We went in Sept taking our 20yr and 17 son. As it was Sept our sons were a little bored due to the lack of people their own age but that is hardly the hotel's fault. If you have older teenagers maybe stick to the main season or stay closer to nightlife.
On arrival we were checked in quickly to block one. The rooms were large, clean and had what we needed. the balcony was huge (we were on the top floor in a bit with bigger balconies)
I was worried about the food at first. The day we arrived was English theme day and to be honest the food was not good though we did all manage to find something we would eat. After that things much improved and there was plenty to choose from each day. I would say that by the end we were a little tired of the food but I think that is the nature with all inclusive food.
It was easy to get served at the bars night and day, despite the hotel being full and it had san miguel on draft for AI which is unusual. Cheaper versions of the usual drinks were also to be had and were fine. Water on draft all over the hotel. We were warned not to drink the tap water but this was filtered and fine. No tummy troubles at all.
No bad behaviour seen, but then we were there in Sept and there were a lot of families with young children and/or grandparents.
For a family with older children it is easy to walk to the beaches and the strip which at this time of year was full of families rather than drunken young adults!
Did not bother with the shows but we don't tend to like them anyway so can't comment.
Stopped going to the main pool due to the annoying entertainment, quizes, wager dancing etc but think there was a lot there for younger kids to do too. The kids pool was more peaceful so started going there.
Did great boat trip out to see the caves and the dolphins.
Old town really nice place to spend a day but too far to walk. Taxi cheapish though quite scary drivers!
Nice holiday, if a little boring for our sons. Would return to area but hotel is best suited to those with younger children wanting a hotel with lots for their kids to do.

We had another great holiday at the Alto da Colina which is also known as the Holiday Village Algarve. My wife and I travelled together with my son, his wife and our two youngest grandchildren aged 4yrs and nearly 2yrs of age. We stayed in a double/triple room whilst they stayed in an apartment. Both rooms were clean and comfortable well furnished. We stayed on an all inclusive basis. The food was self service and there was plenty of it both quantity and choice. If you want to stay around the hotel during the day there are several pools (inc 1 indoor) for swimming, 1 has slides and water chutes for children. There is a fullprogramme of games and activities throughout the day. My advice is join in and try them. People laugh with you not at you. After the evening meal there is a full evening of entertainment in the hotels "theatre". This includes Childrens disco, Bingo, Family fun games and a "variety show" all are of a good standard. Although the music can be very loud and the "bass" very heavy.
Out and about.....The nearby beaches are clean and well looked after.

The holiday was excellent from start to finish.

We flew from Doncaster Airport which was a real pleasure. Very small, very well organised and very clean.

The flight departed on time and when we arrived at Faro our bags were ready for collection. Outside the airport we were quickly directed to our coach and soon on our way to the hotel. The transfer took about 30 mins as we were first to be dropped off.

The hotel welcomed us with a glass of sangria and got us checked into our room quickly and efficiently. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful.

Our room was situated in block 1, which I must admit I was pleased about as its closest to the main pool, kids club, entertainment, etc. The room was spacious and very clean. The main bedroom had twin beds and was separated from the living area with a sliding door. The living area included a single sofa bed and single pull out bed. The kitchen area was newly fitted, the bathroom was clean but if I'm truthful could do with a refit sometime soon. The room had a double balcony which overlooked the pool area and sea. The hotel is located on a hill and has a fantastic view out to sea.

The hotel food and restaurant was excellent. The restaurant has an outside area which was very pleasant on an evening.

The pool areas were great. As previously mentioned the main pool is in front of block 1. Block 2 has its own pool and always appeared to be quiet. The hotel also has a small but adequate splash area. All pool areas had plenty of sun beds. We never had a problem finding one.

The kids clubs were brilliant. They offered a wide range of activities eg high ropes, snorkelling, canoe games, hamster ball, and play & learn sessions. Our only problem was trying to presuade the children NOT to go. They would have gone to every session if they had chance. The staff were brilliant, all friendly, happy and determined to make sure the kids had fun. The facilities were clean and safe. Special thank you to Janine! She worked so hard organising the pool activities. Our 5 year old also had swimming lessons and were definitely worth every penny. Chris the instructor was very patient and really made some progress.

The only thing which l think let the hotel down was the entertainment area. It was indoor and too small for the number of people attending. Unfortunately this put us off watching the entertainment.

