I've spent more than two decades visiting Sagres for it's famed surf. So quite how I have managed to miss this absolute gem of a restaurant is beyond me. One of the joys of travelling is trying different local cuisine. I am ashamed to say that I had fresh Sea-Bass and chips five nights out of the six times that we ate at A Sagres. Cooked over charcoal to the point of perfection, the fish was delicious and the chips to die for. Fantastic pans of steaming fish broth and rice pots arrived at the table along with some wonderful Algarve wines and Sagres beer. The restaurant was constantly busy and bustling with a convivial atmosphere and wonderful service. The only grumbling came from hungry stomachs desperate for the chef's delicious food and the only groans from those who had over indulged, like myself, with chocolate mousse or almond cake to finish.
Everything was truly delicious, reasonably priced and, self evidently, worth going back for again, and again, and again.
