I don't normally write hotel reviews but this was such a marvellous experience that I want to pass back our impressions in gratitude for a wonderful week.
Firstly, we are early retirees who enjoy quiet luxury when we can get it, we are not madcap party animals or dedicated sun worshippers. We like an interesting coastline to explore on foot, nice beaches to discover, interspersed with occasional poolside laziness. The Cascade Resort sits on the Ponta Piedade peninsular which is one of the most scenic coast views in Portugal, and probably the World. It is dotted with little coves and sandy beaches, the coast is limestone and sandstone layers weathered by the sea into stacks, arches, caves and sinkholes, all coloured a bewitching yellow and ochre. If there is better coastal scenery anywhere to be accessed within a mile of any hotel we have yet to find it. So, the location is outstanding and full of interest.
The hotel building is immaculate and beautifully maintained (only 3 years old we believe) and our room was beautifully clean, well appointed and the bedlinen a delight. Our room was at the far end of the building, away from central areas and was very quiet at night. The balcony was shaded from the sun which initially disappointed us. However, it was so hot during our stay that we were grateful and really appreciated the cooler outlook as we hid away from the midday heat.
Our stay was breakfast only, but we ate most nights at the Moods casual dining restaurant. Breakfast was stunning, the best fruit spread I have ever experienced, beautiful seeded bread rolls and well stocked with fillings to suit every taste. Plenty of cereals, yoghurts, juices for the health aware. The hot breakfast part was well appointed but the food was left under hot tureens which left some of the food looking a little tired at times. Only a small blip in quality and you always had the choice to order up an omelette or something similar.
The Moods restaurant was the casual dining option and we found this excellent and with a wide variety of meals and prices, from burgers for basic snacks through pastas and pizzas right up to top quality starters, mains and sweets with prices to match. Service was a la carte, no browsing buffet mountains here. The food was uniformly excellent and indeed, we never did use the Senses fine dining restaurant because Moods was so good. It seemed to us that Senses required seriously increased spending only to improve the ambience a touch. On our other nights we enjoyed exploring Lagos, which has it's own range of excellent restaurants and offering a completely different jostling vibe from the Moods and Senses tranquility.
The pool at the hotel was amazing, very well appointed with sunbeds, shades and beautiful towels on demand. The water temperature was great, hardly a flinch needed, and the water so clean. The best pool at a hotel we have encountered and generally both quiet and refined. While we were there there were very few shouty children, or indeed parents. We walked around the apartments and discovered that there was another beautiful pool there too, one that had an artificial sandy shore which was a magnet for the little ones. It worked well to keep the two clientèle's apart, families and peace seekers.
There is a gorgeous beach that you can access only 300 metres from the hotel, it links to Praia de Mos but at the Cascade end it is quiet and fabulously atmospheric, the sea noise is amplified by the beautifully coloured cliffs behind to create a little version of paradise. The occasional naturist provides anatomical interest and a remarkable insight into the effects of sun on vulnerable body parts(tip...not good...) If you can bear that then the beach is an absolute gem, one that the Cascade website makes little feature of.
We slept soundly, ate handsomely, and had an explore of the coast from Lagos to Praia De Luz in between lazy days on beautiful beaches and the gloriously clean swimming pool. Not sure that can be bettered and for us it was just what we needed. The Cascade Resort deserves to be praised and the best we can do to thank everyone there is to thoroughly recommend it to anyone else. Try it and you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Our room was 240 which was quiet and east facing with sea views over the mini golf academy they have...

