The establishment in situated on the harbour front overlooking the sea Lages is the whale watching hub of the Island and you can tell they are proud of their heritage. Great care is taken to make the village look its best and it has a completely different feel and look to the other villages on the Island.
The Whale'come ao Pico is a hotel too but we only had lunch here so cannot comment on the accommodation but if it is as good as teh food then you will not be disappointed.

We popped in for lunch and were greeted with a wonderful clean and modern decor, friendly staff and an extensive menu.

We orders Azorean Beef which are large chunks of shin in a cinnamon gravy and potatoes, sounds odd but tasted amazing. The Quiche was made with the tastiest shortcrust pastry I had ever eaten, the quality and value was outstanding and would highly recommend a visit.

We stayed there a week, first room 12 later room 6.
12 was okay, nicely tucked away in a small alley, so the street noise was silenced to an acceptable level.
After 2 quiet nights and a discussion with management, we moved to room 6.
This room is small (I am a 1,88m person) and extremly noisy.
The beds are to short, the shower feels like a can of fish and hardly space to put stuff down for 2 persons.

The window of the room looks across the harbor, but also straight above the restaurant and the main road of the village. Even noise from inside the restaurant will be transfered through the walls and ceiling into the room.

Food in the restaurant was edible, but not more then that. Staff was friendly but waiting times are long.

Pico is an island that needs exploring, but this hotel will make sure you stay away from it as long as possible.

Room Tip: Go for room 12 of the appartments in the build further away from the harbour.

Dear Ruud,

I am not use to answer to any post as I believe it give more visibility and less impartiality to it.
But here you are not fare. Yes it was planned and you were well informed that you have to leave this big room (we dont even charge for this extra) as a family was checking in. This was the beginning of your dissatisfaction.
Then, you where unhappy with every thing even with the fantastic encounters that you had with dolphins and whale. I have also to say that to be frustrated (because of the room problem) don't give you the right to be rude with my staff who have made them best for you and your wife. Saying good morning at the breakfast or bye bye when leaving us is a minimum !

I just feel that your made mistake choosing the Azores, Pico and our hotel. Yes Whale'come is a small hotel, yes we are well integrate in the village where people make them life, life that you may call noise... we are proud to be like we are and believe that encounter. exchange and tourism has to be based on tolerance and thirst of discovery...

Any way I wish you to find for your next holidays a place that can make you happy, I recommend you to try a all-inclusive ...

We have recently returned from our amazing trip to Lajes on Pico Island. This was our 6th consecutive visit/stay on the Island and we are already planning for our 7th!! If you want to relax where time drifts by slowly and life is simple then Lajes is for you. Whale'come ao Pico offers great food with a wide variety of options on the menu to suit every taste, a friendly service and clean/tidy accomodation. The perfect base for exploring Pico Island. Take advantage of being next door to the Whale Watching company Espaco Talassa and book yourself on one of their trips. They can also arrange for you to climb Pico Moutian with one of their expert guides. Don't just read this review, sort out your flights and get yourself booked into Whale'come ao Pico - you won't regret it

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view, this over looks the harbour area and gives you a view of the sea.

We have just returned from a week in Lajes, staying at Whale'come ao Pico, and enjoyed every minute of our stay.
It's a small hotel (12 rooms) with very friendly owners and staff. Our room was spotlessly clean and there was always lots of hot water ready for that much needed shower after returning dripping wet from a fun trip out whale watching in the RIB's.
The food in the restaurant was excellent (Marta makes the lightest 'melt in the mouth' pastry I have ever tasted and the Lemon Meringue Pie alone is worth the price of the plane fare) and the portions very generous.
Yes it got a little bit noisy on the street some evenings, but nothing that troublesome, and it's to be expected with people passing by and having a good time on holiday.
Just hope I get a chance to repeat the experience !!

Stayed at Whale'come ao Pico as part of a Whale Watching trip with Dolphin Connections. Hotel was basic, clean, small and perfect for what we needed, being out on the ocean most of each day it was good to come back to a hot shower and good food served all day in the hotel bar/café. Thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: Although the rooms overlooking the harbour were very sought after, we had the two bed 'cottage...

There are not too much places like this in the middle of the Atlantic for sure. Very nice and cozy place with very good food. Despite some large (and noisy) groups that sometimes arrive by bus, the restaurant is very calm and the quality of the menu regarding price and options will reveal good surprises of meat to vegetarian dishes, but remember, no hurry because this is a slow food restaurant, so take your time and relax.

Room Tip: We didn't use the hotel, just the restaurant.

did not stay at the hotel, but ate there regularly. the food is the best around, staff always ready to help.
the view from the tables outside is hard to beat, with a clean line of sight to the mighty pico mountain. sitting there and having a drink when the sun sets became one of our favorite pastimes while on the island.
