“Very good hotel and made a great holiday”
Reviewed 16 September 2012

We booked our holiday with Thomas Cook for a 9 night break All Inclusive in Sept 2012.

On arrival at the hotel at 11 am, we were greeted warmly by the reception staff, explained in full about the hotel. Our room wasnt quite ready, so they offered to look after our cases. The room was soon ready though (by 12), giving us just enough time to enjoy a nice drink in the pool/snack bar.

The room was well equipped, of a good size, everything nice and clean with a good sized bathroom. We had a nice pool view room on the 5th floor. Noise from the entertainment was not an issue, seeing as soon after 11 pm it all stopped. Sheets and towels changed very regularly.

We had no major issues during our stay, but anything minor was handled extremely well and quickly by the hotel staff. Great service.

The pool and pool area were well kept. All clean and lots of good sunbeds. Towels available from the hotel for use around the pool and you could change these daily if you wanted. No need to ever reserve sunbeds - they outnumbered people while we were there. Even on our first afternoon we got good sunny sunbeds without any problem. Music was played sometimes around the pool, I personally like some music on and we always managed to read our books and nod off around the pool while the music was on. If you dont like music etc, then there were plenty of beds away from the music which would be lovely and quiet. So options for everyone. The Fun Team made an effort to run activities during the day, but the number of willing participants during our last few days did drop considerably and the hotel was getting quiet.

Breakfast - good choice of food available, hot cooked items, fruit, cereals, pastries etc. Hot items limited to 8 due to number of hot plates in the buffet set up, sometimes pancakes and fried eggs on top of those 8. Certainly the smallest buffet selection I have experienced in a hotel, but everything was well cooked and good quality.

Snack/pool bar did great snacks during the day. We had our lunch there all but one day, where we went in the main restaurant where selection was ok - lots of salads, bread, and again 8 hot items. If you are going out for a day - ask for a packed lunch - great little bag of goodies for a picnic on the beach etc.

Dinner - now I eat pretty much anything and everything. My partner is a vegetarian who cant eat nuts. So we represent a good wide array of customer! Because the buffet was small, you would have plain rice, a plain pasta, 2 veg, 1 potato and then 3 meat/fish options. These items seemed to be picked completely in isolation without consideration of customers being able to put them together to form a sensible meal! We had contacted the hotel twice prior to traveling, asking them about their vegetarian options and supplying a list of ideas.

Saying that, you certainly must ask (and this applies generally, and you cant complain on here unless you have asked yourself whilst at the hotel), we asked the staff one night for some sauce for the plain pasta, they happily took the plate of pasta away and added some sauce for us. Also in the mornings people were asking for fried eggs on those mornings when a plate of them werent on the buffet, and again they were happily cooking and providing these. I imagine though that children would struggle to find something to eat during dinner. Just some thought about kids and menu planning so that sensible combinations are available would improve the buffet.

Drinks - good selection included in the All Inclusive. Most of the "pre-made" cocktails were ok. But the mojitos were very poor - first cloudy mojitos I have seen!

Entertainment - good for kids with discos, karaoke, bingo etc, some live music every night - but wasnt really to our taste, but we still had a good time. We missed the parrot and reptile shows, which I imagine were good.

Staff - touched on this above, but all staff from reception, snack/pool bar, main bar, restaurant and Thomas Cook rep, were outstanding. I have not experienced such consistently good service and friendly staff in any other European hotel. Big credit to the staff and please Vila Gale keep looking after and rewarding these good people.

Location - perfect for walking into the town or to the beach.

Resort - again very clean, nice little shops and walks to be had. Great views of the beach and sea. Nice selection of small bars and restaurants.

Beach - perfect sandy beach.

I would consider this hotel a very good 3 star hotel. It is close to 4 stars but needs to improve its buffet and cocktails to obtain 4 stars from us!

Certainly would recommend this hotel to people. If you have special dietary needs - contact the hotel and again ask for things from the staff at dinner time if the buffet doesnt meet your needs. If we hear they have increased/improved the buffet then we would go back AI, otherwise we might look into B&B options.

Happy to provide any further info to anyone considering this hotel, including pictures.

We both had a fantastic break staying here.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review and comments about your experience in Vila Galé Náutico in 2012.

It is a great pleasure to read that you enjoyed your stay with us and let us express our gratitude by thanking you for sharing your positive thoughts about the friendly and efficient staff, room and cleanliness.

Regarding the food and beverage, we have taken in consideration your review (and from other guests) for our operation of summer 2013. We have already fried eggs and pancakes every day during breakfast, we added one more main course, as also 4 themed nights (2 BBQ: One with 6 variety of meats and 2 fish and other with 6 variety of fish and two meats; Paellas evening and Algarve Cataplana and seafood). We have also added new pastas and pizzas in the buffet at lunches and a sauce station in both meals (3 options at lunch and 6 at dinner). The feedback is better this year, but we have already new goals for 2014, with the possibility to put a kids corner and increase vegan options.

