Went for a 4 night stay with my friend as she is getting married and we wanted a chilled out few days in the sun. And that is what we got a wonderful relaxed few days in a spotlessly clean hotel in a lovely part of the world. The room was spacious, spotless and cleaned each day. We had a fridge and air con which were free. We paid for the use of the safe at 3 euros a day. The only small negative is that there are no tea making facilities in the rooms so I took a kettle as I do like to have a drink on waking and before bed. The breakfast was lovely plenty of bread croissants etc and condiments fresh fruits cereals yoghurt and some hot options. You can also have a glass of champagne if you wish, which my friend and I did. The breakfast staff were very friendly. The breakfast room is lovely and clean with beautiful views. We only sat around the pool one afternoon very comfy sun beds and new parasols which arrived while we were there. They were doing some work near the pool on that afternoon and as an apology the management gave everyone free drinks which I thought was a lovely touch.our room also overlooked the pool.the bar area is very nice comfy sofas and chairs it was very homely. The barmen were lovely, friendly and chatty. There was a karaoke one evening which we didn't stay for as had already planned to go to albufeira but it did look fun. I'm not sure how often there is entertainment. The reception staff greeted you everyday on going out and coming back and even the cleaners in the corridors spoke and smiled.I cannot fault this hotel at all from the clean rooms to friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble they were approachable and keen to answer any questions. The area is quiet ideal for rest and relaxation the beaches within walking distance are beautiful. Lots of little shops to have a look in. There is also a supermarket nearby. There are some lovely restaurants close to the hotel reasonably priced and lovely food. Overall our mini break was 5/5 we will definitely be back together for a girly mini break or with our respective partners. Thankyou to all the velamar staff for our enjoyable stay just wish we could have stayed longer.

We have just got back from a weeks stay here (31st May to 7th June) and I would definately recommend this hotel.
Like other reviews I was a tad bit worried as after booking the reviews seemed to go downhill but I need not have worried.
The hotel itself is spotlessly clean (not sure about review that said room cleanliness leaved a lot to be desired), our room 114 overlooked the main road, which could get noisy at times but nothing major (balcony doors are double glazed) - we did have a slight problem with not being able to turn the balcony light off but once curtains are closed this is not a problem (unless you like the curtains left open). Room was light and roomy, plenty of space and the en-suite modern.
For the first couple of days we found the corridors very dark and had to keep switching the lights on but after a few days the electricians either fixed or changed them to automatic ones which was a great improvement.
Breakfast was average but plenty to choose from, hot and cold, cereals etc.
The staff were very friendly and helpful especially the young girl with glasses and the young lad. Always had a smile whatever the time of day.
Cant comment on the pool area as we didn't use it, other than we did notice people putting towels on the sunbeds then coming up for breakfast! The only thing it is lacking is somewhere to sit outside and have a drink but apparently they are currently working on this and the pool table is being removed and a snack bar put in its place (and by reading some reviews this is going back to how it was). There was some work going on, painting drilling etc but it was kept to a minimum and hardly noticeable. I would stay here again if in the area. Excellent hotel and staff.

This was our second visit to this hotel , but the first with the new management in place , although you cannot fault the location of this hotel and the cleanliness some rooms leave alot to be desired, if you are unfortunate enough to be in rooms 102 or 202 there are no balconies.(Wehad requested a high floor room with balcony, but got a ground floor room with no balcony, the manager said they would move us into another room on the saturday (we arrived on a thursday), then said it would have to be tuesday, this seemed a bit silly as we were leaving on the thursday morning.)The breakfast staff are friendly enough, although seem reluctant to say more than the cursory good morning , you almost get the impression they have been told not to say any more than that .We will return to this area again , but not this hotel

We stayed at the Velamar for 11 nights and were impressed. Slightly shaky start when we were mistakenly given a key for a room which was in the midst of being painted and redecorated, but once that was sorted, everything else was great.

The hotel is in a great location - easy walking distance of two different beaches, plenty of restaurants and two little supermarkets. Taxis and buses are reasonable if you want to explore further afield, and the staff at reception will assist you with these. The bar and lounge area is a lovely place to chill out, equipped with its beautiful grand piano.

Our room (215) was spacious, equipped with air con, TV, fridge and balcony . (There was also a safe facility which we didn't use). Hot water was in abundance -never experienced a lack of it. The room overlooked a side street which was fairly quiet and got the morning sun - ideal for a wee relaxing read on the balcony after breakfast. The down side to this room (outwith the hotel's control admittedly) was that two nearby neighbouring villas on this side of the hotel have dogs which bark incessently. This did get a bit tedious at times, with the owners letting them out sometimes as late as 1am.

Breakfast is a delight at the Velamar with its roof level restaurant with spectacular 360 degree view. Look out for the friendly seagull......while we were there the same seagull visited the restaurant every morning and comically tapped the windows with its beak, hoping for scraps. There is a great selection of food - both hot and cold, and you can eat as much as you like. Its a shame the restaurant isn't open for evening dinner as the view is so spectacular, it would be a joy to have a meal there other than breakfast.

The pool area is clean, and was not too busy. We used it several times over the course of our holiday - there was always loungers available, and the staff frequently come round with the offer of drinks.

Very little to complain about really. Niggles were as follows, but none of them were deal breakers - just little points I feel I should mention:

The double room was two single beds pushed together. The cleaning staff omitted to clean our room on a couple of days, but this wasn't a huge inconvenience. The balcony has a light which we reckon was automatically illuminated when darkness fell, but unfortunately you can't switch it off. Getting to sleep in a dark environment meant having to draw the heavy curtains to block out the balcony light, which made the room a little stuffy. Occasionally, the room had a slight whiff of lets say "used toilet" which we put down to a blocked drain problem - but it was just very sporadically.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The staff are very informative, helpful and even stored our suitcases free of charge on the last day behind reception as our flight was not till early evening. Deserves to have more than a three star rating. It is spotlessly clean, has great staff and is in a great location.

Room Tip: South facing rooms will be noisier as will face close to the main road. East facing rooms will be q...

We have stayed here for a week as a couple, cleanliness is superb, facilities are more than adequate, nicely decorated, fantastic staff, average breakfast choices, but if you want something different the staff are happy to oblige - would def stay here again and recommend a very good value, above average hotel - value for money 5/5 - location 3/5 ( but only 6€ in a taxi to Albufeira) and the amenities within the local area are very good (1€ a beer and 3 course meal inc beer/wine and coffee 7.50€) beautiful clean quiet beaches 10 mins walk - the hotel has been nominated or awarded from Trip Advisor for the last 4 years and very well deserved!

Was a bit worried about visiting the Velamar after reading some reviews about the change in management, but I can honestly say I needn't have worried about anything.

We had a spacious family room which was spotless and cleaned daily. We had a fridge and air conditioning at no extra charge. The staff at the hotel were polite and friendly and there was plenty of variety at breakfast time. There was a small pool which looked lovely, but we didn't use it during our stay.

We loved our break, would definitely stay again and would recommend the Velamar to anyone.

Room Tip: Our room was on the road side of the hotel and only got sun in the morning.
