The location and grounds of this hotel cannot be faulted but the inside is definately not 4* quality. The bedrooms are very dated and in desperate need of refurbishment. It is not a patch on the other 4* hotels in the immediate vacinity or it's sister hotel the Pestana Viking which is about one mile away. It advertises Wifi but it is very limited and is chargable. Again the other 4* hotels in the area including the Viking does not charge for wifi. The Hotel is definantely not suitable for anyone with mobility problems as there is nowhere that can be acessed without going up or down steps. The staff in the hotel we all very pleasant and courtious and the gardener was an exceptionally pleasant young man who had a good knowledge of the exotic plants in the garden.

Room Tip: The poolside rooms are in the best postion as the have a large terrace with private table, chairs an...

Our 3rd visit to this hotel which is in the best location on the cliff overlooking miles of sandy beach. Good breakfast, over priced evening meal not to our taste so try a local restaurant & enjoy two meals for the price of one at this hotel.Lovely gardens, good sized room, nice pool. Even better when the water features are working, never been disappointed here.

Room Tip: 1st floor facing the pool also looks out over miles of sandy beach.

This hotel really is what you want to make of it. If you want a quiet hotel, superb views and good food then Pestana Levante is for you. However it is not for nit pickers. You can make a case that the hotel is probably due for a refurbishment and that the garden features at the back make it look scruffy yes and like other hotels the bar and pool bar are a bit pricey but like everything you can always find fault if you are already in that mindset.
The beach is great and if you want to avoid the crowds turn right walk along the cliffs and you'll find quiet little coves to sunbathe on. The town is a mix of the usual touristy shops and some great places to eat. We found a couple of bars on the beach that were great on a night and good for lunch during the day. If like me you wanted to see English Sports The Water Dog not far from the Hotel has Sky Sports and English Football. There are also Indian and Chinese restaurants we didn't need them as we went half board which I would recommend as the food at the Pestana is fantastic. However that was our opinion I did hear one couple complaining but like I say if you want standard English Fare stay at home.
Embrace the location, the food and the friendliness of the staff explore the beaches and beach bars and you'll have a great time!!

Room Tip: If you can get a sea view

Booked this as AOA ( wouldnt normally but we knew it would be one of the 3 Pestana's in the Algarve so couldnt go wrong) and was pleasantly surprised. Yes the hotel is beginning to look worn but the standard of service and location won us over. At the end of the day you only sleep in a bedroom and after 5mins youve gotten over the fact its a little dated and you are smacked with the great views of the beach, lovely gardens and beautiful weather. Its perfect for a beach chill sun holiday, away from the hustle and bustle of the high rises in Amaco de pera. You can choose to turn right over the cliff tops and bathe on one of many secluded private beaches or you can turn left and join the masses of families on the main beach. We did both. The staff were very professional and attentitive at all times, the cleaners and gardener worked thier socks off. Fortunately we got a poolside room which i think were the nicest in the hotel, we did walk round the back and see some rooms facing an empty pool but again you can stay on the beach till 8at night!! Portugal is getting pricey though to eat out, although we did find a lovely place called tascas which did beautiful shell on prawns! All good for a relaxing break

Room Tip: try and get a poolside room for sure

We stayed 8 nights Aug. 28 to Sept.5 and had a fantastic vacation. Hotel is older but kept very clean. It is very quiet at night which is exactly what we wanted. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Buffet breakfast was always hot and tasty. Dinner buffet was also very delicious! We had 2 nights that the air conditioning did not work but the staff were very apologetic and even gave us a complimentary dinner voucher for one night. Location is the best in this area as the hotel is nicely perched on top of a cliff overlooking the ocean. Our room had a nice ocean view and over the court yard which had several water features that were unfortunately not working. (The view of the ocean certainly was worth the price of the room though).
Very well situated to the best part of the beach which is fantastic! Not a luxury hotel but excellent value and clean!