Regarding the entertainment, we added 3 new shows this summer, as also, changed the musicians. Despite our efforts with better feedback, we are already working to improve even more in 2014 season.

That´s why your comments are an important tool and only help us to continue our constant pursuit of service improvement and continue trying to exceed expectations.

On my own behalf and on that of the Vila Galé Nautico Hotel team, we hope we have the honour of hosting you again in a near future.

We are really a family hotel during the summer, so is quite normal we have more noise and more children. We are working to avoid so much noise and maintain everyone satisfied during the evenings for 2014. This will only be possible by changing the entertainment program and use the facilities in a different way.

The music around tho pool only exists part of the day, and sometimes all day, but to be only an ambiance music.

I sit here writing this in the notes section of my phone sat in the mayflower bar on my final night of a 5 night stay before I head of to uni on the Monday. My father (46) my brother (21) and I (20) booked through Thomas cook as a short break after a hectic summer of work. As we arrived at the hotel around 6:30 on Saturday night we were greeted by Pablo, a happy smiley chap who explained everything the hotel had to offer, the all inclusive side and the way to our rooms. As we opened the door to the room we were took back by the cleanliness and the high standard for a supposed 4* resort. Quickly unpacking and heading down to the bar which is furnished with leather sofas, chairs. Full size pool table and 2 plasma screens. we were greeted by Miguel, the manager of the bar who was the stand out member of staff all week. Polite, curtious, made sure our needs were met and even put the England game on instead of Portugal! :) during the day lunch is served in the restaurant but they offer a snack style menu which we preferred as it meant we weren't sticking to times and could eat and drink when we wanted. The weather for the second week of september was, well my tan is better then that TOWIE lot you seen on itv2. The pool side has adequate sun loungers, tables and chairs and the activity reps get all the kid involved and even fill the pool for aqua gym. Music is playing throughout the day which was lovely as added some atmosphere and people, including myself just randomly sang to it and started waving there arms. The hotel is located merely a 3 minute walk up the street from where bars, ice cream shops and your local tourist shops are and at night is very safe to take children and elderly people. As you go into the restaurant for any meal you are greeted by smiling waiters and waitresses who offer you fresh ice cold bottle water and te chefs are cooking fresh meats in front of the buffet which has a fine selection of food to suit all needs, salads bars and Desert cart to fill any needs, especially younger people :)   And for parents who are worried there kids will be bored in evenings fear not. Two lovely young ladies kept the kids moving in a Minnie disco and other activities till about 10, in the bar so you can keep an eye on them and they are soon ready for bed afterwards. Surely a positive ;)  all in all I can not fault the hotel and anyone that does needs worry about more important things in life as we have been treated with respect, kindness and even when something wasn't to our liking it was resolved. On our third day our room was not cleaned. We pointed it out to reception just to make sure it was done the next day as it wasn't a big deal, to us. He apologised unreservedly and stated to them, this was a big deal and would speak to housekeeping. When we arrived to our room at 11pm after only making them aware at 8pm our room was remade, fresh towels, everything perfect again and even a apology note - was never a issue to us but wow, Took back by the attentiveness of a hotel that can hold 600 people! If your going to Portugal and can get in here. You'd be a fool not too. We shall defiantly be back! :)

Reading the reviews its obvious people have different experiences of hotels and holidays in general but then the expectations after spending your hard earned cash can be very high.
this hotel was not relaxing or it was depending on what review you read.
it is what you make of it as with everything in life. i was totally relaxed had a great holiday and thats because i chose it to be that way.
my wife and 3 and half year old boy had never been to the Algarve before i had lived in this resort 24 years ago.
Its changed and for the better the promenade although some reviews say its dirty - its not its cleaner than the uk and there are some lovely places to eat like the Clipper and porters - i eat out twice a week and the food was better than most places in the uk.
Now the hotel - my room was ready on arrival - 11am and it was fine it was a family room and it faced the front of the hotel this was the best as the pool area would be noisy at night due to the "entertainment". this in itself is not Beyonce take that or the killers but its a hotel what do people think they are going to get?
the Rep for Thomas cook was superb Her name is Chrissie and my son loved her to bits.
she had a hard job of it with the other guests in our meeting having all the life of a corpse.
the food was varied and tasted nice but my son struggled to eat everytime as it doesnt cater for fussy kids.
The staff was a weird mix the men were very friendly and helpful the women not so - highlighted by a lady on reception with permed hair who at best was abrupt at worst borderline rude.
we booked an ala carte meal for saturday on the wednesday and we had to choose what we wanted to eat there and then so you better know what you will fancy later in the week. when i asked if she was serious she looked at me like i was mad and said "of course they need to know what you want!" like this is remotely normal !
there was not many english families there probably due to it being term time which meant my son didnt want to go to the thomas cook kids club as he might have been alone.
i have read that the pool has not been checked for chlorine levels in other reviews this simply is not true they checked it twice a day and i saw them do it every day i was there.
apart from the woman on reception the only moan i would have is the attention by the fun team use the term fun loosely they very much favoured the portuguese guests and the one time that one of them spoke to me about my son i told her that the kids club didnt offer my son much as he seemed to be one of the few english kids here at which she told me it was "great" and she was "really pleased" i thanked her for listening properly and she said "thank you".
Now i case you are thinking ahould i or shouldnt i ? yes you should the place is great the location is great and the beach is beautiful we went to Zoomarine in Gaia this is a great day out my son loved it !! you must go out at night its safe and lively and there is a shop that sells really lovely things a real gem its one of the first ones on the left as you walk from the hotel to the centre cant remember the name though.

