“Excellent Portugese Food. Friendly proprietors”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

From the road it can appear as a dusty restaurant next to Rocha Brava.Do not be deceived , the food is excellent , wines (mainly Portugese Hooray) are well chosen and plenty of outside terrace seating.
The menu features fish and shellfish with predictably excellent Gambas .Changing fish choices and first courses including the eternal Portugese offering of soup , good figs with air dried ham or 3 or 4 other options.
The main courses include local lamb and a chicken piri piri that will do wonders for sale of mineral water but who can resist it?
Puddings include fresh strawberries , orange cake and if memory is correct, cheese.
The staff are friendly and everyone speaks English,if you are in no rush do let them know and they will slow the tempo.
Owner and his wife are friendly and will recommend a wine without trying to talk you up.

Top Tip: Credit cards are not accepted so take cash , one feels sorry for the proprietors facing 23% Vat (included in reasonable prices not an extra) and can see why it is cash only at present.

If staying at Rocha Brava leave your car at the entrance car park and walk the 200 yards to the restaurant (turn left on leaving RB) and no worries about the breathalyser.

Will we eat again when in the area? Yes

“Lovely Lovely food”
Reviewed 16 June 2014

My partner drove past the restaurant and decied we will eat there that night. We didnt book a table which was not the best Idea, so if you do decide to eat here, book first.

The waiter was a bit annoyed at us for not booking, but he still provided a good level of service.

The steak was absolutley Amazing, best steak I have ever eaten in my life. I would highly recommend this restaurant!

“Nice meal”
Reviewed 30 May 2014

Had a meal here one night whilst staying at the Rocha Brava holiday village, it is only 200m down the road. As mentioned by other reviews the background music may need updating. The night we were their, it was very quite, we chose to eat outside and it became very cool and breezy, which made it a little uncomfortable and our food cooled very quickly. The staff were very very friendly and pleasant, the food and drink were good and a similar price to all the local establishments, we had two fine big steaks at €16 each. Not a huge selection on the menu, but enough to keep most happy. But certainly go again, but may sit inside if cool outside

“Consistently good.”
Reviewed 20 January 2014

Always had a good meal here on our winter visits, with friendly service.
You need to sit opposite the fire as it gets chilly and the restaurant is large, but they always maintain the logs.
A reasonable menu selection, decent wine and the chef is always happy to chat at the end of the meal.
If you have a problem with TV,s in restaurants don't go to portugal, they usually turn the sound off and you can usually find a seat out of view ,

“Gone Downhill”
Reviewed 6 November 2013

Oh dear, we have been coming here for a few years as a party of 10 but this visit we were most disappointed. The waiter was the worst! Our party arrived on time, there were no other diners in the restaurant but he was so miserable and unwelcoming. The food was acceptable, although the avocado prawn starter contained more salad leaves and less avocado & prawns than it used to. The Piri Piri chicken was still bleeding but the waitress soon rectified this. Overall, food OK but unless the surly waiter sorts out his attitude we won't be going back.
