had a lovely week in this hotel. were given a room without decent air con which wasn't want our party wanted but we were moved straight away without complaint and they even helped move our bags. they also recommended a lovely Portuguese place to eat which was very good value. all of the pools were clean and had plenty of space for us to sit around the pool. would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a nice relaxing stay close to both the beach and the old town for nice days out.

We booked the resort almost blind as we'd never been to Portugal before and we booked at the last minute on the Internet.
We definitely struck lucky.
Amazing apartment at the quiet end of the resort.
Fantastic facilities. Wonderful pools. Very clean. Beautiful weather. Brilliant Kids' Club with a lovely ex pat running it.
A few tips. You need to rent a car. It's a big resort and not that close to anything. The beach is a good 15 minute walk away and there's a bit of an upward climb on the way back - tough in the heat. The beach is lovely, has rentable beds and a nice cafe.
You should book an apartment at the quieter end of the resort in the 700s. They are newer and in much better condition than some of the older more dated ones closer to reception.
We had a superior apartment. 2 bedrooms (1 of them en suite) with all mod cons, air conditioning, wifi, washing machine, dryer, microwave, huge balcony with BBQ.
The apartments have no basics in them at all when you arrive. You need to visit the onsite supermarket on arrival but it's more expensive than the bigger supermarkets 5 mins drive away.
Take beach and pool towels. They are not supplied.
You need to specifically request a cot. We went with our 1 year old and even though we'd booked with an infant, they don't automatically put a cot in the apartment. Not ideal when arriving at 11pm and being about a mile from reception!
Cleaners come 6 out of 7 days which is great.
Breakfast is good. The evening meal if you are half board is a buffet. Pretty good for what it is. We ate lunch in our apartment every day and went out a few nights to the Old Town, which is lovely and highly recommended.
We loved it there and would definitely go back.

Just got back from a weeks stay at the Balaia Golf Resort, stayed in first week of september. Overall we had a great holiday, but some small details let the hotel down. On a positive note, the hotel has a wow factor due to the beautiful grounds, stunning entrance and good facilities. The hotel boasts 5 pools each were quiet, relaxing, enough sun beds to go around and was always immaculate. Staff at the hotel are extremely helpful and very willing to accomodate with any query or if you just fancied a chat. The reception and restaurant staff were very impressive and made our stay alot more enjoyable as the reception staff allowed us to check out later as we were on a late flight and they also helped with planning our days out. Overall the food was very good, we stayed half board so buffet style although breakfast let it down slightly. Dinner was always very good, not much choice but always something for everyone and they ran theme nights such as italian, piri piri chicken and a BBQ nights. The desserts were amazing and very well presented, drinks with dinner were also a reasonable price. With regards to breakfast, firstly breakfast is served in the golf clubhouse which is located towards the rear of the park (we stayed in apartment 101 so bit of trek everyday) although it was a nice view with breakfast :). Breakfast itself was basic and was a strange mix between english and continental, for example the english breakfast was simply bacon, boiled/scrambled egg, beans and mushrooms and the continental was just ham and cheese with no pastries or croissants. They did have various bread options, fruit, yoghurts and cereal but after 7 days it was quite repetitive although still tasted good. As the hotel is a golf resort we decided to try the driving range and we had great fun, golf club was 10 euros to hire (plus 5 euro deposit) and balls were 2 euros for 24. Was a good afternoon activity and the golf staff.were very helpful too. Hotel is 5 mins walk from a beautiful beach and around a 10/15 minute walk to another amazing beach. There is a shop just outside which is great for water etc. We would definately recommended visiting zoomarine and book through the hotel as you get discount and transport too (29 euros for coach and ticket) and also make use of the hotels free transport to albufeira but cabs are only 4/5 euros aswell. The only bad points we could make would be about breakfast, the lack of evening entertainment and the room, to be fair the room was very clean, well equipped, spacious and there was a daily maid service but it was very dated (not 4 star standard), the kitchen sink would gurgle, bubble up and smell really bad. Overall we had a great holiday and we would recommended if your looking for a peaceful and relaxing trip :)