Room Tip: Room 219 has a central good view

This hotel has a four star rating, but no way can it justify four stars, I have stopped in some excellent three star hotels that would leave it wanting. However, it has many plus sides that do make it a very desirable place to stay if you want a relaxing holiday. Although we went as a family, the youngest was 20 and the next youngest 24.

The rooms are very dated, you seem to go back into the mid 70's, the bathrooms are very dated, but everything is very clean with the exception of the bedroom floor, which being tiled, we found got very dusty. The shower heads were very dated, very sixties even. It would not cost a lot of money to change the shower heads to ones on risers with soap trays and a three way adjustable head, also the showers were over bath and had curtains, which is not really acceptable for a four star hotel. I was talking to the staff who said the the Pestana group tried to sell it a couple of years back but could not get a buyer. Because the Pestana group want to sell it, they are not investing in any upgrades.

We only went B&B, breakfast was fine, although the fruit served seemed to lack any flavour, but you could have what you wanted, and I was happy with what was on offer. While on the subject of food, lunchtime was awkward because the hotel is just out of town, so you can't just nip over the road for a sandwich or what ever. There is a poolside bar where you can buy snacks, but at 10 euro's for a sandwich, no one was buying, I personally refuse to pay such ridiculous prices. the hotel would do itself a huge favour by making the lunch time snacks affordable, the hotel has full occupancy but no buyers.

The beds were firm but comfortable, no double beds at all, but the pillows were awful and I woke up once or twice with an aching neck and a head ache. Lots of hot water in the bathroom, no complaints there, but no tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms.

But the hotel scores hugely on other areas. It's location is one of the best spots I have ever seen for a hotel, on a cliff right above the beach, the view from the pool and the breakfast terrace was nothing less than spectacular, with easy access to the beach from a private set of steps leading from the hotel gardens by the pool. The hotel was very peaceful, it seems to have a name for a relaxing holiday, there were no drunks, no kids running around, it was just nice and relaxing, even the Germans were civilised, although they did not seem to want to speak to the British contingent. The pool was excellent, and even though the hotel was at full occupancy of all 80+ rooms, there were sun beds to spare and the pool area was peaceful. With it's excellent access to the superb beach, many guests would spend a day on the beach. We did not eat in the restaurant at all, as we went into the town each evening to various restaurants. It was nice to eat breakfast al fresco each morning enjoying the beautiful views.

The hotel offers and charges for internet access, but only has one computer accessible to the public. This caused other guests to rant at my son who had booked and paid for internet access and had not used his allocated time when their own lap top could not log on to the hotel internet.

Be aware that if you have trouble walking, you may need to take a taxi into the centre, which would be just under 5 Euro's. If you want to eat lunch round the pool, buy some fruit or bread in the town and bring it back. One nice touch is that there is a fridge in each room, so you can fill it with bottles of what ever you want.

What this hotel has to offer is not so much a wonderful modern environment, but rather a really pleasant and relaxed holiday that any one would enjoy, and it seems to have a repeat customer base that like the quiet life.

A 3* rather than 4 *hotel, but it is clean, welcoming and has wonderful views across well kept gardens, pool and beach. The 89 steps are not for the faint hearted but they are worth it for the fabulous caves, arches, stacks and lovely beach below.
It was my birthday treat and the staff put a bottle of bubbly in the room with their compliments which was a nice touch and gave us a 'suite' too ( Room 1).However, the latter had a lounge like a dungeon! It was counteracted however, by a lovely view of the salt water pool- which was clean but cold. The pool bar is expensive.
Staff are professional rather than friendly but very efficient.
The gym is small but perfectly adequate but the bonus is the free sauna and turkish bath. There is a generous sized lounge with pool table, games and so on.
Outside there is crazy golf or table tennis. The resort is popular with the Portuguese which is an added bonus in my opinion- if its good enough for them....

Room Tip: Try to get rooms 8-10 as they have the pool and sea view but are not overlooked as much as room 1 wh...
