“Finally - I found a charming place in Ponta Delgada!”
Reviewed 1 October 2010

I have been traveling often to Ponta Delgada, and every time I am trying out other places. This is the first really charming old house, with original old furniture and a very personal touch!

My husband and I travelled with 2 other friends and stayed at Casa Vitoriana for 8 nights. We had our rooms on the third floor and both had private bathrooms located across the hall from your room. Very clean hotel with good cleaning staff who work hard. Funny signs everywhere telling guests to be quiet... despite local dog that barked constantly day and night. Furnishings are very decorative and tasteful but not very comfortable. Marguerida, the proprietor, is quite a charactor and was very helpful by email with details. In person, she is omnipresent in a rather uncomfortable way. She would enter our room while we were out and ensure that we were following the house rules. I left a damp towel over a chair by mistake and returned after dinner to find the towel moved and a "sign" on the chair saying "no wet clothes on the furniture". When I pay for a room, I do not appreciate anyone but cleaning staff (who were both fabulous) inspecting my room. It was a little creepy at times but certainly memorable. The walk to the town centre, shops and restaurants is an easy 10 minutes. Beautiful gardens and views and lots of cats....6 in total. A lot of stairs to our top floor rooms so keep that in mind with luggage etc...good exercise though. We rented a car and there was free parking about 5 minutes away which was convenient. Could not access WiFi from the hotel but Marguerida said there was a network. Street noise is loud but that is typical....ask for a garden view. If you can handle the eclectic and often wacky proprietor with her weird habits, then have a great time like we did. Just follow the signs!

We had 2 rooms in the Casa Vitoriana. Both rooms were quiet, spacious and sunny. Rooms are decororated with elegant and charming furniture, pictures, statues, etc. Both rooms had private bathrooms, but one was across the hall from the room and only one was en-suite. The location is very close to the Jardim Antonio Borges and an easy walk to restaurants and shopping. There is also free parking behind the house. We had to leave early in the morning for a 7am flight and Margarida surprised us with breakfast breads, pastry, and cereal in the dining area. We had a wonderful stay.

We stayed here for Christmas 2009 and whilst the weather was a big disappointment, Casa Vitoriana certainly was not. We loved our light and airy apartment, Framboesa, and felt hidden away in our own little world in the delightful walled garden. It was a real treat to pick a banana off the tree every morning for breakfast and to meet the friendly cats who came visiting - when it wasn't raining! Margarida, the owner, is very kind and helpful and even popped round on Christmas Eve with a basket of fruit for us. Due to the appalling weather we spent more time than anticipated in the apartment just chilling out but this did not spoil our enjoyment at all and we even managed to cook Christmas dinner there! It must be absolutely gorgeous in the summer and we would certainly consider going back another time.

Self catering accommodations, I did not rent a car, but travelled almost every day on public buses. Saw the whole island that way. Also whale watching. Felt very safe. The hotel is a little difficult to find the first time, but it has a good location. Very clean. Not a "typical" hotel, but a very pleasant stay.

Our stay at Cassa Vitoriana was a very enjoyable one. The house was very cozy and very clean. Close to everything in downtown Ponta Delgada. Margarida was very gracious and also very informative. Had a great time!