This is a really classy hotel, decorated to a very high standard and with the best of furnishings, plush carpets and excellent bathrooms. The pool area is quiet, calm and relaxing. However, several things irritated us. First and foremost, the staff were young and inexperienced. They hadn't a clue most of the time. We had to order a drink three times at the pool one day and wait for over an hour and a half before the waiter finally brought it! At dinner one evening there was total confusion. Reception had booked a table for us at 8.30 pm but when we arrived the restaurant had no record of our booking. We had to wait until 9.30 to be served even tho the restaurant was not even half full. There were plenty of staff but none of them seemed to know what they were supposed to be doing. There did not appear to be any senior manager keeping an eye on things. I suspect a lot of the staff were new and untrained.
Our bedroom was on the ground floor facing onto the pool which was very convenient. Unfortunately the room was very dark which gave a sombre feel and it was practically impossible to read in bed due to the dim lighting.
Overall the communal areas in the hotel lacked atmosphere.
A few good points- breakfast was excellent, an extensive selection and plenty of fresh fruit . Lunch served poolside was great but a club sandwich is enough for two people. It is huge and comes with a basket of chips.
The hotel is a good distance from town but normally the hotel runs a free shuttle service. While we were there this was not available but the hotel paid for one return taxi journey each day which was great.

Room Tip: Go for a pool view ground floor room

This hotel is so worth the money! its amazing! We booked it for 3 nights while on our honeymoon visiting the south of portugal. The hotel has a big pool and a very relaxed atmosphere. What really blew our mind way is its beach! An amazing secluded stretch of sand enclosed within large rocks, it looks like a scence from paradise! You need to take note that there is a long flight of stairs to reach the beach and its kinda annoying on the way back up but its sooo worth it! The service is great, you get towels and a beach bag. There is was a photoshooting taking place while we were at the hotel, so there was many beautiful people which made us feel like we were amongst celebrities. The food is great, everyone is very friendly. And most importantly they have a taxi service that drives you to the center whenever you want just ask the receptionist. Its a 8 minutes drive (8 euros) , you can walk as well (around 20 mins but its very hot). TIP: ask the concierge to reserve for you at a restaurant, he recommended a great one for us, it was in town, in a small alley, it fits 30 persons and serves the best authentic portugese food, this restuarant is not one of the big commerical restaurants, it a restuarant for the locals with very cheap prices and amazing white wine selection! Can't wait to go back there again!

Room Tip: Choose the room with sea view! its a must! so worth the extra cash!

We booked a 2 bed apartment at this resort and were extremely impressed with it, it had everything you could possibly want in an apartment, it was large, air conditioned, spotlessly clean. It has a huge balcony with table and chairs & 2 sun loungers, also a roof terrace.
They supply toiletries, dressing gowns, slippers and beach towels. The welcome grocery pack was only a bowl of fruit and a bottle of water (we were expecting a little more) but we asked Claudio for some milk & tea bags which arrived within 5 minutes. The apartments are cleaned daily.

Claudio on reception was without doubt the most helpful man, nothing was too much trouble, in fact all of the staff were very attentive. Bruno in the bar a really exceptional cocktail man and really friendly, also Viktor was lovely. Must also mention Ricardo on reception, again very attentive and eager to ensure you are happy. There are only two girls working at the Spa but we had no problem booking our treatments, which we had 6 in a week and the girls are lovely.

There are 3 pools, the pool at the apartments is slightly cooler than the other 2 but has a sort of mini beach at the shallow end which the younger kids, loved, there is a newly opened pool bar here and John who works there makes the most wonderful strawberry smoothies and is another member of staff this resort should be proud of he told us if we wanted a drink served in the pool it was no trouble although we didnt take him up on this. This pool is not at all busy which is nice.

The hotel pool is busier but still beautiful and big, there are plenty of loungers as well. Bar staff will take your orders pool side as well.

The Spa pool is small but the best temperature again sun loungers all around but it is very quiet, not the best pool for splashing around. All the pools have a huge supply of towels at poolside that are constantly replenished.

The tapas in the bar is excellent, the restaurant behind the bar also fabulous. Breakfast is also excellent although we paid for ours when we had it and the price is 20 euros per person, but you have everything there and can eat as much as you like, you can eat inside or outside which overlooks the hotel pool.

Taxis are very cheap around 5 euros into Lagos old town and its easy getting back and forth, there are lots of bars and restaurants that are really reasonably priced.