We really had a wonderful holiday. We have also been to the Majorca First Choice Holdiay Village and was worried Portugal wouldn't be as good. I'm pleased to say it was.

I have to say that when I read some of the reviews on here I was nervous, but there was no need to be, it was a fantastic hotel, run by efficient, helpful, courteous staff. The rooms were brilliant, the kids facilities were among the best we had seen, and we have done a lot of all inclusive travel. The food was amazing, fresh, hot, large variety, and beautifully prepared and cooked. The bar staff should get a mention too, they were great. The entertainment staff worked very hard, through the day around the pools and a night.
A 10-15 minute walk to a beautiful beach, a few steps, but not nearly as many as we have encountered at other hotels, we went daily for a dip in the sea, then came back to relax by the pools, there were plenty of sunbeds. There was a snack service available if you missed one of the many mealtimes, we didnt use it, but there was a varied menu, and the people we saw using it got nice portions.
The rooms were great, 2 rooms with a dividing sliding door, kitchenette, and a huge balcony with a great view across Olusd'agua, they were cleaned daily to a high standard and we were very comfortable.
I did see and hear the occasional moan from the tatoo'd "its not very british" brigade, but holiday makers have to remember its Portugal! They even had a sports bar for the sad people who couldnt leave the football for a week to spend time with their families, but it shows the Hotel catered for everyone.
We found Taxis as cheap as the busses for getting around and for half a euro you can book one at reception....great service,
We will return another year definately, and I can recommend this place, you'll love it.

We've just got back from our stay at the Alta da Colina hotel in the Algarve (also called Holiday Village). We booked last minute and got a great value deal. The hotel is definately a family hotel and is really geared up for the kids, although that's not what were were looking for as I went with my friend, we still managed to escape the kids at the quiet pool!
The restaurants were great and with a huge variety of food at the buffet restaurant. The food was good although I know a few of the other guests weren't impressed but to be honest we loved it!
The staff were really lovely too, especially the bar staff and the First Choice staff were also really friendly
Although the nightly entertainment wasn't really our choice of thing, you could tell that the First Choice guys had put a lot of effort into everything and they were really professional and great singers/dancers.
The only negative about the hotel is that it is a bit isolated - it's a fair way to the beach (probably a 20 to 25min walk) and the main restaurants and bars are about 25-30 mins walk away. However it is really easy and cheap to get a taxi - but for that reason it's probably best to go All inclusive as this is definately the best value!

dont understand why this hotel has been given bad reviews, we were delighted when we arrived (thought it was a good idea to put the price we paid on the title as i guess that makes a big difference to our opinion!)

rooms were large, modern and very clean. bed was very comfy and room very well equipped. we were in block two which we were thought would be a problem but it turned out better for us as the pool and bar were a lot quiter than the main ones. steps were steep and wouldnt fancy staying in that block if i had mobility problems or young children. block 1 had the best views and the main facilities but it aso had an abundance of children and i imagine was a lot noisier day and night.

plenty of parking not that it was used.

pools were a reat size and there was an indoor one as well. gym wasnt very good, no cardio machines. sauna and steam room good.

cant understand how there were any bad reviews about the food, we didnt have the same thing twice the choice was plentiful, fresh and very nice! big choice of salads, fruit, show cooking, hot food, pizzas, childrens section and desserts. tried the portugese a la carte restaurant, didnt think much to it but my partner enjoyed his steak, think by that point in the holiday i had got used to choosing a bit of everything from the buffet restaurant! wasnt too impressed with the selection of bar snacks but guess we shouldve got up in time for breakfast instead!

good selection of drinks, spirits, sangria, fresh water and soft drinks.

didnt see any of the entertainment during the day or go on any of the first choice trips but night entertainment was very good and the team that they have are excellent. we were there for a week and went to a few shows and to see 2 comedians,

we hired towels whilst we were there and only had to pay a deposit, changed every 2 days.

hotel very clean and chambermaids do an excellent job.

location of the hotel wasnt that great but fine if u are wanting a relaxing break. we walked down to the different beaches which was about 10-15mins. we took a taxi to albufeira old town and spent the day walking round the town, and sunbathing.taxi was 7 euros. also went for a night out there and had a nice meal in the square. went to 'the strip' for a night out, taxi 4euros. lot cheaper for drinks at the strip and not as suitable for children as the old town was. hotel in a eaceful location but cheap and easy to get to the nightlife.

all in all a lovely hotel and holiday would definitly go back and for the price we paid it was a bargain.
