slight 'canteen; feel to the bright buffet restaurant, and usually quite busy, though never a problem in getting a table where you wanted one. There was not much adult entertainment, mostly aimed at children and families as it was advertised as such we should not have been surprised.
The beach is a lond way down hill if you walk through the hotel across the road, better to go by the bus if you have a pushchair.
There is not much in the imediate area for walking to, but buses are relatively cheap as are taxis - though you may have to wait a while in peak evening times.
Airport transfer only takes 35-40 mins. not 1hr 20mins as published in brochure.
Altogether a very relaxed break made enjoyable by the good weather and meeting other friendly, entertaining friends.

Room Tip: Seaview room in block 1 on floor 3 or 4 are best

Arrived home last week after a week here, was great so suited to kids - playground, kiddies pool that was brill -day time entertainment by pool i.e painting etc, creche , kids club for all ages. apartments are spotless - cleaned every day, the only thing i would say is if at all possible get block one there is a major hill of steps up especially if you have buggy, but luckily without asking they accomodated us knowing we had 2 small children. Entertainment by pool and night were great, staff are so friendly and will go out of their way to help, our 3 year old got swimming lessons with holy and carolyn they were just excellent so patient really cant praise them enough, its bit of walk into town but bus goes every morning free to beach and taxi into town is only 4 euros, first choice were great no problem with transfers, everything was on time etc. we went all inclusive for just three days but was worth it as variety of food and drink for both kids are adults was great with different themes each night,

Returned from a two week stay on 30th August. We were a large party of 8 adults and 7 children ranging in age from 9-17yrs. We had stayed at this complex four years ago and had a fantastic time so came back with high expectations......we were not disappointed!! Two families stayed in the one bedroomed apartments in Block One, these were spacious and clean with good kitchen facilities. Two families stayed in the two bedroomed apartments in Block Two which were apparently clean but small. We took the all inclusive option and found the food to be varied and excellent quality, how anyone can say it was the same for the whole stay must be very hard to please. Superb choice of English and local food.......wish more people were willing to give things a try instead of moaning about lack of choice. What do they expect?? All staff were helpful, restaurant staff always cheerful especially Thierry. No shortage of sun-beds or parasols even if the sun beds were a little uncomfortable. First choice entertainment staff were a credit to the company, Marc was fantastic, enthusiastic and motivated and really good with all age groups. Evening entertainment was mixed. Children loved Russell the Brussell but he did wear a bit thin after a week...as did some of the games shows and karaoke which was very repetetive. Entertainment team had some great voices (yes, you would expect it but often not the case!!), Really couldn't fault any of the staff in their determination to get you involved and having fun. Location of resort good and could walk to other amenities if you got fed up of being on site. Yes, it's not a cheap holiday but it is what it is.....a family resort with organised entertainment and food and drink on tap. Some of the holiday makers still manage to give Brits Abroad a bad name but that is a reflection on them and in no way reflects on the hotel or what they provide. Overall, really do not be put off. Having done four Holiday Villages I feel ready for a change but can honestly say that Alto da Colina is one of the better ones.

Room Tip: One bedroomed apartments are more spacious for a family of four (and cheaper).
