“Third visit and still fantastic”
Reviewed 16 August 2014 via mobile

This was our third visit to Porto Bay Falesia and it is still a fantastic hotel. We had a room on the first floor overlooking the little shop and it was lovely and quiet. I'm sure the sea view rooms are amazing as it's a stunning view but as we don't use the room that much it seems a lot of extra money. Staff here are so friendly, helpful and polite it is how all hotels should be. Nothing is too much trouble.

The breakfast buffet is just brilliant as there is so much too choose from. You can have something different every day. There is even free bubbly which we had with their very freshly squeezed orange juice. Bread and pastry selection is huge, lots of fresh fruit, meat and cheeses and cooked breakfast too. We didn't eat here in the evening so I can't comment on the food there, there are good restaurants in the village and we also went to vilamoura a few times in the evening, well worth a visit. Went to albufeira too but too loud and far too many people for me!!

Room was clean and the ladies that look after your room are very friendly and do a great job. Decent sized room, balcony and nice bathroom. Have to pay for safe/insurance and wifi in the room although wifi is free in communal areas.

Look forward to my next visit, love olhos and love porto bay.

Stayed for 11 nights at PBF in July and had a lovely, relaxing vacation. Hotel is well positioned on top of cliffs with stunning views, nice balance between pool and grass area for sunbathing. Despite other reviews we didn’t see any issue with people excessively reserving sunbeds – there were plenty for everyone and the hotel was nearly full when we went. Gardens were a favourite spot to just lay in the shade and sun - so peaceful! The walk down to the beach is manageable – about 140 or so steps. Once there it is lovely and sandy – you can pay for sunbeds or walk further down where it is quieter if you wish. Hotel is happy to supply an umbrella at no cost. Staff are very friendly and helpful – a real credit to the hotel. There are tennis courts and an air conditioned gym for those wanting to exercise. Breakfast was really very good – great selection of the usual continental style breakfasts, with tea, coffee, freshly squeezed oj and fresh fruits as well as pastries, meats and salads. Didn’t have dinner so couldn’t comment but it didn’t always smell great. Hotel is a little dated and tired looking but not really an issue as don’t spend much time inside – that said the maids were so sweet and friendly and kept everything spotless. We didn’t have a sea view and it didn’t detract from the holiday.

Moans – having to pay for a safe (not had to do that for years) and wifi in the room (only free in communal areas). The hotel could invest in some sunbeds on the beach as we had to pay €15 to sit directly in front of the hotel. Early in the holiday I ordered sole from the lunchtime bbq and it had clearly been frozen and was half cooked so I had to send back which to be fair the hotel deducted from my bill but it did ruin my appetite for fish for a few days which is a shame when your by the sea. On our penultimate day I left my phone on the sunbed (stupid I know) and when I realised and returned it had gone. Staff weren’t really keen to try and speak to the pool boys who cleared the towels and it took me having to speak to 5 different people to track them down. I was made to feel like I was accusing them which I wasn’t and no one was really proactive in helping me track down and I was made to feel like an inconvenience. In the end I accepted it had been stolen and there was nothing I could do but was a sour note on which to end the holiday.

Olhos D’Agua is a short walk down a hill from the hotel and there are some traditional places to eat but the menu is virtually the same in each which can get tiresome. It is very tourist orientated and doesn’t feel very traditional and you may struggle for longer than a week. Restaurante Duarte at the top of the hill was a good find (try the cataplana for 2 people) and a litre of house red for €7, Fratelli’s by the seafront was far and away the best place we ate (and returned to twice more) and we also had a good, reasonably priced meal in Azul. The resort is quiet and family orientated but as the World Cup was on there was plenty of fun to be had during the games and we had a few cocktails and post dinner ice cream whilst watching some of the games. Just be warned its deceptively windy and can be cold in the evening in ODH.

Room Tip: No issue with 'garden' facing rooms but a sea view would be better - depending on the cost.

Thank you very much for your review. Happy to know that you enjoyed the hotel, service and staff. Beach sunbeds as you know are not run by the Hotel and normal price for August. Our apologies for the inconvenience caused with your mobile but the hotel is not responsible for unattended objects at pool. Looking forward to welcome you back at the Porto Bay Falésia. Just returned from a lovely stay in Porto Bay Falesia. Really enjoyed the various quiet places to sit and read or just ponder, the views were spectacular.
We treated ourselves to a sea view which was very pleasant and although facing the pool it was also quiet. We also got free wifi on the balcony.
We went B&B and bought some vouchers to eat in the hotel as well as trying some of the Italian restaurants nearby. It was cheaper to eat out. All the meals we had were of a very good standard. Breakfast had plenty of choice and all the fresh fruit was great, very easy to achieve 10 a day or more.
We went to Albufeira twice by bus which was easy but times were not too accurate, 9 euros return for 2 of us. We went on Dolphins driven excursion which was brilliant, lovely caves and then plenty of dolphins swimming around our boat.

Room Tip: We asked for a sea view and quite high. Got the third floor and absolutely fine.

Beautiful hotel. Stayed for 2 nights. Choose a room with an ocean view. My room was on the 2nd floor with view overlooking pool and ocean and it was great (see photo). The room was small but very clean and very functional. The beds and linens were very comfortable and I slept like a baby even though the room was right above the disco (I always bring ear plugs when I travel just in case...). The food and drinks delicious. The live music just the right touch and the staff, well... just wonderful.

Late check out was not possible as they were fully booked but they were very accommodating by offering use of towel as well as changing rooms and showers in the spa in the late day of my departure... The neighboring area has gift shops, bars, restaurants etc. and the old town of Albufeira is about 8 kms away (go visit, it's worth it). I recommend this hotel for its beautiful vistas, wonderful pool, amazing beach, staff, and yes for a good night's sleep. Hope you like the pictures and get a chance to visit for yourself. It was hard leaving... just saying !

Room Tip: Get an ocean and pool view room

A beautiful hotel in an amazing setting. Taxi ride to bustling Albuferia 10 euro, bus buses nearby and frequent. Staff are very pleasant and helpful. The room and hotel are spotless and beautifully presented. We never had to look far for a sun lounger and there are lots of quiet places in the grounds to relax and enjoy the weather and beautiful landscape. We were half board and the food was great - lots of variety and good quality. While the hotel is outside busy Albuferia and Villamoura we found bus and taxi access easy and relatively cheap. Definitely try the cave boat trip from Abuferia marina - 3 hours along one of the most beautiful coastlines. Near the hotel there are a few nice bars. Try Wee Molly's or Cabana cocktail bar. Some local supermarkets and shops but a quiet little town - which we loved and found very relaxing.

I visited this hotel for the summer vacation and its normally quiet busy with many check ins.
When you select Porto Bay do not think grand.

The best part of this hotel is its access to the Falesia beach. The rooms are simple yet cosy with the necessary amenities and beds are comfortable. Breakfast has all you need with a selection of local fruits, cereals a hots selection and a good bread selection.

At night if you wish to go out it is close to Albufeira and not too far away from Vilamoura.

Outstanding, friendly service in this hotel. Even in high season, with the hotel full, there were few children and the atmosphere was calm and zen-like. It was never a problem to get seated at breakfast, nor to arrange a sunlounger in the pool or extended garden area. A lovely touch was the bottle of bubbly delivered to my room on my birthday... It's good to know someone really pays attention to the passports they photocopy! Highly recommended.
