A Saturday lunch time in February .We stopped here for a drink on the terrace and were so impressed with the food being served we stayed for lunch.
Olives ,bread and butter and fried sardines were the perfect appetiser. An half chicken each with piri-piri sauce followed ,accompanied by a large plate of French fries. An excellent mixed salad after.
All this including a good bottle of house wine for just under 20 euros.
Excellent value

Came upon this restaurant one day visiting Loule from Villamoura where we had found it very difficult to find a genuine Portuguese Restaurant serving good fresh fish at a reasonable price. On entering we noted that this large room was filled with locals and there was a lovely ambience about it. We both had the fresh fish but opted for salads as find the veg and potatoes overcooked in a lot of restaurants in Portugal.

We were not disappointed it was delicious and the portions were very good. Had lovely Vine Verde and we were treated to a complimentary glass of port on finishing our meal.

All in all it was a lovely experience - our only disappointment is that we could not visit it more often as it was too far from our hotel!! Can only dream!!

Restaurant Flor da Praça, Loulé

This restaurant is situated on the west side of the market, in Rua J. Fernandes Guerreiro. It has been trading for many years, offering a no-frills, value for money menu, and is very popular with local business people. It serves the full range of traditional, national dishes, a majority of which can usually be found on the daily menu. It is not a place for the dedicated gourmet, the emphasis being on quality, rather than finesse. Quantity however, is not neglected and one can generally be fulfilled for under €10.00 including wine and coffee.
The interior is large and airy, with long tables, each for a dozen or more diners, plus separate seating for couples or foursomes. A large array of cups and trophies emphasise an obvious managerial enthusiasm for sports, particularly football. The doors are opened for lunch a little after midday and the restaurant is normally fairly full within the hour. It is no smoking throughout.
Soup of the day on our visit was caldo verde. The daily menu featured a variety of fish fresh from the market, including besugo, dourada, espadarte and a grill of mixed fish, all with salad and potatoes. Sole, with similar accompaniments was one euro more, which seemed a bargain. The butcher's selection offered bife de vitela and a bife de porco, or peru, costeletas and entremeada The not-so-hungry could have an omelette or half a frango. To finish, there was molotov or pudim . Tarte de nata, tarte de amêndoa, melão, or melancia.
Paulette enjoyed a grilled dourada: a reliable, locally caught fish, with firm, lean meat. My entremeadea was about twice as much as I could comfortably eat, with a great, dinosaur-sized bone: good news for the farmer's dog across the way.
Parking unfortunately, is a matter of luck in the near vicinity. You may find a roadside place in one of the narrow streets behind the Camara offices, but the multi-storey opposite the court house usually has plenty of spaces and it is just a 10 minute level walk from the restaurant.

I have been going to this restaurant every year since 2011 and will be going again next week so will give another update. wonderful fresh grilled fish, served with boiled potatoes and a tomato salad. You will have to pay for the fresh bread and sardine pate and olives that they give you before you order your main meal, but it is worth it.. Portugese wine available, and a jug of water given (free). many local dishes and they have the menu in Portugese or English. The price of the lunch is very reasonabIe, go at lunchtime on Saturday after I have done my shopping at Loule market for the fresh produce. Delightful.
