The hotel was fantastic, the staff very helpful and the food wonderful. Lovely little touches that were provided like fresh water in your room every day. Food prepared fresh on site (not a frozen veg in site). And even a cosy wrap when sitting outside at the restaurant after the sun went down. It is quiet at the hotel but if you have researched the hotel before you go there will be no surprises.

Room Tip: room with a pool view

Our Satnav took us to Termal hotel where we were greeted with a sign that the hotel was closed for winter season! We went into the spa and they told us that we had come to the wrong reception, we put our cases back in the car and drove back out to the main road (one way system) and eventually found our way to the main reception. This was not at all clear.

There were 2 receptionists and they barely acknowledged us, we eventually got their attention and we were given a room key for the Hotel D Carlos back along the road, once again we took our cases by now to the third location! Key card did not work on entry system to building so had to rely on other guests letting us in.

Room was nicely furnished, clean and comfortable although when we opened the patio door we were greeting by a rat on the wall - nice! The whole balcony area could do with a bit of attention.

Wi-fi was not available in the room or hotel but was only available down the road at the main reception area which was very poor.

We were only offered one room key and this very inconvenient given that the card activated the electricity in the room. So if one of us left the room the other was left without electricity.

The reception was too far away to be practical.

Also there were no drinks making facility in the room or hotel which given how far a walk it was to the restaurant area was very poor.

After complaining about the key card not working we were assured our key card had been fixed but when we returned that evening, once again, we could not gain access to the building and had to walk to the reception to get it fixed. Once again the receptionist not at all friendly. Everything seemed too much trouble.

Breakfast was very good with breads, cereals, coffee machine, toaster, jams, fruit, ham, cheese, croissants.

On the whole we enjoyed our stay as we were only using our room as a base for visiting the coast but had we been staying on site I think the facilities would have been very lacking.

Perfect relaxing holiday, we stayed in hotel Carlos which was clean, and the bathroom and bedroom was of a good size. Views from room were breathtaking! There isn't much to do on this resort and the evening was very quiet almost too quiet! Needs some entertainment! 2 nights a week there is an outdoor cinema, subtitles were in Portuguese but the actual film was in English but it was more or less on mute so didn't satisfy all the audience which we thought was unfair. No bad points about the food, it was fresh and the service was brilliant. The house white wine was superb! We also ate in the tapas bar but only had a snack here, service there was also great and food good. Pool area was clean and tidy, the added touch of pineapple that was brought round was a lovely touch. There is a bar next to the pool area, there is a young lad that works there and we found him to be so polite and friendly! He works his butt off! I think if we were to come back again, we would most defo hire a car! I would like to mention the bad experience we had at the start of this holiday too, no idea who's fault it would be but it's worth a mention. We got dropped off by our bus transfer at the entrance of the spa ( we didn't know this at the time) it was pitch black and it was half 12 at night, the doors were locked to this building so we had no idea how to get in! We wondered round the resort carrying 2 heavy suitcases, up steps etc with no indication where to go! There was nobody around to ask or anything, no signs! After traipsing round for the best part of 45 minutes we came across another couple having the same problem! We all managed to find the reception in the end. But it was a disappointing start really. All in all a great holiday!

We recently had the pleasure to stay in this unique resort/spa. It seems that this resort has evolved over the years and there are many added buildings. Rooms lovely but dated. We went to the taps bar on the first evening expecting traditional and nice bites to eat, what a disappointment, the chicken wings where greasy and cold/tasteless, traditional potato skins dry and listless, the rest not worth a mention.
The next day we utilised the Spa and where not disappointed - highly recommended and excellent service. Dinner in the 1642 restaurant was good and location on the terrace beautiful. Worth a visit

Attended for one night for a wedding and were more than impressed, we had a lovely room overlooking the courtyard with a juliet balcony & lovely shuttered windows very romantic! Room was an older style but clean with a handy fridge and enormous bathroom, shower head looked small but it was very powerful.
The wedding was in the small onsite chapel and was lovely, very special. The wedding reception was in the courtyard which had been beautifully prepared by the staff, lights in the trees, candles, very 'mama mia' just in Portugal! Food, service, ambiance all perfect. Wedding planners were on hand all night making sure everything ran smoothly, sometimes too efficient as if you went off to dance and left your drink it was gone when you got back, ok as the bar was free but you'd be a be a bit miffed otherwise!
We didnt use the spa as we wanted to make the most of our last day sightseeing but the pool looked fantastic. Monchique itself is beautiful and its well worth a drive to the top of the mountain, look out for farmers selling potatoes & herbs on the way & a stall at the selling honey, herbs & cheese. The air up the top is so fresh and the views outstanding, lots of restaurants with great views on the way up or down!

Room Tip: If want peace & quiet check if there is a function on before booking a courtyard room, we had a...

Second time I stayed in this hotel and I love the atmosphere. It's a wellness resort with different kind of hotels and small restaurants, like a small village. In the main building you have a wonderful old hotel with beautiful furnished rooms. The rooms are older, but clean. Some of them with a nice view of the courtyard. There is a wellness centre I didn't use but looks nice. There is a nice pool for the hotel guests.

Room Tip: For a nice view choose the courtyard, for a quiet room choose the front (although the courtyard side...