The nearest supermarket to the Cascade is a 5 minute drive but probably 15-20 min walk but it has all you need and there is a pharmacy attached.

The Cascade has a nice Gym but it opens at 8.30am which was a little late for us but we managed a few visits.
The complex has free internet connection and has cable tv and you can also book movies.

This was our first experience of Portugal & the Algarve and we were blown away by it we loved Cascade and will definately be returning I cannot recommend this resort highly enough, you will not be disappointed. I am already planning our next visit. Thank you Cascade for a wonderful holiday. : )

Room Tip: We had a 2 bed apartment overlooking the pool which was wonderful

We travelled as a couple and stayed in a self-catering apartment. Beautiful, spacious, nicely decorated apartment - by far the best accommodation we have stayed in. Would have given Cascade five stars if it had not been for the lack of a 'welcome pack' in the apartment to get us started. A small supply of tea, coffee, milk to get us through the first day would have been welcome. There is no shop onsite (not great news for people staying self-catering). The nearest shop is said to be a 'ten minute walk' - it took us twenty minutes and we are not unfit. They also say Lagos is within walking distance - maybe so, if you like power-walking in the heat. The beach is not easily-accessible down a steep set of stairs. Apart from this though we had a thoroughly relaxing ten days here - the staff are very friendly and helpful. Food and drinks a bit expensive - but then definitely five star! I would recommend anyone going here to hire a car, otherwise it is a taxi ride into Lagos as there are no restaurants, bars, shops nearby. Lagos also is a lovely town, full of nice shops, restaurants etc and a beautiful marina. Wifi also very patchy to say the least - not great if you really need to be in touch online. Overall, would most definitely recommend and now we know what to expect, would love to return!

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view apartment or a sea view hotel room.

My wife and I had a wonderful week-long stay at the Cascade resort. The employees there are wonderful and unbelievably helpful. Lagos is a great beach town with incredible Portuguese restaurants. Cascade sits up high on the cliff over Lagos with amazing views and stunning grounds. It's a short walking distance to a handful of great beaches, but their pool area is amazing and tough to leave.

Pros:
The rooms are amazing. They are spacious and luxurious. The bathrooms are huge with a large tub and separate shower. Instead of leaving mints on the pillow when the beds were turned down in the evening, the staff gave us dessert delicacies like lemon tarts or chocolate ganache. The friendly staff went out of their way to help us on everything from restaurant recommendations to transportation to sight-seeing. The views from the grounds are breathtaking because Cascade is at the top of some cliffs overlooking the ocean. The location provided a nice breeze throughout the hot summer day and a gentle breeze in the evening. The pool area is fantastic with comfortable lounge chairs, large towels, and humongous infinity pool, and abundant umbrellas. That combined with the food and drink service at the pool made it tough to leave throughout the day. The breakfast is included in the price of the room and simply amazing. It's a great spread with hot food, lots of fruit, cheeses and meats, grains and cereals, different breads, and desserts as well. We definitely pigged out on the great breakfast every morning. The wi-fi in the rooms was strong and internet connectivity wasn't an issue at all (which is often the case at beach resorts).

The only negative experience we had was with the spa. It was barely ever staffed and rarely open during the day. Getting an appointment was a little difficult and we could tell that the staff was a little put off by how difficult it was for them to get the spa to help the hotel guests. We weren't sure what was going on with it, particularly since the resort highlights its spa services.

Overall we had a great time and want to specifically thank Pedro and Magda for their help throughout our stay. They are wonderful people who went out of their way to make sure my wife and I had a great honeymoon. If you are going to Lagos, you can't do better than the Cascade resort.

Just spent a week here. No hesitation whatsoever in my five star rating. Lovely room, peace and quiet, gorgeous setting, breakfasts to die for and friendly and helpful staff. Not sure what more you could ask for. Next time we are back in the Algarve, we would not hesitate to choose the Cascade resort again. Thank you.