Room Tip: we were on the 5th floor and not poolside this was by far the best as the singing would be on the po...

About the staff, well, we really try to keep with the best and this year of 2013 we have some different staff. The slogan of our company is "Always close to you" and this is the feeling that we try to pass every day. So, I apologize if we didn't up to expectations.

Just returned from a two week holiday with my family. The hotel was clean and modern, with spacious rooms. I travelled with my husband and two teenage children. This was my first AI holiday so cant compare against any other hotels, however we all found the food to be of good standard and the salads/fruit was always fresh and constantly replenished.
The pool area was great not to busy or large so you could keep one eye on the kids. There was always sun beds available with towels provided by the hotel, Fabio was always on hand to help and greeted you each morning.
This was our first time travelling with my husband in a wheelchair and the hotel was accessible and the reception staff helped me source a motability scooter which helped us explore the resort fully.
Negative points- the music around the pool was too loud and unnecessary, we did ask the staff to turn off, which they did.
The entertainment at night was ok but didn’t spoil our evenings
For a four star hotel they should be able to provide fresh vegetables, it was a bit “school dinners” to see potato croquettes under the serving plate which just didn’t compliment the excellent standard of meat being carved.
Overall this was a great hotel and we all loved it, the staff were all very helpful and wouldn’t hesitate to go back.

Room Tip: We had a family suite 201, it had a seperate room for the kids with very comfy beds. The two balconie...

We have just returned from a week all inclusive at the Vila Gale Nautico. We booked last week
knowing the children had gone back to school and expected a nice quiet relaxing holiday but that was not the case.
On arrival booked in at reception and was given room 531 at the back of the hotel which was
situated above a main air conditioning unit, overlooking some waste ground used as a car park
with a nice view of a villa in the course of construction. My wife politely asked at reception if there was another room available, much to the disgust of the reception manageress ,Ana Isabel, who was abrupt and very rude. Eventually we were given another room at the front of the hotel number 403 which was much better.
Large influx of portugese families at the weekend, all seemed to have lots of children with them.Quite noisey around the pool during the day and very noisey in the bar at night with kids
running around screaming and shouting.
Food does not warrent 4* rating. Breakfast the same most days, scrambled egg, beans, bacon,
small sausages and tomatoes. A fried egg or omelette would have been nice but not on offer.
Main evening meals although different most nights all seemed unappetising .Lamb was rubbery
duck and fish very dry and beef was like trying to chew an old boot.
If you stay for a week you can have one A la carte meal which you have to book at reception the
night before where you are shown a menu and have to select your choice. I hope you like
Italian food because you can either have pizza or pasta.
The evening entertainment was poor, we had 1/ man playing guitar and singing 2/bingo and
kareoke 3/ another man playing guitar and singing plus parrot show 4/ man playing electric
keyboard (very badly) sometimes with one hand while he used hie mobile with the other one
then bingo 5/ D.J. with kareoke 6/ yet another man playing guitar and singing then bingo.
Hotel situated 5 min walk from beach. Beach is quite long with golden sand, plenty of sunbeds;
costing 14.5 euros for 2 beds and umbrella. In late afternoon locals tend to flock to the beach and gets quite busy
So the resort is very nice, hotel clean, most staff friendly. Would i go again - probably not.

Room Tip: Dont pay extra for pool view very noisey especially when music is playing during evening Sea view...

As all hotels, there are always some rooms that don't satisfy 100% the guests. We are glad that the problem was solved, but unfortunately not with the usual kindness and availability. I inform that the referred person don´t work anymore in this hotel.

We are a family hotel, so, it´s normal the large influx of families (portuguese and others) and of course a lots of children with them. The noise of children are pretty normal in a family hotel, but we can and we will improve both experience for the parents and childrens in 2014 by having a different organization of the entertainment.

We have taken in consideration your review (and from other guests) by adding 3 new shows this summer, as also, changed the musicians. Despite our efforts with better feedback, we are already working to improve even more in 2014 season.
