“A Small Wonder”
Reviewed 9 April 2014

We discovered this museum almost by accident while walking in Ponta Delgada. The fortress on the waterfront is pretty awesome, and for a very small admission, you can look through displays of equipment, uniforms, and explanatory panels covering military history in the Azores and Portugal. It wasn't overwhelming, but glad we visited it.

“Much bigger and better than expected-good for rainy day”
Reviewed 25 March 2014

We had some time to kill so decided to go in the Fort and see the museum, although we had heard it was not that great. Actually, it was a pretty extensive museum spread out throughout the fort and a good amount had English as well as Portuguese explanations. Some things (like weapons) I don't think require translation, so if they did not have an English translation I didn't consider it a problem. You can also climb steps to be on the top of the fort, which gives nice views of the town and water. Given the iffy weather on the island keep this in mind for a rainy day activity.

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed 23 March 2014

Take the self-guided tour of several rooms of military equipment from various ages. There is little information in English but you will get the gist. For 3 euros it is worth the stroll and includes access to the top of the fort and views from the battlements.

“Worth the entrance fee”
Reviewed 29 October 2013

Seniors get access for one Euro. and it is worth it to see some old vehicles, weapons and military accessories. You also get to go up on the walls with a view over the fishing boats.

“Very little information in English”
Reviewed 14 October 2013

Fortunately for "seniors" this only cost 1euro as there wasn't a lot to see which was of interest to me. Lots of display cases with various types of gun which of course may be of great interest to some visitors. There were a few labels in English but most were only in Portuguese. The best thing there for me was the view from the walls. It seemed to run by serving soldiers.
