“Great value for money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 June 2013

Staying in the hotel for one night to change our flights in Faro, we found hotel to be very closed to airport (taxi 10 EUR) and to be a great value for money. Rooms are spacious, clean, well equiped. Stuff is very nice and helpfull. Free breakfest is fresh and good. Our only dissapointment was the noise in the hotel, if people next door speak a bit loudly, you can hear them, once somebody slam the door, whole hotel knows it, so the noise may be the issue - all depending about other guests..

For the standard the hotel offers it was quite chip. The rooms are nice, clean and spacious with big windows, breakfast was good with variety of food to choose from. Staff nice and helpful - pritned us all the maps we needed, gave all the clues. The only drawbeck is location - near the highway quite far from the city, however as it's very chip to rent the car in Faro it's not a big problem. The noise from highway is not the problem too - because the windows are soundproof - hoever if you have a room with windows directly on the highway side - be prepare you won't like to open it - because of the noise and dirt of the street.

The hotel is quite near to the airport at Faro. It would be possible to walk to the airport and I reckon it would take 30 minutes walking briskly.
It's slightly odd in that the reception is not easy to find, no signage etc. When we did eventually find it, it's somewhat drab and not a good introduction. There were two sets of people waiting in front of us to be checked in. I've never waited so long to be checked in anywhere. It's far too long a process at this hotel. The upper levels are accessed via a staircase; there appears to be no lifts. I glanced up to the top of the stairs as we were waiting to be checked in and noted two lady members of staff leaning over the banisters looking down at us. They were dressed in what appeared to be nurses uniform from afar and I wondered what type of establishment this was. However, once checked in, one of the nurses duly appeared, offering to carry our luggage to our room, but we declined this, conscious that there would be an expected charge!
The rooms are light and airy, of a good size, and clean too. The bathroom is a good size but devoid of an electric shaver point or hairdryer. The light switch that controlled one of the bathroom lights needed replacing as it was cracked. There is a real problem at this hotel with the hot water. It is not hot enough for a bath. We mentioned this to the staff and they said we needed to run it for a long period. Of course we'd tried all that to no avail. She said to try later and if no better then to contact her again. It was no better later on so we contacted her again and were told nobody could fix it until tomorrow. Of course we'd be gone by then. I improvised by filling the waste bin bucket in the bathroom with water and using my mini boiler to boil the water to add to the bath. If you really enjoy a nice soak in a hot bath then this hotel will definitely not cut it for you.
There is a standard lamp in the room but it wasn't working and I found that this was due to the electric socket being dead. There were four flies having a ball in the centre of the room and so We had to get rid of them. You don't often see flies in hotel rooms.
we had to leave very early and we informed the staff of this and they said we would be able to have breakfast before we left at 7am. There was tea, coffee, cereal, ham, breads, cheese, whole apples, yoghurts, peaches, pears, jam, butter, honey and marmalade. Pretty bland but quite ok. There was no orange juice but there looked to be a container there for it to be placed into.
The hotel is ok despite all I have said. It's modern, perhaps a little tired in places and the reception/check-in needs some serious revision.
The hotel is right beside a busy trunk road to the front and to the rear there is countryside with some detached properties surrounding it. Very unfortunately there are two barking dogs close by which I find really frustrating and annoying. They were not barking at night but they were for long periods during the day. Noise-wise it is remarkably easy to hear people in the attached rooms. That doesn't bother me much, but barking dogs do. We were at the rear of the hotel so I cannot comment how good or bad the road noise is at the front of the hotel. The windows are double-glazed.
There is a restaurant attached to the hotel and its prices are pretty good as is its food. However, be careful here. We ordered our soups and a main course from the menu. A basket arrived on the table with two baps in plastic bags, a bowl of olives, a plate with a piece of cheese cut up on it, some pate and butters. We thought this might be part of the soup course but it was an extra and one that wasn't cheap. I noticed that customers on other tables had simply left theirs intact and so I assume that they weren't charged for them.
We decided to take a taxi to the airport and the staff on reception kindly called one for us and it arrived in minutes, The cost was 5.80 euros (April 2013)

We chose this hotel through booking.com, which is not a good idea. Upon arrival in Faro we spent 30 min trying to find it even with an on board gps. The hotel is unassuming and the welcome somewhat tepid, and the rooms are all on the first floor via a spiral stair case. However, the rooms are extremely clean, very large and perfectly equipped. Each room looks out on to the main highway leading to the airport with a view of a shabby used car lot over the highway. Despite this, we were only there for 1 night so it didn't matter. Fortunatelly, the owners have thought of the sound proofing and installed 2 double glazed windows so you hear absolutely nothing outside. The good side was the quality of the bed and the installations, and the excellent buffet breakfast. For the price, this is excellent value. Just don't go if charm, decoration and location are important to you. It is three kilometers from the city and the only thing of interest in Faro is the old walled town which is worth half a day for a visit.

We stayed here on the recommendation of other Tripadvisor travellers as our flight arrived late into Faro airport and we needed somewhere near and decent to stay. We were not disappointed. Our room was large, well equipped, clean and very nice. The hotel was quiet and breakfast decent. It's nothing special but it is very good value for money and certainly did the job for us. Recommended. Also should say that the receptionists spoke very good English which was appreciated.

The Frangaria Hospedaria is one of the most pleasant hotels I have stayed in. The staff could not do enough for you and always with a smile. Do not be put off by its functional rather than inviting exterior. for once you are inside service reigns. We booked a large room, which was if anything too large, Not a problem we were moved to a standard bedroom , for the Frangaria that is , as it was still bigger than most hotel rooms. Having the restaurant adjoining the hotel was very convenience and we ate there quite often.
The local bust stop is a few minutes away with a regular service and we used it quite often. Certainly more interesting a than a a cab. My wife an I have no qualms about recommending it.

One negative it does not have a lift and there are no ground floor rooms. However the friendly staff will deal with your luggage

Room Tip: If there are just two of you beware that the large rooms are Really large.
