VIP Executive Azores Hotel
Ranked #13 of 23 Hotels in Ponta Delgada
Reviewed 22 September 2013

Located in the outscirts of Ponta Delgada this hotel is ideally for travellers wanting to see the island with a rental car. It's only a short distance to the high-way with access to the rest of the island, and about 20 mins of walking to the Avenida. Parking is available in the street behind the hotel, free of charge.
We stayed in a good sized and clean double room, with a balcony facing a back street with a partial ocean view. The beds were hard and so were the pillows - just the way we like it! The bathroom was in good standard with a bath tub and big mirror.
The breakfast buffet was a bit noisy, but the staff kept it nice and clean. Wi-fi was very poor, allmost non-existent.

The hotel is about 15 mins walk from the main part of town (no big deal in itself, as at least you get to see the pleasant back streets). The rooms are very small, but clean, and the bathroom is large enough for use. The staff are exceedingly nice, friendly and helpful. The food is not good - very bland, dry, tinned, and gave my family stomach-ache. The hotel is nice enough to use for sleeping quarters, but I would avoid eating there - most guests seemed to do after a couple of days. Preferably eat out, or better go self-catering a rent a holiday home - there are many cheap places to but food to prepare yourself if you look around the main town.

Room Tip: Choose a room on floor seven - is the highest basic rooms and offers good views of the bay if you as...

Hotel was clean, and the staff was very nice, especially on the lobby bar. Breakfast was ok, however selection was not that large as it usually is on four star hotels.

WiFi was disaster, didnt work well even one day during my week at hotel.

But, in general, hotel was ok compared to the price i pay.

The drinks on the nightclub located on basement was much cheaper than drinks on lobby bar.

Hotel also shake gently during earthquake, that was quite experience as well...

Room Tip: Lower floors may be disturbed by the music of night club located on basement.

Great facilities, great decoration.
Large rooms with 4 star ammenities.
Breakfast very good and setup always ready and clean.
Could improve service and food offer speccially in the bar with light and cheaper snacks.

The location is not 1st line in the city but the views are great and theres a good car park and leisure facilities too.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the upper floors away from the noise.

I was booked into the hotel by the airline SATA because of a cancelled flight. My first impression was of the reception area which is impressive, and the staff efficient, The room is of an adequate standard. But the dining room is a disaster area. We were full board, and at lunch, with few guests, there was only one main course, which was just about accceptable, since the majority would be half-board: water and fruit juice were part of the buffet. The evening meal was like something out of Fawlty Towers. There were few staff, all busy clearing tables. No-one checked my room number; no-one asked if I would like a drink; there was no water on offer; there was only one main course. Dinner is served from 7-10pm; I went down at 8pm, to find the staff already laying for breakfast, though people were still arriving for dinner, and so had to sit down at tables prepared for breakfast. At one table near me, a man hung his jacket on the back of his chair, served himself with soup, and then went to get his main course. While away from his table, the waitress came and stripped his table completely, and when he returned he found a bare table with his jacket still on the chair! Had I not seen it, I would not have believed it possible.

I was vaguely amused at all this since I was not paying. Had I been, I would have been quite angry. Four stars? Perhaps, but badly let down by the diningroom.

Definitely not a 4-star hotel. Do not be fooled by the name or number of the stars this hotel has.
.
Location: at the very busy roundabout. At least 20 minuts long walk to the beach. Industrial area.
Close to the medium size supermarket. A lot of noise all around.
.
Internet: for fee. 1 PS at the ground floor for free internet access.
.
Rooms: Definitely not a 4-star hotel rooms. Maybe something between 2 and 3 stars,
.
Breakfast: Exactly the same as the other 2 and 3 star hotels in Ponta Delgada. OK.
.
Look at my photos.

Stayed here for the second time a week at a time
+ friendly staff
+ excellent breakfast
+ clean rooms with a seaview
+ downstairs pool/saunas/jacuzzi free for hotel customers
+ lots of free parking space right next to the hotel
+ a large shop few hundred meters away
+ lovely and reasonably priced room service

- take some earplugs with you, traffic noise from the adjacent traffic circle can get overwhelming
- on the second visit, our tub leaked through the wall into our room
- if you don't like walking or don't drive, it's far from the centre

All in all, I would recommend, had some of my best vacations staying at this hotel!
