“Theft of our mobile phone!”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

The hotel is stating that it has a 4 star Deluxe rating, but the behavior of managers and the hotel staff itself is appalling. We have left our mobile at the inner pool area. We have realized that in about 20 minutes, when we came back, sun beds have already been already moved by the Member staff and there was no traces of our phone. The staff member declined everything and claimed that he did not take the phone, the reception people also said that may be Hotel guests had stolen the phone. What a terrible declaration. Hotel guests are very nice and I will never believe that guests who can afford to stay at such hotel, would steal something here. I am a regular traveller, I always stay at 4 star hotels, never ever I have experienced a theft.

The hotel manager was named Sara.
Conclusion: Be careful with your personal belongings at this hotel and do not leave them unattended. What a disappointment overall.

Thank you very much for your review. It was a pleasure to meet you and explain personnaly to you that what the Front Office clerk meant was that anyone can take a mobile phone from a bed lounge at a remote corner of the pool after more than one hour unattended. Please accept again our appologies for the situation, I believe we arrived to a mutual agreement which compensated you for the loss. Looking forward to welcome you back at the Porto Bay Falésia. Best regards. Fernando Reis Filipe

The hotel promotes itself with photographs which focus on its impressive surroundings. Certainly, it is set amongst magnificent scenery. But the view from Porto Bay Falésia is like the spectacular panorama from The Shard: you cannot see the ugliest structure on London’s skyline - because you’re inside it. In the same way, this building is an unsightly concrete block perched upon majestic cliffs which mark out the stunningly beautiful coastline.
In general we found the staff at Porto Bay Falésia to be very helpful and pleasant, but there is a rotten apple damaging the hard work his colleagues put in. In reviews, I can normally name individuals who deserve special praise; but here I must single out Diogo from the hotel’s reception who is repeatedly awkward and difficult with guests, shamefully letting down the rest of his team.
Our final account had spurious charges for car parking added to it. The invoice is itemised in Portuguese, so it is easy for the hotel to slip in extra costs. Even when Diogo removed the incorrect items, he still miscalculated the total and attempted to overcharge us a second time.
At Porto Bay Falésia you should check your bill with extreme care, particularly if Diogo does the maths.

Stayed this hotel for first time for 2 nights. Easy to find, convenient parking space and fast check in, with friendly staff. Upgrade was a nice positive surprise. Rooms are big, confortable and feel like the hotel has been recently renovated. Room amenities are good. Ocean view is definetely worth or you risk finding yourself with a view to and apartment building block. Pools and gardens are spootless and really pleasant ... I consider them the best of the hotel. Tennis clinique and yoga, among other activities are also welcomed... On the negatives: there is no free wifi in the rooms!!! Minibar prices are ultra expensive - there is a minimarket just across the street get your water, beer and food there at 1/10 of the hotel prices. Breakfast is unbalanced, good but limited cooked food, very poor pastries , good cereal selection and absolutely terrible juice offer - juice was so bad that should not be allowed in a 4star hotel.
In summary, good views to falesia beach and wonderful relaxing garden. Staff friendly without going the extra mile to make you feel special. Book if you get good price for sea view. Avoid the juice - you have been warned!

Once again only the best of staff with total commitment to making your holiday memorable. This is our 6th or 7th visit to a Porto Bay hotel and the high standards of staff and hotel are once again confirmed. Do yourself a favour and pay them a visit.

This was our first time in the Porto Bay Falesia and it won't be our last. Normally we stay in Madeira at the Porto Mare and the Eden Mar and it was like home from home.
The staff were amazing and a big warm welcome from Nelson the waiter who has moved from Madeira to the Falesia.
The Hotel is in a great location and a short stroll to shops bars and restaurants.
The food is first class only thing missing is the sparkling water with breakfast which we have every morning while staying in Madeira and the hash browns.
We were invited to the Managers meeting and have now received my long awaited gold card which we used everyday for lunch and drinks.
The only downside I would say is the entertainment in the evening that's my only complaint everything else was 1st class and we are most definitely returning next April.

Room Tip: rooms with sea view

We stayed for three nights and wished it was longer. The hotel is just perfect, just wished we had a sea view room. we couldn't of asked for anymore. The attention to detail in the rooms from the toiletries to daily fresh towels ( bath and pool) shaped toilet roll tissue to towel arrangements on the bed with sweets. All of which make it stand out from other hotels. The room bar was well stocked and not over priced.

All The staff were attentive but Carlos stood out to us, he couldn't do enough, excellent waiter. Breakfast was fantastic with beautiful sea views and cava. Perfect start to the day.

We had the buffet evening meal on the 2nd night plenty of choice could of done with more chicken dishes though. Our last evening we decided to eat at the À la carte Restaurant but didn't find there was a great choice so I had brushette and a pizza, which wasn't great. But having saying that we did have pizza at the pool bar in the afternoon on two occasions which were lovely, there is certainly more choice on the pool menu and should stay open later than it does, I would of rather ate there. A beautiful place we will defiantly be returning.

Overall this hotel is good. Stay for 3D2N.

The breakfast is nice. As for dinner buffet, not many choices. No Portuguese food. I love grilled swordfish for my 1st night. Take note that they do not serve drinks during dinner. You have pay extra for the drinks.

Pools are nice and clean.

No Internet access throughout my trip. Downside of this hotel.
