Description: "For authentic Alentejo cuisine in the Algarve, we highly recommend this chilled and cheerful restaurant only minutes away from Praia do Carvoeiro. The cavernous, open-plan dining room at A Vela has a light and breezy nautical theme and a mezzanine dining area, and is decorated with maritime bric a brac, sea-blue chairs and whitewashed walls. The café-style ambience is buzzy and fun, and the menu varied and reasonably priced. Classic dishes at A Vela include the black pork served with fresh vegetables and potatoes baked with melted cheese; the salad 'Caprese' style with tomato, mozzerella and oregano; and the suckling pig roasted in a wood oven – and the restaurant also offers vegetarian and children's menus. 5 of us ate here twice last week firstly on Monday, then on Wednesday. On the first visit, we had several Cataplanas. Full of fish, razor clams! Good wine recommendations at reasonable prices. However on Wednesday we booked for the suckling pig. The 2 staff members were very busy and we waited quite a while. However it was worth the wait. Good food and service at reasonable prices. Worth a visit!

We have passed this restaurant on a number of occasions but not fancied it. However on our latest visit we noticed new furniture and glass screening had improved the 'kerb appeal' so we decided to give it a go. We're really pleased we did. The food was really good and Antonia (the owner) made us feel really welcome.
We liked it so much the first time we went a second and it was as good with different dishes. If you want a mains but with some adjustment it seems that they have that flexibility also.
We will go again on our next visit to Carvoiero.

Had wanted to try this place on a number of occasions and finally managed this year. Certainly worth it with dishes a little different from those on offer elsewhere. Food was exceptionally tasty and catered for all tastes. Service was friendly and informative. The restaurant itself is lovely with a beautiful seaside vibe in its decor. Would recommend highly.

Late choice to eat out, and a good one. Friendly staff, Antonia and her waitress, excellent food - I had the black pork - and good house wine. Good atmosphere and a very enjoyable evening.at a reasonable price. Would definitely return.

We ate here twice and it was the best of all the restaurants we ate in Carvoeiro. The waiting staff were fantastic and the food was of high quality. I risked eating octopus one night and it was absolutely delicious! Our extended family ate there on our recommendation and all thoroughly enjoyed it including our toddler who devoured the spaghetti bolognese even though he is a fussy eater. Highly recommended if you love great food and reasonably priced too!
