“Nice Building with Average Exhibits”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2014

Seeing the building itself is worth paying the fairly cheap entrance fee (only 1 or 1.50 Euros for students.) The exhibits were average in my mind, but worth a visit nonetheless.

“Intriguing Museu Municipal De Faro”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 March 2014

The small but interesting Museu Municipal De Faro is housed in a former convent in the old quarter and comprises several galleries of religious paintings, Roman and Moorish stone memorial plaques, a temporary exhibition of cinema posters and a small collection of Moorish household artifacts.

The highlight for me was the intriguing collection of paintings (with free loan of an English guidebook) depicting some of the mythical (enchanted) stories of the Algarve. Well worth the incredibly cheap entrance fee of two Euros for a visit lasting, for me, just under two hours.

While you are there you might like to take a look around you at the stunning architecture of the convent itself.

“Beautiful Building with Very Good permanent and Temporary Exhibits”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 March 2014

We were lucky in the timing of our visit in that we saw the fascinating paintings of Carlos Porfírio. The written explanations of the folk lore associated with Moorish occupation of the Algarve were very helpful. We were unlucky in that the Mosaic Room was still not open (due to be opened mid March). However, there is a great deal to see here, particularly the Roman artefacts. It was our third visit here and we shall return in Mid March.

“Spent ages here”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 January 2014

I work in a museum so I am always interested in the quality of museums we visit. This one was in a wonderful old building, well displayed and labelled and with friendly helpful staff. There were two super temporary exhibitions- one a collection of nativity sets with some really humorous ones, and the other of paintings of local legends. Explanations are in Portuguese and English. The collection of religious paintings had some gems.
