Cheaper than a fortnight in a cardboard box ..best value ever. will be back for a month next time. Spacious rooms with 2 balconies in the apartment and although not by a beach or in town, was still a great location. all cooking facilities did the required job, the shower was great with loads of hot water anytime we needed it.if you aren't happy with the room then ask for a different one, no problem in October anyway.
Behind the hotel toward town is the Parque da Juventude, great for kids of all ages and also for old farts like us. head for the gate into the graffitti clad sports area then walk alongside the cycle park and through into a woodland area with a pond that is home to various fish, terrapins and ducks. have a tuna or cheese toastie from the cafe here with a lovely cup of coffee for less than 3 euro.and free entertainment from the local wildlife. Cockerels, geese, peacocks and the like will keep you company.
The hotel bus will take you into and back from Praia de Rocha or Portimao at 10am, 12.30 and 2pm and also pick you up at 6pm. Didn't use this service ourselves much as we enjoyed the 20 min walk to the beach or into Portimao.
MacDonalds, Lidl, Aldi and Continente are a ten min walk down the main road toward the town and there is also a Pingo Doce supermarket in town not far from the harbour area.
Portimao is a very interesting and attractive town with some unusual statues, 3 very different looking bridges over the river, all unique in their own way. we were also fascinated by watching the Storks in their nests at the top of the old sardine factory chimneys.
There are also many other nice places to visit by public transport or on foot in the surrounding area. Take the city bus(1.50 Euro per journey of any length) from round the corner to Alvor or the train to Lagos from Portimao for 2 euro each way.(less than half the price of the bus companies) Silves is well worth a visit too although it's a good 20 min walk to the town from the station.
Across the river and a 40 min walk from Portimao is the picturesque fishing village of Ferragudo.just past here is the main beach with the castle on it. beyond the castle,if you walk as far as you can on this beach, there is some steps and a pathway that takes you up the cliffs and you are rewarded with spectacular views of the whole area. walk along here, past the surfers at the breakwater and follow the path down to Praia Pintadinho. at either side of this small beach are caves that make for great photo locations..
The freemap of Portimao which you can pick up from the small bar area across the road from the bus stop at Rocha, is very handy and will help you find the train station and places of interest.
The local footy team play in the 2nd div of the Portuguese league and are currently 2nd.it costs 10 euro to get into the match, the ground is close to the centre.
Did most of our shopping at Lidl, particularly the wine cartons for 1 euro and the litre bottles of lager for 89 cents :-)
The tv only really has BBC world news but there is sky tv in the Bar area.
Did not reckon much to the Aqua centre shopping mall, which is about a half hour walk straight down the main highway past Lidl etc.head toward the tall white tower with Portimao written on it. ok if you like Primark i suppose but the Chinese shops in town are more fun.
If you are feeling peckish downtown there is a cafe close to the centre called MIRA. 3 euros odd for soup, a tuna sandwich and a coffee in pleasent surroundings. take the street at the right side of the town hall then first left, it is next door to the ice cream parlour that faces you. one thing you prob wont be able to find is a strawberry calippo, cos i have devoured em all !

We paid full peak season price for a very basic apartment in need of upgrading. Clean with friendly staff who were very helpful. Small swimming pool with tired sunloungers. Very central location. Ok, but slightly disappointed for the price.

Hi just back today from this hotel ( Mirachoro 2), we were there last year at same time and loved it, so we went back this year and loved it even more. Ok it is dated a bit but it is clean (our room was cleaned every day towels changed every other. The staff were very pleasant, very helpful nothing was to much trouble, the food is very good and very reasonably priced, Pool clean and plenty of seating/loungers,There is a mini bus run by the hotel that goes to the town and beach several times a day, its a 10>15 min walk into Potimao which is a lovely town with harbour, lots of good shops to suit all purses, and loads of cafes/restaurant's selling all types of food to suit all tastes( plz try the local dishes as well). The beach is also a 10>15 min walk(easy) and when you get there they are worth it immaculately kept golden sands, and magnificent views, loads of eating places on the main stray which looks down on the beaches,(Try Taffy's bar and restaurant)Great Breakfast(English) and full menu. The only thing really missing was the lack of uk tv channels ie bbc1/2. channel 4/5, but that's it, there is a large bar room with tv and they do play England matches when on, there is also free Wi-Fi in and around the bar/reception. So there give it a go we don't think you will regret it, We are going back there again next year again.

Room Tip: try to get south facing, but all rooms have terraces.

Stayed here self catering for 10 nights with my girlfriend, we arrived at 11.00 am after a early morning flight and after about 30 mins wait they arranged early check in for us( check in normally 2 pm). The apartment was very dated and had twin beds that could not be pushed together, so being a couple we went to reception and asked to change. The receptionist was polite and helpful and arranged a new apartment for us (still 2 hours before we were meant to check in), the second apartment was slightly more modern and with double bed was much more suitable. The living room/kitchenette was spacious and we had a large balcony, large bedroom and bathroom. Both apartments were clean and there was housekeeping service everyday. There is free wifi in the reception area. the bar area looked clean and smart and the prices on the menu looked reasonable although we did not eat there, only because we preferred to be out and about different places each day.The pool was also clean and there were plenty of sunbeds. It is about 10 - 15 mins walk to the beach or town center and 30 mins to aqua retail park. There was a free bus from the hotel to the beach and portimao 3 times a day. After checking out there is secure luggage room to leave bags, all of the staff were polite, friendly and helpful. Overall this is a good value for money 2 star hotel/apartments

We had a lovely time, the staff where friendly and helpful, the food was basic but not too bad, the pool was very cold but that didn't stop the other half having a dip, a taxi to either the beach or the centre of town was cheap although there was a free bus but only at certain times of the day, all in all a great break for us as the weather was hot and because of it being the end of the season, there weren't the crowds so the beaches etc where nice and peaceful, will definitely go back
