Perfect city mixed with old world charm and intimacy. Great great great food. Be careful if young boys on bike pass- hold on to purse. But I had no problems. This place appeals to history buffs, shoppers, romance, boating, exploring close island and beaches and parks. Has it all

Well kept and tidy, not a large area but just right to see some nice shops and grab a coffee or a little lunch in one of the pretty cafes.

Well worth spending some time exploring this outstanding area of Faro. Lovely little lanes offering some hidden gems. Lots of bars and restaurants. The Se Cathedral must be visited

This was a great experience, the only people there are tourists (some Portuguese) and it was lovely to amble around.

Stayed at Faro in June 2017. Used airb&b in the old castle/walled city. Excellent food all around (but watch your bill for un-ordered add-ons... experienced this at only one restaurant in the old city). Beautiful scenery. This town is a hidden gem!

Visited on a dull day. The cathedral was surprisingly ornate inside compared with external view. 68 steps to top of tower well worth the effort. Reasonable entry price enabled entry to chapel of bones (An external room with relics) the museum, tower and cathedral. Pleasant walk around external walls.

Small in size but a lot of history from the Muslim occupation to catholic reclaiming this town has a great deal to see. We started with a tour guide from Tours by Locals who has lived in Faro all her life

She showed us the cathedral as well as the special wall entrances dating to the time that the Muslims lived in the walled town. The cathedral is a must with an incredible organ with oriental style painting which is only seen on this organ.

A trip to the Archéologique museum is a must. We also recommend spending a little extra for the Fado story and show which included a Port to enjoy at the end.

Wonder the little side streets and exit through a different gate for another view of the town

Beautiful old town steeped in history dating back to the Moorish seat of the king. A wonderful insight into the old arab world changing into the Portuguese one. Best to walk around. The little train tour is not good. Lovely restaurants to be found in the old town. One with a well in the centre and a waiter more knowledgable than most tour guides