I had never been to Portugal before, and thus spent endless hours on trip advisor trying to find a suitable resort in the Algarve, for me, my wife and son to go to in August. Having settled on Albufeira as the location, I chose Balaia Golf Village because of the good reviews (regarding families), and also because it was not in the centre of Albufiera, although easily accessible via a 5 min drive. The resort itself is wonderfully relaxing and the location is quite convenient (as long as you have a car) being off a main road that has easy links to the main N125 road, which goes to the Airport, plus to attractions such as Zoo Marine. Also there are numerous restaurants within driving distance, and a beach within walking distance, although via a very steep walk. The ambience, design and layout of the resort make it quite relaxing and peaceful because most apartment blocks are a maximum of 2 levels high, although there are some that go up 3 levels. There are about 6 swimming pools, each surrounded by a different group of apartments, and the pool for our apartment was never too busy, in fact you can spend most of your day round the pool and bar if you like. We were allocated a 1st floor apartment with a pool view, just a short 50m walk from the pool. Note, that there is also a gym, tennis courts and golf course on site. One highlight of the place is the regularly maintained lawns plus numerous trees that give the resort a very nice feel. In terms of convenience there is a small well stocked supermarket on site, although there are much bigger supermarkets only 5 min away. Also the resort has two restaurants, with the bigger one situated around a pool, although we never tried it. As for the apartments, they are quite clean and spacious with all the usual facilities, and I especially liked the terrace where you could sunbathe or have barbecues, the apartments are also cleaned daily. My only complaint is that the beds were quite low, and slightly uncomfortable, although this is not a major complaint, more like an issue the resort can improve on. If hiring a car, DO NOT use Goldcar Rental as they are masters in hidden charges, with very poor customer service. I would definitely recommend Balaia Golf Village, as the overall experience was quite satisfying

Room Tip: Choose an apartment that is away from the main road, and close to a pool with a pool view

Recently spent a week here and had a great holiday. We stayed in Apt 344 which was a 2 bedroom ground floor apartment overlooking grounds and pool. The location for us and our 2 young children was perfect. Quiet and peaceful with lovely gardens and just enough to keep us all occupied for a week. We made full use of the indoor and outdoor pools - the outdoor pool was quite cold even in July as they are not heated! The apartment was generally fine, we had a few little problems which were sorted out quickly. It was clean and tidy although a little dated and could maybe have done with a bit of a facelift but this did not take away from the excellent time we had. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and we would definitely return again. The only warning we would give others is to avoid the restaurant on site. The food is over priced and very poor. The staff in the restaurant were not very friendly and the head waiter was particularly rude and horrible. However we found a few restaurants close by which were great. Our favourite by far was Jollies (turn left out of the main entrance and walk for approx 10-15 min), great freshly cooked food with a friendly service.

Booked this resort via Travelrepublic for 10 nights from 25th July. Really pleased with the 2 bedroom apartment which had en-suite as well as main bathroom. Well-equipped with washing machine, tumble dryer & dishwasher had I wanted to use them. We were opposite one of the smaller pools which was situated adjacent to the main road, which wasn't a problem & there always seemed to be beds available and was ideal for us to be able to nip back to our apartment whenever we needed to. Small supermarket next to the entrance one down from the main entrance and a large supermarket about 10 minutes walk. There were a few restaurants about 5-10 minutes walk to the left out of the main entrance including the 3 Marias which had an excellent €12 3 course menu with either half bottle of wine, beer or soft drink. About 25 minutes walk in the opposite direction to The Strip. The hotel did a free courtesy bus at 10 in the morning & 6 in the evening to the Old Town. You are advised at check-in that you need to book this beforehand, something we saw people not doing and they then found they couldn't get on because there was no room, it is a minibus which only takes 8 passengers. We only ate at the pool bar on the last day and had a reasonably priced meal. We were not able to keep the room on after checkout at 12 but you are able to use the shower facilities & towels at the health club & store your luggage in a locked luggage room. Beach about 5-7 minutes walk. Only slight gripe and one I previously read on someone else's review was that when they changed the bedding early in the holiday, the sheets were probably for a single bed so only just covered the top of the mattress & the top sheet the same and even though the maids came daily, the towels were not changed every day. In fact at one point after 3/4 days and even though I purposely left them in a big pile on the bathroom floor they were simply picked up, folded and put on the bathroom shelf. However, overall I would recommend the resort for a great family holiday.

I have been fortunate enough to travel extensively and have stayed in many different places all over the world ranging from 5star hotels to budget accommodation and hostels and I have NEVER encountered such aggressive, unpleasant and rude reception staff. With one notable exception...a lovely lady who is friendly, charming and helpful...the staff behind the desk at this resort are rude and argumentative beyond belief. This is a clean and pleasant resort with everything you need for an enjoyable family summer holiday, but I have been left horrified by my dealings with the front desk. The owners of this resort need to address this major issue. The front desk is representing Balaia Golf Village and as such is letting down the entire resort due to their inexcusable rudeness. I have spoken to several other guests who have suffered this treatment as I have and all have said that they would not return because of this. This area is full of similar resorts, people have a choice, please address this!!
