Having just returned from a 5 day break to this hotel , it must be said , it is a very comfortable , well positioned and well set out establishment. The staff were all friendly , helpful and polite , and the buffet breakfast , plentiful and served up at sensible times .
Our room on the 5th floor had a good view of the Marina , and was clean, comfortable and well serviced .
We didnt try the restaurant at the hotel , as we wished to experience the offerings of all the restaurants to be found in the quaint town itself , and we were not dissapointed .
At virtually the entrance to the hotel , is a bar and restaurant , called Luis,s , which never seems to shut , and caters for anyone who needs anything ! - If you enjoy a cigarette or cigar , you can do so in his one place , whilst next door is smoke free - BRITAIN needs to learn this lesson , as both sides were very busy , and no one MOANED !!
A good choice of hotel if you want to explore the area , or use as a golf base .

Room Tip: 5th floor rooms 504 / 505/506

like the previous couple of reviews we were a little anxious of what to expect - how wrong people can get it! From the arrival to the end of our holiday (there is even a continental breakfast services available from 4am for those with early flights - not a cling filmed roll and cheese!) we have nothing but praise for this hotel and the staff. The reception and public areas are spacious, bright and modern and the bedrooms are clean, spacious (although I do understand not all are) and very well serviced. It still maintains an old Portuguese feeling which to some may look like needing an update, but after travelling many time to Portugal this is in keeping with its "town hotel" image. Just remember Lagos is a town rather than a beach resort, but the frequent free bus service and beach club give it the best of both worlds. Prices are normal for a 4* hotel - don't go to a 4* and expect to pay cheap prices for drinks etc. However the beach club food was fantastic - excellent service and choice and not pricey. The free sunbeds, sun shades and pool towels were all part of the service and saves a great deal of money. The location of the hotel is excellent, 10 minute stroll into town is not a chore and the town is full of atmosphere and excellent restaurants. Please, do not read the negative reports on this hotel - a Hilton this is not, but then again not everyone likes Hiltons! it is quirky, clean and well worth a visit. My only word of caution is for those with mobility problems as this may not be the best hotel to stay in due to its layout, but staff would try their best to accommodate your needs.
I hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did, will certainly be back and soon I hope!

Room Tip: Maybe a garden or city view room would be a better choice.

The Tivoli Hotel location for me was perfect. The hotel was tucked away from the town centre, a little too far some people have mentioned. This 10 minute walk doesn't feel like a chore, strolling in the sunshine, along the picturesque marina, really was lovely, I really enjoyed the walks into town.
The town itself had plenty of restaurants to choose from, and an ample amount of bars.
The nearest beach is about a 20minute walk away, again walking along the marina. But if you're not up for the walk the hotel organises a regular shuttle bus to the beach of Meia Praia, along with the hotels own beach club, and beach loungers.

We had upgraded to a superior room, the size and facilities were excellent, with the room being cleaned on a daily basis.

I found the hotel to be constantly clean and tidy, and the general upkeep of the hotel to be as you'd expect. The vast amounts of lounge areas were always a major positive.

The staff were constantly polite and helpful, couldn't have asked for more from the service.

The only negative I would really say were the pricing of drinks, but that's just being picky.

Really enjoyed my stay here, would highly recommend.

Was a perfect holiday for myself.

Room Tip: Upgrade to 'superior' if possible.

Before going on this holiday I read a few reviews to see what would be expected. I was quite put off by all the negativity, saying how old the hotel was, the walk duration to the town etc.
When we arrived, i was so shocked on how modern and clean the hotel was! most of these reviews are talking nonsense in my opinion, and it must have been something really small to irritate them! also, to mention seagulls, what do you expect for being near to a marina!
Room was spacious and clean. breakfast was lovely and lots of choice. Pool area was nice also.

also small neg....safe had to be paid for, which was an extra 33euros to the hol!

deffo recommended! :)

pretty basic but clean rooms with air con, balcony with nice views over gardens.
Pleasant lounges, corridors, reception, restaurant and other common spaces with character.
Similar interesting gardens and spaces.
Very good large restaurant with excellent choice of breakfast and evening meals, buffet style. Food was always at least good, especially the fish. Polite waiters.

One of the very few hotels in Lagos that is close to the town centre - pleasant walk along the river promenade and you are there, nice place with quite a bit of character, good to wander about.

Not located near the beach, but there is a frequent bus going from the hotel to it's own private area of the massive beach, where you can use the loungers for free, and use the hotel's own beach club and pool for a charge. Hotel provides towels.

The Tivoli is an extensive sprawling hotel complex set fairly centrally in Lago (NOT on the beach!). I have stayed on two separate occasions. The building feels slightly tired in places, but overall it is pleasant, although slightly warren-like. The air conditioned rooms have balconies, many facing gardens or the pools. Decor is showing its age, with old wooden cupboards and clunky televisions. The location feels secure, and the complex appears to be popular with slightly older guests, seemingly more couples than families. Free regular transfers are provided to their beach club, which is very popular. Additionally, the included plentiful breakfast is a bit bland, but ok, despite nasty coffee, and you can eat outside on a terrace if you wish (and can find a spot).
However, everything else at the Tivoli is NOT included, and this started to annoy me after a while. Need Internet access for your phone or computer? It's 9 euros a day for the poorly functioning wifi access (although they have a couple of free terminals in the Lobby). Want to use the gym or sauna? Another 5 euros per visit. Same for the in-room safe. For the money, these sorts of basic things should really be included in a four star hotel package. Its a 300 room hotel with no more than 30 loungers around the pool, so bear that in mind if you intend to hang out there all day with your book. For that type of trip, it would not be my choice, but as a base it works quite well still.
