Sensimar Lagos by Yellow
Ranked #5 of 53 Hotels in Lagos
Certificate of Excellence

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a 10 night stay at the hotel. We always use Trip Advisor so thought we would share a few handy tips if you're thinking of visiting the hotel! (Book it its amazing!)

The hotel definitely lives up to its 5* rating. Its really impressive and set just a 2 minute walk to the beach (across a road) There isn't much else to do around the hotel but Lagos is just a 10 minute taxi ride away or you can take the beach route which takes about 25 minutes. The hotel is well established so if you're looking for a place to relax and unwind this is your hotel!

We were a little worried about the food at the hotel after reading a few of the previous reviews but it was excellent. We were booked in on a half board basis and breakfast alone was almost enough to see you through. They have everything from champagne to freshly prepared omelettes and a huge variety of fruit and hot dishes.

The evening meal was just as impressive with various hot and cold dishes, a vast salad bar, and cheese and biscuits for those that don't have a sweet tooth. I can highly recommend the cake!

We spent most of our time up at the infinity pool which was kept spotlessly clean. Each sun lounger has its own pillow and they often had live music (nothing heavy just a duo playing on their guitars) or quiet music playing in the background. The staff kept to pool area picture perfect moving any unused sun loungers back in to place to keep everything looking just perfect.

Unfortunately we had a day of rain but the hotel has a spa and indoor pool so we took full advantage of relaxing inside.

The room was five star, it was modern, clean, relaxing and lived up to the pictures. The bed was the comfiest we have stayed in and the black out curtains ensure you get a good night sleep without the interruptions of the early morning sun. We had a huge bath tub almost in the middle of the room with a double vanity unit and large wet room with the most amazing rain shower. We noticed that there are a few rooms with their own infinity pools at the top of the hotel so if you want something extra special it might be worth looking in to this.

A couple of negatives just to even things out. The service in the restaurant is slightly hit and miss. We were often left with dirty plates on the table or left without a drink. They could do with some extra staff to keep on top of people coming in and out of the restaurant. They also have some younger staff that work in the Italian restaurant/bar by the infinity pool aren't very good and could hear them moaning in their native tongue! Sometimes the service is exceptional and sometimes it is poor, the poor staff were consistently poor but the good staff were consistently helpful, polite, interactive and helped make the holiday experience to match the hotel's standard.

The wifi in the hotel is rubbish! I read similar reviews and thought 'why would I use the wifi on holiday' but even just to check emails etc was hard work. The wifi in the lobby is slightly better but still not great.

** Top tips **

Happy Hour
There is a happy hour at the bar from 7 - 8:30 where all drinks are half price. We would buy a couple of drinks from there or bottle of wine and take it down to the restaurant with us. The offer also applies to water and soft drinks and they don't question how many you buy.

Local shop
A gentleman came up with the great idea of putting a small shop in his house about a 10 minute walk from the hotel. He sells wine, beer, water, snacks etc at a really cheap price (bottle of rose approx €3) As the nearest supermarket is in Lagos this became our local shop. There's a fridge in the room so we bought a few packs of water and kept them in there thought the week.

Key cards
Make sure you get two keys cards when you check in so that you can leave one in the switch when you are out as the fridge, sockets and air-con turn off so you will come back to a warm room, warm fridge and nothing re-charged otherwise.

Hair dryer
Girls the hair dryer in the room is great, its not a travel size instead a big powerful hair dryer so don't worry about including that in your luggage.

Special Meal
If you want an extra special meal we would suggest Restaurante Dos Artistas in Lagos (http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g189117-d1117360-Reviews-Restaurante_dos_Artistas-Lagos_Faro_District_Algarve.html). Book in advance to get the beautiful outside terrace. The food was amazing and the service was good. The menu was quite limited but that being said we liked the sound of nearly all of it and opted for the tasting menu.

We hope you found this information useful and enjoy your stay at the hotel as much as we did.

Room Tip: We had a room with a pool view which was actually also a view of the beach. Would definitely recomm...

What a hotel!!! I cannot believe that anyone would give this Hotel less than 5 Stars! Great high tech rooms, 3 pools, great location next to one of the best beaches in the area, and freshly cooked eggs & CHAMPAGNE for breakfast! I have travelled to many countries and stayed at countless Hotels, and this is by far the greatest value for money hotel! I have stayed at many hotels claiming to be 5 or 4 stars in Europe especially, but this is truly is 5 stars at least!!!! I wish we were still there......

