“YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 September 2013

Stayed there for 4 nights in September. Booked late so it was the only thing available for a long weekend at the end of August. i was worried as i love Sagres and have stayed at other nice hotels ( Mareta, Memmo), but hey was either that or a tent!
As i said you get what you pay for €80 for a night right in August is very reasonable. Yes the hotel is a bit like an old fortress but it kept imaculate: rooms, exteriors , pool area ( huge and very nice). Yes i does need update , all the furniture, tv, microwaves, bathroom suite is very dated but again its clean and not broken! Reception was polite and attentive ( a bunch of old algarvian men that might look intimidate at first...). Yes the breakfast is very basic too but remember this is an APARTHOTEL, so i guess is aimed at budget holiday makers or long..ish stays! you can buy half of the supermarket and keep it inside the enormous rooms and do your own breakfast/drinks/meals.
If you want a truly hotel and are prepared double or more go to Memmo, the little but lovely Mareta or if you want to splash the cash head to MArtinhal!

We stayed at Don Tenorio for one night (thankfully only 1 night) in early September.
It is very large and impersonal place. The rooms were big but lacked any sort of aesthetic, it felt like we were staying in a hospital room. The room was reasonably clean and its quiet, like a cemetery quiet. In the shower there was nothing to hold the shower head, but the place had such a strange feel to it that it would not have surprised if the ghost of Don Tenorio himself was supposed to hold the shower head for you. The television looked like it was an antique from the 1970s. The sheets were washed in some kind of super sterilizing detergent that gave an unpleasant smell and served as further evidence this place is more like a hospital than a hotel. In some ways it was a romantic experience, my wife and I hugged each other all night trying to comfort one another until mercifully the sun came up and we could get out of there.

The only WiFi is available in a small area by the front desk, the lack of chairs or places to sit meant you had lots of people trying to get their email leaning up against walls. In 2013 it seems they could do a little better with some effort.

I don't want to insult the word breakfast calling what Don Tenorio had on offer as breakfast. Unless your idea of breakfast is canned peaches, canned pineapple, and white bread they sell in plastic bags at the super market "breakfast" you will be disappointed. The coffee was out of a machine and truly dreadful. On the plus side, the water was served in pitchers that had ice so that was something.

Front desk was courteous and helpful. They left some candies for us in the room which was a nice gesture, but did not overcome the overall sense of dread we felt while staying there.

Yes, it was only 60 EUR, but this is no bargain considering the quality. Sagres is worth visiting but try and steer clear of DT.

It was 2 star maximum - best thing was the breakfast and the two guys that helped did smile occasionally especially the younger one. Not very welcoming when you book in but room was big enough for 3 and clean - don't believe the statement about satellite TV though. For some reason - they just wouldn't let us have "cups" for coffee in the kitchen - we had to use glasses - so we had to buy our own. Bar - not somewhere you would really sit and have a drink - pool was OK. Best bit about this place was that it was 10 mins walk from the beach. D'Italia Pizzeria in village - lovely. If you want to go to Mum's to eat you ned to book. If the management had made us feel just a little welcome it would really have made a difference to the review.

Room Tip: Don't go 105/205 or anywhere near lift - it is like Euston station throughout the night and lift...

We had a lovely stay at this quiet comfortable spacious hotel. The facilities were clean and adequate and we opened our apartment door out to the poolside Management and staff were most pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was good and the stay was very good value for money. The neighbouring town was lovely and had good eating places. Would stay here again.

Room Tip: Great value for money and good for a family.

Staff seemed a bit rude and they had charged my card before we even came to their place, which was odd as booking.com never does that, finding this place was a bit tough as we went in circles. Rooms are big but with no taste at all and they are kind of empty, you could play football in them but they had direct access to a wonderful chilly pool, lots of parking in their compound.

The manager of this hotel is a complete disgrace to his nation. I have never met such an arrogant individual.

We ordered a hire car to arrive at the hotel for us, a young girls (20ish) dropped it off - I was in reception when she asked for me.....he started pulling faces and when I was talking to her I could see him making rude faces......such an ignorant man.

We ended up having a row, as i wasn't going to let him treat me this way, having paid to stay in his average (at best) hotel. Am old an who will put up a fight too....I am half his age and felt somewhat disturbed after leaving him throffing at the mouth!!!

Couldn't wait to get out of the place in the end up - when leaving I didn't say a word to him....he looked at me as if in amazement!

STAY WELL AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL.

Room Tip: No good room, average at best, very windy resort - so pool always cold.

Two friends and I stayed here in April of 2013 while on a tour of the Algarve. Our room was clean and comfortable and the price was great. The next morning we enjoyed a simple but nice continental breakfast. Unfortunately it was a little too cool so early in the season to enjoy the large outdoor pool, but it looked very nice! It was a really great room for the price and I don't know why anyone would be expecting the room to be decorated like the Bellagio in Las Vegas or something! I would stay there again if I were in the area.
