“Wonderful hotel”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

We have just arrived home after 11 nights at this beautiful hotel.
The hotel itself is wonderfully clean, very modern, good food, beautiful bedrooms, fabulous rain shower and free standing bath, fluffy pillows, great staff, large pool (if a bit cold), free fridge, free safe, comfy sun beds and a wonderful white sandy beach with a crystal clear sea just a stones throw away.
We walked to Lagos several times by walking down the to beach, turn right at the sea and then just keep going for about 30 mins, we also used the trains which only cost €1.40 each way but actually the walk is so pleasant we opted for that most of the time. Lagos is a lovely place with lots to do, shopping, eating and drinking, boat trips around the coves and caves and a lovely marina. The town has a lovely vibrant feel, quite upmarket and well kept. We ate out some nights at an Indian called Komal, a steak house called Don Torro and a tapas bar called Limos. Our meals for 2 ranged from €50-80 but the food and atmosphere were great. A taxi home at night was €7.
If you want a quiet adult only hotel with a touch of luxury, a clean white sandy beach and crystal clear sea on the door step, a lovely seaside town a short trip away with plenty of attractions then this place could be for you.
We enjoyed the food, we are big fans of fresh seafood of which there was plenty. Some nights the vegetable option was a bit lacking but we opted for the wonderful array of salad options instead. We broke the repetitiveness up a bit by eating out a few times but it's not necessary if you prefer to eat in house, you will find something to enjoy. We thought there was plenty of choice, it was well cooked, hot and fresh. It was a shame that the dress code at dinner wasn't met, many guests in shorts and beachwear which brought the tone down a bit but there did not seem to be a manager about so no effort was made to keep up the standards. I think a certain dress code for a 5 star hotel should be respected.

Now for the moany bit!
I hate to complain after such a fabulous holiday as it was an absolute treat.

The biggest gripe for us has to be the entertainment, not for us at all. We've now visited a few Thomson adult only or Couples hotels and they seem to assume we are are dead from the ears down. We are mid 40s and still enjoy concerts, live music, comedy nights and decent dance music. Please lay something on for the younger couples and those, like us, that are young at heart. A contemporary music area would be nice as an alternative, the hotel is very modern but the entertainment is, for us, old hat. The other gripe is the bar costs. Two spirits came to €15-17 and they were just standard UK measures. We have no issue with spending money on holiday but when you witness costs for drinks outside the hotel you do start to feel a little bit ripped off. We drank in town or at the beach bar near the hotel for less than half the price. We're not big drinkers, I suspect if you are, you may also want to drink elsewhere or your bill at the end of the holiday could be a stinger.
Water from the little shop down the road and to the left is very reasonable, they stock most essentials. Water is not provided by the hotel except for the first bottle in your room. For a 5 star hotel I think basic drinking water should be provided within the cost of the holiday.

We had room 325, facing the top pool, which also faces the sea. We had a lovely view and sun all afternoon and evening. We recommend the boat trip around the coves and caves, a great photo taking opportunity. This part of the Algarve is breath taking.

Would we go again. Yes, certainly, it's a lovely hotel in a prefect location. I was going to give it 4 stars but just can't mark it down for drink prices alone, you have a choice to pay it or drink elsewhere. Dress code also needs to be looked at to bring it up to 5 star dining standards.
The Thomson girls were lovely, the best yet.

Room Tip: Pool view rooms also face the sea so no need to pay extra for a sea view. Sound proofing seemed ok...

We had such a fabulous holiday at the yellow lagos last year we decided to return again this year. The hotel is ultra modern and spotlessly clean. The food was quite nice and plenty of choice.
Just across the road from the hotel is a beautiful sandy beach that goes on for miles .
Lagos is approx 20 mins walk along the beach or five mins on the train costing 1 euro 40 each. Lots of little bars and resturants well worth visiting.
On the down side on arrival there was a mix up with our reservation/ room, which we had to sort out ( not a good start to the holiday). We were promised a bottle of wine for the mix up, but never got it .
You are given a time slot for meals, never had to do this before,we managed to change ours to a later sitting.
Tea/coffee/ milk was not replenished in room.
There are NOT enough sunbeds for guests causing arguments around the pool. Some guest had to put their towels on the grass to lye on.
In the evening there was a singer who was quite good but night after night it got pretty boring.
All in all the hotel has definitely gone down bank from last year. Not five star service. Unfortunately we will not be returning .

Stayed here for 2 weeks in June/July having read a lot of mixed reviews. Again I can only re-iterate that the actual hotel in terms of rooms, decor and facilities was excellent. The food was mostly ok, I can be choosy, but there was never a meal that I couldn't find something to eat. What was disappointing was the lack of bars and restaurants around the area, which meant that unless you went into Lagos in the evening you were pretty much stuck in the hotel - which then meant paying hotel prices for drinks. The hotel entertainment was poor, in comparison to other Thomson Couples hotels we have stayed at, little variety over the 2 week period. N

We booked this hotel in May for 2 weeks in July. The reviews all commented on the food so we were surprised at how nice the food actually was, the meat is cooked to perfection and is very tasty.

