This was our second visit to the hotel, and as the first time we found the staff extremely courteous, the hotel clean & the food good.
Can't say the same about the Bar entertainment or the Broadband though.
We walked into the bar twice, & straight back out again, twice.
We purchased the Broadband for the seven days, the same as last year, but whereas we had a front facing room last year with good Broadband access, our rear facing room had next to nothing this year, which cost me nearly £30 in Roaming charges. The guy on reception made a a point of telling us that they would make an exception with us and refund our payment. Very good of him wouldn't you say? The manager then offered us the use of the business room (just a desk really!) on the 1st floor which had Internet access, but not convenient to go down two floors and practically half the length of the hotel every time either of us wanted to look up something on the internet or send/receive an email.
A simple rule to remember is, that when you book, make sure you specify if you need it, a room that DOES access the Internet AT THE TIME OF BOOKING.
The poolside cafe staff are also very strict with what you can and can't have to accompany your meal. No flexibility AT ALL. If you want wedges with your sandwich instead of the dreadful crisps provided, FORGET IT!
Not the sort of service you'd expect from a Four Star hotel. I've had more choice at a Little Chef.
Lastly, & not really the Hotel's fault I suppose, if you're going for a swim in the outside pool in April, get ready for a shock. The water feels as cold as the Atlantic Ocean that it overlooks, and there is no lifeguard on duty at the in, or outside pool. Again this may be because it's early in the year, but a surprise never the less, as you could drown from shock when you dive in.
All in all a good hotel, excellent staff especially the Housekeepers, but not in my opinion, worthy of the four stars I'm afraid.

Thank you very much for your review and comments. As explained internet access is the same all over the Hotel and during the period we had many guest using the Internet which lowered the capacity of the broadband, our excuses for that, I offered as well for your convenience one of our offices with computer which was denied, presently we are changing the internet supplier and increasing the capacity. Outdoor pool is presently heated by solar panels which wasn't the case last year and off course April doesn't have the same outdoor temperatures like July/August. We regret again the internet situation on which you had a refund and be sure on your next stay the problem will be totally solved. Looking forward to welcome you back at the Porto Bay Falésia. Best regards. Fernando Reis Filipe

This was our third visit to the Porto Bay and we were not disappointed. The hotel staff were charming and helpful as always. Our Thomson Rep, Alex, was exceptional and gave a very personal service. We were blessed with a week of particularly good weather; every day was sunny and warm (6 - 13 April). We relaxed by the pool, enjoying the stunning views and walks along the beach and into the town. (All of the sun beds were brand new, there were always plenty available and it was calm and peaceful by the pool - no music!) We particularly enjoy having a glass of cava with breakfast - you know you are on holiday when you have a glass of bubbles!! Also, 'Happy Hour' (from 5.00pm to 6.00pm) is a great way to sample the cocktails, meet other guests and enjoy a chat with the fantastic bar staff. If you want a really relaxing break in beautiful surroundings, this hotel is a great choice. Porto Bay Hotels operate a loyalty scheme too, so you can earn discounts on food and drink when you make return visits...every little helps!

Room Tip: If you can upgrade to a sea view, you will really enjoy the fantastic views of the pool, gardens and...

All I can say is however good the reviews are they still do not do this hotel justice! It is quite simply the best hotel I have ever stayed in and I cannot wait to go back. The location is stunning (and yes - do get a sea view room), the hotel immaculate, the staff courteous and friendly. It is just a short walk to the beach where you can enjoy freshly grilled sardines and chilled white wine in a small bar with amazing views - perfect! . It was a lovely Easter break but 3 nights just wasn't long enough

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are definatley worht the supplement

after lots of research we decide to celebrate our 35 th wedding anniversary at this hotel.
Upon arrival we were met by smiles from reception. good choice!
the room wasn't ready, but we did arrive very early. this did not matter at all, we made our way out to the pool and garden area, had a lovely coffee and took in the amazing views. once again good choice.
At 1pm we were allocated our room. we had a sea view, so,glad we upgraded. the view was amazing. The room had every thing you might need. Very clean. not the biggest but we did not intend staying in there that often.
We found all staff to be very friendly.
As we said we did go to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary, we were told we would have a chilled bottle of wine on arrival, this did not happen. We were patient , we arrived Sunday, by wed still didn't arrive. Oh well!
we just mentioned this to Alex the rep, the matter was resolved. We went out for a few hours and sure enough on our return a chilled bottle greeted us. thank you Alex. It would of just been nice to have this on our arrival. It didn't really matter. Our holiday at this Hotel was very good. If we come back we would stay here again. thank you Thomson. Our third year in a row with your company. we are already looking again for September.

Room Tip: Sea view. high Floor.

This hotel is one of the best I have ever been to anywhere! The hotel location and room with a sea view are unbeatable. The hotel is spotlessly clean, all the staff are courteous and pleasant, from reception to cleaners, waiters and chefs etc. Rooms are nice, bathrooms are good, also access to the internet is available, in a business centre and via wi-fi. The breakfast food is of very good quality with plenty of choices, even for the most discerning guest. Every morning staff greet the guests upon entering the dinning room (such a nice touch.) The pool area is nice with a plentiful supply of sun loungers and an added bonus is that, if your missing from your lounger for longer than one hour, the towels are removed. Thereby stopping people monopolising loungers (you know who you are) such a good idea. The area is somewhat quitter but no less popular with several nearby restaurants.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms on a floor 3 or above are worth the extra

A great hotel set in spectacular grounds. The walk down to the beach is nothing like as bad as other reviews make out. The steps are wide, broad and shallow, and if needed, there are benches along the way. The beach at the bottom is well worth any effort needed to get there as the sand is soft, clean and endless.

The hotel itself was superb, from the very helpful and friendly staff, through to the varied and extensive bar and food options, we didn't have a single problem. Every area of the hotel was spotless.

We went out of the main season, so the nightly entertainment was a little repetitious but not bad. This is not something that bothers us at all and we would definitely recommend the hotel and will return ourselves sometime.

Room Tip: Road facing rooms we had were absolutely fine as there was no traffic at all and decent gardens to l...

We have just returned from a lovely week at the Porto Bay, could nt fault the friendly staff, lovely food and the overall general cleanliness. The only thing I would say is for the less mobile people it is 127 steep steps down to the beach but because there are many lovely places to sit in the gardens or around the pool you do not have to venture that far.The only other thing was there was not enough going on in the evenings, pianist in the bar or duo singing, was relaxing if not totally entertaining
