This was one of our best hotelexperiences in the world. Recommanded by someone in the village we went up the mountain to Vila Foia, beautifull views from the car, the premises are very well kept, all the rooms with an ample balcony and stunning view , staff was very friendly, we felt welcomed and at home. rooms very comfortable, shower hot and running, bed comfortable, fruits in the room, clean pure water ,no chemicals in the water or room, and downstairs next morning in the garden the table ready and the most delicious fresh breakfast, fresh juice, fresh made eggs, honoust bread, good coffee. we stayed only one night as travellers but we will love to come back. there was also a fresh good looking pool , maybe with springwater i did not try but it looked natural.
We found Vilafoia on our search for a place that was near the Algarve, but not in the Algarve. We loved it. Stephanie and Laila were helpful and attentive. The rooms were spotless, the views were incredible and the pool was very refreshing. The breakfast was extensive and the girls helped us plan out destinations for our evening meals. We drove to Tavira and spent the day there. We went to the medieval festival in Silves. We also spent one day in Monchique puttering around. We hiked up to the convent, where the owner allowed us to explore the dilapidated buildings. All in all we were delighted with our stay at Vilafoia and highly recommend it.
Stayed at Vilafoia from 19th December until Boxing Day 2013. Perfect relaxation! Although we got a little lost initially ( by following directions from booking.com ) we followed the steep path up through the cork forest and reached what was to be our retreat for a week. Felt like a tree house! Well equipped studio with kitchenette , where we cooked many meals . And a large balcony looking out through the cork oaks to the coast in the distance. Leila greeted us on arrival, was very friendly and shared much information regarding restaurants, the village etc in fact, anything we needed to know. Room spacious, clean lines, some little luxury touches- robes, shower gel dispenser, welcome basket of fruit. Wakening each morning to the sun shining through the branches was a true delight. The tea shop in Monchique, the pottery, the women crafting and selling their wares in the square all added to a Christmas from long ago. The west coast beaches are about 40 minutes drive and were the perfect backdrop to a few impromptu picnics, rustled up with bread, cheese, oil, wine and chocs we had bought in Vila Monchique- a lovely deli in Monchique. Meals in O Luar de Foia and in A Charette were both excellent- the walk home from O Luar de Foia was fun with the light of the torch, provided on the key tag. Even the two rainy days over Christmas did not dampen our spirits. We will definitely return to Vilafoia!
Had four lovely nights here. The hotel is spotless and has a Scandinavian feel, with clean modern lines - very organised and efficient. Room very comfortable, with wall controls for radio etc. TV and air conditioning. En suite shower room attractively decorated, modern, clean and very pleasant, with in-shower body wash/shampoo dispenser, which I thought was a nice touch. Complimentary water and fruit was in room, along with the downstairs lounge/dining area having complimentary tea to help yourself to 24/7, plus a coffee maker with lots of choice of coffees at only 50 cents a pod. (Also they have a honesty fridge with a good choice of canned drinks and bottled waters). Thought this set up was a great idea, and it was nice to be able to get a drink to take back to your room or enjoy on the terrace whenever you wanted to - a thing you often don't get abroad without ordering room service. There is also fruit to help yourselves to in the dining room, and glasses/cutlery in the units there if you need them. The dining room also has a separate part to sit and relax plus a 'tucked away' part for the kids to play/read/watch a massive TV!! The rooms are bright and airy and stylishly designed with lovely crisp white bedding, with the most fantastic views down to the coast in the distance. There is a quarry on show, but don't be put off, we never heard anything and it was mid week, plus it most definitely does not detract from the views whatsoever, believe me, it is a blip compared to everything else on view. Very pretty landscaped garden terraces down to the pool area, (lots of lovely pots and plants very tastefully placed everywhere), which is secluded and lends itself to children playing as well as quiet and shaded areas to put your lounger and relax. The staff are wonderful - excellent check in, with a full but quick and efficient tour of the lounge and how to get drinks etc. and also how to work everything in our room. Breakfast is buffet style continental, but they ask if you would like eggs too - try the scrambled - they are creamy, delicious and beautifully presented!! Lots of choice of everything else and they are very attentive and nothing is too much trouble. The Hotel has a really relaxed atmosphere and I felt very comfortable, and the two ladies that run it seemed genuinely concerned that we enjoyed our stay and everything was ok for us. Tip - get to the centre of Monchique and then follow the signs for Foia, you will then pick up the signs for the Hotel to follow. There is a couple of very steep turns on the little road just as you get to the Hotel, so make sure you go into first gear and don't panic! Also, they recommended the restaurant at the bottom of the hill which had really fantastic food and service! and it's only a three minute car drive away - will do a separate review once I remember what it was called.
Near Portimão and Costa Vicentina, Vilafoia Hotel it was a excellent place to stay. Beautiful place to spend some days in a quiet environment. Located in the Serra of Monchique we have a wonderful view of the Algarve. The service was exceptional. Good rooms, excellent breakfast and the staff is very nice. A place to revisit.
