As it was December not all the market stalls were there but it was still interesting to walk around the stalls selling bags and belts, woollen jumpers were very nicely made as were the table cloths, a bit like our Sunday markets. Things were not that cheap but ideal if you want a souvenir to take home.

I first visited the gypsey market almost 20 years ago and it has changed quite a bit since then. I bought a wonderful embroidered tablecloth back then and still have it. You can still buy these at the market. They have a good selection of bags. I don´t recomend the gypsey market as the highlight of your visit. It should be included as part of a days outing to Loule. It is an absolutely wonderful old town to visit with many interesting ancient buildings. The main town market is stunning and an artists or photographers dream for capturing the scenery. Down the road from the market, on the way to walk to the gypsey market is a wonderful pedestrian road with ´sky curtains´in summer to shade the road and old world street musicians. There is an amazing mens and ladies clothing boutique just as you enter this pedestrian road, on the corner, with unusual and beautiful Spanish and French clothing and very different mens shirts. Opposite it is a new modern cafe with a wonderful selection of little cakes and treats. We had a very nice set menu lunch for just 3,50 euros! There are numerous other very interesting shops along this little walkway selling hand crafts, linen, and is a shoe shoppers paradise. There are also numerous side walk cafes along it. Its worth a visit to Loule just for this road and its photo opportunities alone. Its called Rua 5 de Outubro. There is an ancient shoe shop with all the old cobblers tools hanging from their doorway, a stunning sight! If you are staying in self catering I would recommend you doing your vegetable and meat shopping at the main town market on a Saturday morning after exploring the town. On the little road leading to the castle is a tiny chapel completely tiled inside with ancient blue and white handpainted tiles and a lot of work in gold. Its exquisite, and easy to miss if you dont look out for it very carefully. I thought it was worth a visit just for this alone.

I had a great time here!! We got dropped off approx 11:00 walked around the Gypsy Market, bought some presents, had some lunch and enjoyed the sights before pick up at 13:00. Nice to kill some time although the Gypsies don't like to take no for an answer. Beware they will harass you as much as they can for a quick deal. Great opportunity if you want to haggle...

Weather wasn't too great on the day and nothing else to do in the area so 3 hours was plenty of time to walk around and do what we wanted to.

This is a busy and vibrant market. Saturday is the best day for a visit as the local farmers have stall around the outside as well. inside you can purchase any thing from fish, meat veg, wine to leather goods souvenirs ,wine, flowers, and cakes. In fact almost any thing you could want. It is surrounded by cafés and bars so you can also get a great value meal or just a cup of coffee. We'll worth a visit.

Good to go to Loule and see the gyspy market. This one wasn't too bad but just a typical gypsy market, you can't look at anything without them wanting you to buy something. Police watching all the time too which makes you feel safer.
