“Great london getaway for couples”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

These apartments offer the perfect getaway. You can relax by the pool with free wifi and good music playlists. The breakfast was really good (except the orange juice, which is more like a sugary syrup).

The staff was friendly enough to upgrade our room after being disappointed by the "city view".
We ended up with a bigger room and pool view.

There is an inside pool/jacuzzi/gym/sauna/steam room as well.

I recommend having a rental car from Faro airport to get around easily, although some amazing beaches are only 15mn walk away.

Very relaxing, highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Make sure you get pool view (amoma does not specify well)

We stayed here with our 4 month old baby for one week this June and could not complain about anything. The staff were friendly, very helpful and accommodated all of our requests (pool view, south facing balcony and travel cot). The apartment was spacious and very clean and the room was serviced very well everyday. The balconies have high walls so offer nice privacy. There is no shortage of umbrellas or sun loungers and the pools seemed clean and well maintained (If you have a baby, bring a wetsuit as the water is cold). We only ate in the hotel once( Pizza - which was nice) but the breakfast didn't look very exciting. There was no noise problems from construction work or the bar area as mentioned in other reviews and our baby never had any problems sleeping. The location of the hotel is excellent (but make sure you ask the staff for the short route into the old town). The free parking is plentiful and safe which is an excellent perk. We only paid €500 for the week so did not expect luxury but it was much better than expected. We found it to be excellent value for money and would not hesitate to return.

Room Tip: Don't get a city view room, pool view all the way.

I just got back from a three night stay here. We booked a self catering apartment for our stay in Lagos. The best thing about this place was definitely the location; a short walk to some gorgeous beaches, a mini supermarket just around the corner, walking distance from the centre.

It definitely served our needs although we could've done with a kettle and an iron in the room. Kind of dissapointing that you have to pay extra for the safe though. There were three of us sharing, it was a one bedroom apartment and they pushed two single beds together. We didn't complain as it was a short stay and we were all girls but they could've provided more bedding for the sofa bed knowing that three guests were booked in.

Apart from that it was pretty decent for a short stay. Rooms were clean and the pools were well maintained and nice. Most of the staff were polite and helpful, security guard was a bit intimidating though... Oh and we made good use of the rooftop terrace which no one else seemed to use!

Building work had finished by the time we arrived on 19th June.

Just back from Aqualuz. Lovely hotel. Stayed B & B in a studio on 1st floor overlooking pool. The room was clean, modern with all the facilities you would need. Staff very helpful and friendly, especially Sonia on Reception who advised us the best places to eat and tips on how to get into town and beach by shortest routes - use the underpass at the side of hotel to shorten the climb up the hill. We stayed during the first week of the World Cup and watched the England matches at the hotel pool bar. Beer was half price during the matches which was a big saving as quite expensive compared to prices in the town, I.e. Should have been €4.40 a pint, but €2.20 during matches. Doña Ana beach is absolutely beautiful, only a short stroll from the hotel. The Paraisio Restaurant is well worth a visit. The grilled salmon and prawn curry are the best and biggest portions we have ever tasted. It is located on a side street on the way to Doña Ana beach. Didn't see any building work and no noise from other rooms so guess we had an ideal location. The only reason we have not given 5 out of 5 is because the breakfasts were very basic and not much choice. We would deffinately return to the Aqualuz. (Missing it already!).

We've just returned from a nice week in Lagos, which we found to be a good base in the Algarve. The location of Aqualuz was excellent, not too far from some beautiful beaches and just a 10 minute walk from the shops and restaurants/bars in town. Although the walk back from town was up hill, we found it nice after eating a heavy meal.

We stayed in a basic studio, and since we only had breakfast included, we had expected a full studio room (with a hob etc), but we got just the room. It was not too much of an issue for us, since we went out for lunch and dinner, but the facilities would have been nice. The room itself was pleasant and clean and the cleaners did a great job every day. Given that Aqualuz is a 4 star hotel we were surprised that we had to pay to rent the lock for the safe (15 EUR per week and 25 EUR returnable deposit). Our room was located just above the breakfast area, it was not affected by noise from the construction work but when the world cup games were being shown, it did get quite noisy at night. It was fine for us but I can imagine it being more of an issue later in the season as the hotel gets busier.

The breakfast was included in our stay, and compared to our past experiences we found it a bit disappointing for a 4 star hotel. The ingredients seemed quite cheap and the bread for toasting was frozen - although fresh bread was also provided. We didn't eat any main meals at the hotel as there were lots of places in town which had lovely atmospheres and fantastic food.

The swimming pool area was lovely and well maintained. There was a large pool and a smaller, shallower one for children. There were loads of sunbeds and umbrellas and it was a really peaceful environment. We didn't use the gym or indoor pool but the facilities looked fantastic. Our only gripe was that when we inquired about the massages and other treatments in the spa we were told that they were not being offered due to the construction work (we were under the impression that the construction work was due to finish by 31st May 2014).

We generally enjoyed our stay in Lagos, but we have stayed in similar, better value for money 3 star apartments in the past. Aqualuz is a good base, but we think we could have paid less for similar quality accommodation.

Room Tip: Avoid corner rooms, they seemed dark. Go for a pool view, some of the external views were not great...

Just back from a very enjoyable week there. We had a 2 bedroom apartment which was excellent - clean, spacious and quiet. There was minimal building work while we were there. Plenty of sunbeds to be had. Staff were very helpful and considerate. My only gripe is the standard of the food - we ate in the Pool Bar area on our arrival as we arrived c.10pm- our worst meal in the Algarve- the so called hot food was cold and the ice cream had melted....the breakfasts were only mediocre- not up to the 4 star standard that you would get elsewhere in Portugal. If I was going again, I would not opt for any food there- there are plenty of excellent places for breakfasts/lunches/dinners in the main town area at 1/4 the price!

Room Tip: Some rooms don't get the sun at all -(the corner rooms - 138/238/338/438) so be sure to ask for...

We stayed in the Aqualuz for a week in June 2014 and had a fantastic time.
We knew we were off to a good start when the taxi driver who was leaving us to the hotel said, "it's very nice hotel!" - always comforting!
The location was perfect for us, a short walk into the town itself, and also just a short walk to the closest beach. With shops within 5 mins walk keeping supplies stocked up was a breeze.

Having booked through a third party website for a bargain price, we didn't have the most exciting room - it was one of the studio apartments but it was brilliant. Well equipped and spacious - all you'd need for a couple.
The facilities at the hotel are second to none. The pool with surrounding lounging areas are perfect and in the June sunshine the pool is a welcome break.
The attached health club which you have access to has everything you would want - gym, indoor pool, jacuzzi, etc
Anytime we had a query or an issue, the staff were courteous and helpful. Unfortunately we did have a problem with the electrics in our room when the hob cooker blew the trip late one evening. It was fixed within half an hour and we weren't that disrupted at all.
When we were staying there was a bit if renovation work going on to the health club which brought the expected noises, but again this went too disruptive and didn't hamper our stay whatsoever.
Particularly appreciated how clean the hotel was and how relaxing the atmosphere was. I would imagine that in the height of the busy season this might be dampened slightly, but it was great when we were there.

We frequently said throughout the week that the hotel itself would be enough to want us to come back to Lagos, and we plan to do so in the future.
