This is a great shopping centre. Lots off food restaurants.mcdonalds, subway, Chinese. Jumbos is the supermarket which is great. Taxi rank outside the front doors. They have a shoe shop for the ladies and most shoes are 16.99 euros, if you love shoes you,l love this shop.

We visited Portimao on a day trip from Lagos – on a Saturday – by train. We planned on spending the day shopping.

The train itself is quite basic and slow by UK standards. On arrival at Portimao we walked from the station to the Aqua shopping centre – approx. 10 minutes. If you plan on doing this I would advise familiarising yourself with a map or use GPS, as the train station does not look as if it is in a very nice area.

We were disappointed with the shops – it is a small scale mall with very little of substance. Parts of it are outdoors and those areas attract huge numbers of smokers. We had lunch in the food court which has a wide range of typical eateries. Choosing McDonalds was a mistake as the food ( and service ) were not the usual standard. We had originally planned on spending a whole day here but were finished in less than 2 hours – including a wander round the large supermarket to buy gifts.

After enquiring about buses we took a local bus into the town “centre” only to find out that the bus was some distance from where I thought it was heading. We wandered past bus stops and into some back streets littered with a mixture of shops, a few restaurants and some discount stores. Luckily we stumbled across a nice small square with a garden and a café where we sat for drinks in the shade. There we met a group of non-native ladies who knew the area and one of us led us kindly to the main shopping streets and told us some history on the way. Thanking her we then realised that most of the shops were closed as it was a Saturday afternoon.

We headed back to the riverside area for a walk. Given it was still early afternoon and the train was going to be several hours away, we decided to return to Lagos by bus. Luckily we managed to get a bus back – as the stop had no timetable information. The journey was much slower than the train.
So in summary it was on the whole a wasted day. Portimao appeared to be a huge commercial / industrial town with little to offer tourists. It lacked the charm and features of Lagos.

Good mall to have some cheap meal. A bit uncomfortable if its windy or cold, since its an open mall.
