Hotel Mirachoro Praia
Ranked #6 of 18 Hotels in Carvoeiro

In it's favour this is a clean, comfortable hotel with good breakfasts. That about sums it up, it has no atmosphere, staff are miserable and very thin on the ground. Could never find anyone to serve us at either bar so ended up spending our euros elsewhere. Where the 4 star rating comes from I do not know, a passable 3 at most.

However Carvoeiro itself is a great place to spend a holiday - beautiful beaches and good restaurants and bars. I would have to disagree with other comments and say we always found eating and drinking out incredible value for money. So many good restaurants within easy walking distance all with lovely friendly staff too. We never had a bad meal.

Arrived at 1.00am, friendly reception. Room clean, comfortable, light and airy and aircon a god send. Only negative no tea or coffee making facilities in the room. Pool area is excellent, clean and plenty of sunbeds and umberellas. Pool bar open serving soft drinks and alcohol, and snacks. The waiter could do with smiling occasionally !. We stayed on BB basis, breakfast ok nothing special, but the sugar topped muffins are to die for !!!. Take a coffee and a muffin and sit outside the bar area very relaxing.
Carvoeiro is beautiful especially from a cliff top view, there are many restaurants and bars to choose from catering for all tastes.a visit to Happy's half way down reataurant hill is in our opinion a must, just be prepared for 'The dutchmans' wicked sense of humour. The O Indian on the cliff top was another highlight. Try to get an outside table, the view over the town at night is lovely. The food especially the seekh kebab starter is delicious. We ate out at a different restaurant each night and did not have a bad meal. For entertainment, we had relaxing times in the Havana Bar (Mojito Time) but for a more lively evening go to The Round Up Saloon, (Big Guy on door with Hat). This resort is perfect for a relaxing holiday,

Spent 10 days half board here Sept 2011 myself and hubby (both mature lol) and found the hotel to be very clean, spacious with a nice pool area and a good location. The food was good, ok as people have previously said the coffee machine causes queues but only until people get the hang of it. Plenty of choice for both breakfast and dinner, buffet food was always fresh and not 'mush' like some buffet food. Beds are firm, but this suited me. Air con is really good, and our room was cleaned daily and towels changed. We took our own pool towels, as I think 20 euros deposit is a bit steep - if it went missing I think you would not be pleased to fork out this amount to replace it! Found staff to be friendly, especially if you made the effort to speak to them - after all folks behaviour breeds behaviour eh? Agree there was minimum staff, but I presume this is due to the recession biting. Loved the resort itself and surrounding area, quiet but busy if that makes sense. Felt very relaxed and safe, never saw any loutish behaviour, just people genuinely enjoying themselves. First time to Portugal and it was a very positive experience! Don't hesitate to go to this hotel, I'm sure you will like it.

Room Tip: Think top floor rooms have best views, we were 1st floor and view was fine.

The location of the hotel is ideal, lovely setting, nice pool, lovely room, although it was sometimes six o'clock in the evening before the room was cleaned, but the food ............. breakfast was OK but the evening meal was more like a low end two star, which we only managed twice, couldn't face it a third time, we ate out every other night during our stay. Food was cold, it was chips every night, veg swimming in water and all mixed together, deserts - always jelly ,creme caramel and gateau. So, if you decide to stay here please book only bed and breakfast, the restaurants in the village are a delight, beautiful food, very very clean, pleasant staff and excellent value, both for food and wine. Carvoeiro is a lovely place and I will hopefully visit there again one day.

Room Tip: Book second floor with a sea view - lovely!!!

Good location just outside of resort, good size bedroom but bath very small so if your over 4 feet tall its a struggle and the shower not to brilliant either.Breakfast was ok plenty to choose from but always a long line for the hot drinks. No english channels on TV but were not bothered about that.Good size pool and clean.10 minute walk down to reasort centre where there was free entertainment every evening infront of beach.Best dining was at the Restaurante Gale superb food but need to book it's so popular.Worst restaurant was the TIA ILDA where their idea of chicken Piri Piri was a few scrag end of bones with a bit of meat on and a pile of french fries all for 10 Euro, avoid. All in all a nice little resort if you don't want too much entertainment.

The hotel has some good points - rooms, pool, and, generally speaking, the food. Location also good, although the hill was pretty steep coming up from the beach in the sun at about 4 o'clock!
Downside:
The David Suchet lookalike on the front desk was a liar. He was also unhelpful and inflexible. We arrived at 1.15 after travelling for about 6 hours, so were disappointed to be told that our room was not ready. (See room tips below).
Otherwise the staff were good but too thin on the ground. Room was not cleaned until 4 every day at the earliest - I realise someone has to be last but is a rota system so difficult?
Towels were not changed daily, we could tell by the holes in them.
Hot meals were not labelled, so sometimes you had to kinda guess at what you fancied.
Favoutite game was find the salt - there was maybe one shaker per 10 tables!
And they had no coffee one morning at breakfast.
I would suggest that a manager might be a good idea.
Until this happens, this is not nearly a 4-star hotel.
The resort is nice, the surrounding scenery fabulous. It is very expensive compared to Spain - 10 euros per day for a sun bed! So for a couple that puts £250+ onto a 2-week holiday! Restaurants also pricey, but bars pretty fair pricewise, except for 3 euros for a draft coke in the square.

Room Tip: We asked for a high room when we booked - we got the 1st floor. We asked for a change when we arrive...

Just returned from 10 day holiday here.We had read about all the negative reports re this hotel but thought it was worth a go because of its position.HOW GLAD WERE WE.Firstly the much talked about breakfast:The food is local so do not expect heinz beans or walls sausages!but there was plentiful choice of either cooked breakfast or continental style, because of its buffet style service it is pot luck on temperature of the food but we found if you waited it out you could get hot!also if on the first day you didnt like a particular item then just avoid it the rest of the holiday. The rooms are excellent{think premier inn plus balconies and sun}best rooms are sea view so ask when booking. The standard of cleanliness was brilliant and the maids were efficient and friendly, hotel staff were polite and very helpful{the receptionist even reopened the bar for us because of our very late arrival. The hotel is at the top of restaurant hill and is about 600m from the beach but a casual walk down on a morning takes about 5 minutes to reach the town and the beach. The only down points we found were germans liked to reserve their poolside seats with a towel first thing on a morning. The pool area is very good with a very relaxed atmosphere and a poolside bar.We will be returning ASAP,if you are considering a visit to Carvoeiro then there is no better choice!

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor sea view,it did not cost any more!