When we arrived the hotel is as everyone says lovely. The rooms are very nice, large rain shower, large free standing bath and very comfy bed. However, the wardrobe space is lacking 3 very small drawers and no iron in the room or available at reception. I find this very strange.

Also we did not get our sheets changed for 1 week, this is not 5 star service. The maid the first week did not hoover properly as we had a leaf/flower petal on the floor for a week. Again this is not 5 star behaviour. Some other small things that make this. Good 4 start not a 5 star is the lack of dress sense in the restaurant for dinner, 1 bottle of water when we arrived, we would have expected 1 per day and a service charge I couldn't believe that this is added also now I know why people were going to the bar for their own drinks.

The staff are extremely nice in the hotel in all areas apart from the main pool bar, Jimmy v d is the rudest person I have ever come across so avoid him where possible the other staff though are lovely.

This is a nice hotel but is definitely not a 5 star.

Staying a the yellow hotel for a week. Up to now weather has been amazing with a nice breeze most days. Now the hotel. As previous people have said rooms are clean & modern with cold fridge and the staff are very polite. However, no wifi in our room so we had to go to reception area. Not sure if this was the case in all rooms.
The restaurant area lacks atmosphere although staff are very nice. Although we were told on the coach to dress up for evening meals, many wear shorts, flip flops and t shirts. Is this cool for a 5 star hotel ??
Food: most is ordinary but occasionally you will find something with flavour. If you enjoy good food then this hotel may not be for you. Deserts are hit and miss. There are lots of fresh fruits at breakfast time.iManagement, if you read this please add flavour to your food and make it a real 5 star hotel. 5 star cuisine it is not. Hotel has some nice wines and the guys at the bar know cocktails. Generally, drinks appear to be on the lower alcohol side. Hotel has a good indoor pool, somedays warm, and an outside bar by the lower pool serving snacks but the price of bottled warmer is expensive.
Reception told us taxi to Lagos would be between €5 - €7, we paid €10 going out but only €7.90 coming back. Rooms are kept very clean, balcony's are a generous size. There are no children here, unlike hotel's that say ''no children" but don't mean it. Adults here are of all ages.

Room Tip: Upper rooms facing out to sea are private & quiet eg 245 to 251

We stayed here early August for a week on half board basis through Thomson Holidays. This is a very modern hotel with lots of glass and white marble, excellent well appointed rooms with 7ft beds, double basins, novel separate wc/bidet and walkin shower, tv, fridge and seating area. All rooms appear to have either a pool or beach view but I might be wrong. Suites on the 5th floor have their own deck and plunge pool. The staff are generally excellent, friendly and helpful although as others have said, bar service can be a bit slow but nothing that a generous tip can't sort out. The a/c failed one night but fixed the next. The breakfasts are excellent - full hot or generous cold selection or both with champagne or bucks fizz for those needing a lift. Dinners have a choice of at least four main dishes, excellent salad and desert bar. The main courses are a little bland occassionally but better than you should expect for the price. There is also an a la carte restaurant on site. On the whole, well run and well deserved of praise. Only criticism is the slight shortage of sunbeds around the two large pools.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, go for a suite.

Had our two week honeymoon at the Yellow Lagos hotel and we were delighted with our stay. The hotel is very impressive both inside and out. We were given a pool view room which had a small balcony area and an outdoor bed. We were also pleased to find a bottle of champagne and fruit on arrival to our room for our honeymoon- very nice touch. The bedrooms are extremely nice, very clean and modern looking.
The pool area is really nice and relaxing. We tended to stay by the pool on the second floor which again, was very clean and modern. The pool area is very quiet and the pool is often empty, this is probably because it is one of the coldest pools I have ever been in! It is nice after a bit of sunbathing but it does cool you down immediately! We didn’t find sunbeds an issue. Some people do put their towels down early but even by the time we finished breakfast at 10-10:30, there were still sunbeds available.
We rarely used the pool bars as we found them a bit expensive, but when we did go, the service was good and efficient.
We were a little bit unsure of what to expect with the food as we had read quite a few negative reviews with regards to the breakfast and evening meal buffet. We found breakfast very good, there was everything you could possibly want for your breakfast (hot and cold), and more! I’m not sure what else they could add to make it better! We only chose to eat 4 times at the ‘kitchen, the buffet was still ok but we found the restaurants in Lagos much better, with much more choice. The buffet tended to consist of soups and salads for starters, a choice of 4 meat dishes for the mains (2 of which were usually fish), and plenty of accompaniments for examples chips, potatoes, salads, pasta, rice etc. The highlight of the buffet, for me, was the deserts! Lots of choice and very high standard!
As mentioned earlier, we chose to go into Lagos most evenings. We found the public transport very easy to use and got the local bus (no.2) to go in and out of Lagos, which stops right outside the hotel. The bus only takes about 5 minutes to get to the Marina, or about 15 to get into the centre of Lagos. The train is faster (4 minutes I think) or you can walk along the sea front which takes about 40 minutes. Lagos is a lovely town with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants.
All in all an excellent holiday. I would definitely recommend this beautiful hotel to anyone!

Room Tip: Pool side and sea view rooms are nice and have good views. To keep A/C on all day, and be able to...