Fantastic Hotel & in my opinion great value for money, yes some 5 star hotels have slightly sharper service (but accordingly you are not paying Hyatt or Sheraton prices), but in a holiday location a nice professional relaxed and friendly service is what you want, and the team at Yellow Lagos certainly deliver.
The hotel was impeccably clean, with great facilities and the rooms utterly first class, the restaurant and bar team were very professional and friendly, they had a relaxed informal approach.

My Fiancée & I travelled as a package with Thomson, the service provided by resort team including Kerry, Chris & John (the Musicians) made the holiday, very friendly and genuine people who went out of their way to stand in the heat and chat whilst we relaxed and chilled.

Unfortunately some other guests openly went out to pick fault sitting at tables that had not been set, and then photographing a stained table cloth... why not sit down at a table which was set (there were always plenty). If that’s you're idea of enjoying yourself on holiday I would stay at home were you can moan to yourself.

We could not recommend the Yellow Lagos highly enough and look forward to returning hopefully before the end of the summer!

On the strength of the reviews left for this hotel, we booked ourselves in for a four night trip away. It was pure bliss and the peace and quiet was just what the doctor ordered! If you want a quiet relaxing 'adults only' holiday, in fabulous five star surroundings, then this is the place for you. All the staff were friendly, helpful and had amazing English; the hotel and rooms were definitely 5 star and the food choices for breakfast and evening meal were always delicious. I would definitely go back again and would highly recommend it to anyone.

If you want service good food and good entertainment then this is not the hotel for you I can't stress how bad it is and they don't care neither you will have to cue up at the bar for a drink for ages listen to two guitarist playing and singing the same old songs night after night and badly done too. Asked to speak to the manager to complain and he told me it was hard to get staff but no surprise they as they are only paying 300 to 400 euro a month so your not going to get the service when they are only paying that don't go for the al carte as the starter and desert you get is what you get in the buffet room that you have already paid for in your half board me and my wife would never go back to this hotel which is a shame because the hotel and rooms are really nice just the shame the rest was not we have just got back on 21st July

We arrived on the 30th June 2013...on arrival we thought it looked very classy..our room was perfect..loved the open plan bathroom, but thought new couples may have struggled!!..the room was always cleaned by 11am(we did make use of please makeup room sign)..the food was as we always expect on holiday...a varied choice at breakfast and dinner,...I'm a fussy eater so happy aslong as i get lots of salad and veg..my husband likes his meat and was quite happy.
The 2 pools were both lovely, poolside was very clean and tidy and there were plenty of beds, some people got up at the crack of dawn to put their towels out but really not necessary...
The hotel is designed with adults only in mind and was lovely for us grandparents to have a child free holiday..
The hotel is more than 30 mins walk from main town but taxis are very easy to get from reception and very cheap..
We would highly recommend this holiday and the Thompsons rep Aileen was delightful...

Room Tip: We had a pool view but as on top floor had a good view of the sea without the extra cost...rooms num...

My wife and I spent a week here at the end of May. We had holidayed in the Algarve many years previously when the kids were young so knew the area and had visited Lagos but this hotel was only built in 2011/2012. Its fantastic!! Very modern and beautifully furnished, huge king size beds and fabulous walk-in shower with separate stand-alone bath. Our side room had a partial sea view but was fine, very quiet and peaceful which we wanted. There are a number of pool view rooms and these seemed fine and certainly when we were there would also be quiet enough for a good night's sleep.
The 2 outdoor pools and indoor pool were impeccably clean and there were always more than enough sunbeds with parasols and covered seating.
The hotels' location was perfect for us, about a 30 minute stroll to Lagos and the Marina which we enjoyed as a break and for some mild exercise!
The food was an 8.5 out of 10 - the choice at breakfast was always pretty good and was plentiful, probably because breakfast was spread over a 2 hour window.
The happy hour - 7-8 o'clock was enormously popular, so much so that the three bar staff were overun and you often had a 10 miniute wait standing 4 deep at the bar!!
Evening meals were sometimes disappointing, the main courses of meats or fish often ran out and there was a wait for them to be replenished. And sweets - my wife's failing!! - were often unavailable.
This restauraunt needs a top class maitre d'ea, the staff are very friendly and helpful but seemed to be in training mode!

All in all this was a great holiday, we wanted a quiet hotel with good service and nice staff and we got it and , the acid test...........yes we will return.
