I've just returned from a 4 night stay at this hotel with a girlfriend and we both had a really good time. The hotel is a good standard, very clean, friendly staff and has a lovely pool area and a beautiful sandy beach. The rooms are better than the photo's show on their website and the beds are beautifully comfortable.

It's really well located just over 30 mins drive from Faro airport. We got an 8am EasyJet flight from Gatwick and by 12.30 we were having lunch by the pool so really quick to get there and start relaxing into your holiday.

It's also 15 mins drive from Villamoura and 10 mins drive to Albufeira so ideally situated to get out and about. I'd recommend Albufeira Old Town with its cobbled streets with lots of shops and decent looking bars.

I'd definitely go back to this hotel again and would recommend it to couples and for a girlie break away.

Room Tip: Pay the extra and go for a seaview room

We recently spent 3 nights here as part of our first trip to Portugal. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a resort on a gorgeous beach on the Algarve! The Porto Bay was relatively inexpensive. We stayed in a very comfortable sea view balcony room The balcony with a small table and two chairs, proved to be a fantastic place to start the day with cha and end the day with cerveja. The hotel provides a huge morning breakfast which is almost overwhelming at first. The pool area is large with plenty of lounge chairs, and they also have more secluded 'retreat' areas which offer stunning views. The staff here are fantastic and work very hard to maintain this beautiful resort. Olhos d'Agua is only a short bus ride away from Albufeira proper, but feels completely different, with a much more low-key vibe. Overall highly recommended!

Room Tip: Spend the money for a sea view balcony - it's well worth it!

We stayed here at the end of April this year, it is the first time we have been to Portugal and overall we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. The hotel is fantastic, our room was perfect with stunning view. The walk down the steps to the beach was worth it, we continued along the fantastic beachj to Villamoura, what a lovely walk. The staff were all friendly, the lady who cleaned our room was friendly and efficient, and the food was very good. The only small complaint I would have would be about the orange at breakfast. At any other time you get refreshing glasses of fresh orange (the Portugese oranges are so sweet and juicy) but at breakfast it was out of a machine and definitely was not fresh orange. Apart from this small thing we had a good time and would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone.

The Porto Bay hotel is in a stunning location at the top of a cliff overlooking the sea. Not suitable for anyone who can't manage the 137 steps down to the beach (we counted them!). Although well worth the walk , as a beautiful stretch of sand, with all the amenities to hand.
There was a good variety of food. Breakfast included continental meat and cheese, cooked english, cereal, fresh fruit and champagne (if you can face it that early) and a different theme for dinner each evening with plenty of choice. The restaurant did get very busy and we had to queue for the buffet at peak times. Lunch at the pool bar was very expensive, but there is a good cafe on the beach for half the price.
The pool area was very clean with plenty of sun loungers, beanbags and some wonderful king size beds overlooking the sea. However the temperature of the pool can only be described as freezing! Pool table, tennis courts and table tennis were a big hit with our 10 year old son.
Our room facing the road, was comfortable and very clean. Entertainment consisted of a number of bad "eurovision style" singing acts in the bar each evening. However one evening they had a Brazilian music act by the pool which was very good. Ohlos De Agua lacks any sort of charm, just a number of restaurants and a few souvenir shops. Nothing really to entertain younger people or children. We would recommend one restaurant, Ambrosia & Nectar, which was authentically Portuguese and had great food and service at a really reasonable price. A 10 minute taxi ride to Albuferia is approx 9 euros, if you feel the need for more bars.
This is a good place to stay for (older) couples who just want a quiet place to relax and look at the stunning view.

We spent part of our honeymoon at this hotel and stayed there 7 nights. I will try in a few words to highlight the positives and negatives regarding our stay.
I will start with the "strong points":
The beautiful scenery, the rich choice for breakfast (although every morning for 7 mornings were the same type of dishes; MANY dishes you could choose from but still the same every morning) with many fresh fruits and champagne, very good swimming pool (both indoor and outdoor), and the most helpful and friendly staff I've ever met in all my other trips, from the waiters serving breakfast to the reception. I must say that from the reception, Ms Malika made us feel like we were really checked at a four, even five star hotel, helping us with the trips available from the hotel, and in general with all we needed in order to have a unforgettable honeymoon.
And now with the weak points:
The entertainment for young people (I'm 30 and my wife 27) in NON EXISTENT from my point of view; no evening activities, no shows by the pool, no nothing.
The room seemed a bit old, scratches on the wall (I was in room 407), etc but the most ANNOYING thing of all: Sometimes from the bathroom came an awful smell... like a full sewer. We had to open the windows in order to be able to stay in the room.
Having in mind that this review is only about Porto Bay and not about Olhos de Agua, I will not say anything about the surrounding restaurants, and other places; just that we were again disappointed. NOT A SINGLE way to have fun... no entertainment whatsoever.
Take the trip to Seville from the reception. At only 32 EUR/person, worth every cent.

Thank you very much for your review and comments. The hotel offers daily evening live music at the main Bar and two shows a week, evening live music at the outdoor restaurant and lounges and a daily entertainment with games & relaxed activities, we try to please all ages but sometimes it is difficult to conciliate all. Looking forward to welcome you back at the Porto Bay Falésia. Best regards. Fernando Reis Filipe
